Chapter 29

S.S. BO BRADY
SHAWN-D: You do know that you don't have to ask our permission to date Claire, right?
CHASE: Oh, I know. It may seem old fashioned, but I wanted to show you that I respect you guys. And I respect Claire.
BELLE: We know you do. We also know that she cares very deeply about you.
SHAWN-D: And we do appreciate the gesture. So, yeah. Of course you can date Claire.
CHASE: Awesome! Thanks!
BELLE: Now, go on. You two are young. You should be out having fun. Go explore the ship.
CHASE: Okay. Thanks again.
Chase wheeled himself out of the room.
BELLE: That was cute.
SHAWN-D: It was. Chase is a good kid.
BELLE: Well, Aiden is a good man, so Chase learned from him well.
SHAWN-D: He really is.
BELLE: So, now that we're unpacked, what do you want to do?
SHAWN-D: Oh, I don't know.
Shawn-D scooped Belle into his arms. She yelped slightly with excitement.
BELLE: Mr. Brady, I like the way you think.
Belle and Shawn-D kissed.
Steve found Joey walking down one of the hallways.
STEVE: Joe, good to see you.
JOEY: Hi, dad.
STEVE: Hey, why don't you and me have a little talk? Okay?
JOEY: Sure.
Steve started walking alongside Joey.
JOEY: So, what did you want to talk about?
STEVE: Oh, you know, what you've been up to the last couple of months while I've been gone.
JOEY: Well, there's not much to tell. You already know about the explosion. I've just been hanging out with friends, really.
Steve nodded.
STEVE: Friends like Jade?
JOEY: No. Jade isn't my friend. Not anymore. Not after what she did.
STEVE: What do you mean? What did she do?
JOEY: Look, I don't wanna go into detail about it, because it gets really nasty, but she played a really cruel prank on Claire at this year's Last Blast Dance.
STEVE: I see.
JOEY: Yeah. I mean, I was dating her, but after I found out what she did, I didn't want anything to do with her.
STEVE: All right. So, then tell me, is what she told me and your mother a little bit ago true?
JOEY: I don't know. What did she tell you?
STEVE: Well, for one, that she's pregnant.
JOEY: Yeah, that's what she told me, too.
STEVE: And she seems to be of the idea that you are her baby's father. Did you know that?
JOEY: Look, dad, whatever she said, it's not true. There's no way that I'm her baby's father!
STEVE: You sure?
JOEY: Totally!
STEVE: Good. 'Cause this is a pretty serious accusation, Joe. Why would she say something like that?
JOEY: She's crazy! Seriously, she was so pissed when I broke things off with her. But, honestly, dad, I cannot be her baby's father. I mean, okay, yeah, we slept together. Once. But, that was it. And it was months ago! She'd be way farther along if it was from that.
STEVE: All right. So, tell me more about this Jade.

I'm thinking Joey is dum dum who doesn't understand how the birds and the bees work.

It's nice to hear Shawn and Belle call Aiden and Chase good people!

I'm glad Joey is smart enough to realize he's not likely to be the father of Jade's baby.

Claire and Chase are a cute couple. So are Shawn and Belle. It's so refreshing to hear them be positive about Aiden.

How far along is Jade anyway? I may have missed that. Either way, I'm glad that Joey isn't fully buying into her story.

Chapter 30

S.S. BO BRADY
Kayla had just finished her examination of Jade.
JADE: So, what did you find?
KAYLA: Well, you're three months along. The baby is fine, but you should still be on a pre-natal. I'll prescribe one for you.
JADE: And what about the father?
Kayla looked at Jade.
JADE: Come on, I'm not stupid. I know you don't trust me. I know you had a paternity test done. So, go on. Was I right?
KAYLA: I didn't get those results yet. When I do, I'll let you know.
Kayla handed Jade a bottle of medication.
KAYLA: This is your pre-natal. Take it once a day with food.
She handed her another bottle.
KAYLA: And this should help with the nausea. Like I said, I'll let you know when I get the results of the paternity test back.
JADE: Okay. Thanks, Dr. Brady.
Jade walked away. Meanwhile, Joey had finished telling Steve everything about Jade.
STEVE: Wow. Now, that is intense. I mean, I've met some crazy women, but never one that young.
JOEY: Yeah. So, that's the whole story. At least now, you can see why I don't want her in my life.
STEVE: Definitely. And I'm glad that you were honest with me.
JOEY: Me too. I'm glad you're back, dad.
STEVE: Me too, son. Me too.
Steve gave Joey a hug. The two continued walking. Along the way, they spotted J.J.
J.J.: Hey, guys.
STEVE: Well, if it isn't Happy Jack, Billy Jack Patrick Johnson-Deveraux Junior. Come here, dude!
Steve and J.J. hugged.
J.J.: Good to see you, Uncle Steve! Hey, Joey.
STEVE: You too, dude.
JOEY: Hey.
STEVE: So, what's goin' on?
J.J.: Well, I was just talking to Alexander. He says he's throwing a party for everyone tonight in the ballroom.
STEVE: Sounds like it's just what this place needs.
J.J.: So, you're coming, right?
STEVE: Try and find someone who could stop me.
J.J. and Steve high fived.
J.J.: All right! What about you, Joey?
JOEY: I don't know. I'm not really into getting all dressed up.
J.J.: It's not that kinda party, dude. Wear whatever you want. Besides, it's gonna be a lot of fun. You should come.
JOEY: Yeah, okay. I will.
J.J.: Awesome!
Joey and J.J. high fived.
JOEY: Hey, uh, you think I could talk to you for a minute?
J.J.: Sure.
STEVE: I'm gonna go find Alexander and see how progress is going. Catch you later, dudes.
JOEY: Bye, dad.
J.J.: Bye, Uncle Steve.
Steve walked away.
J.J.: So, what's up?
JOEY: I'm a bit worried about Jade. Well, not Jade so much, but...I'm kinda worried that that baby she's carrying is mine.

J.J.: You're worried that it might be your baby?
JOEY: Kind of.
J.J.: Do you have any reason to believe that it is your baby?
JOEY: I don't know, man. I mean, I guess it's not completely impossible. Yeah, we did sleep together, once. And yeah, I know, once is enough. But, it's way too far back to have been the cause of Jade's pregnancy. It was before the Last Blast.
J.J.: Okay. How far along is Jade, anyway?
JOEY: She didn't say.
J.J.: I don't know, dude. This kinda thing hasn't happened to me before. But, if it were me, I'd want to make sure that there's no way that it could be me.
JOEY: And it isn't. Like I said, it was too long ago. Jade would have to be like, four or five months along by now for it to be me.
J.J.: Well, no matter what happens, I'm here for you. And, I hope that it turns out well for you.
JOEY: Thanks, dude.
J.J. and Joey shook hands.
J.J.: I gotta go check on a few more people. Uncle Steve's planning something for the party tonight, and he wants some people involved. So, I'll catch you later.
JOEY: Sounds good.
J.J. walked away.
JOEY (thinking): I sure hope I'm right about this.
Kayla was in the medical bay, looking over a medical chart. Addie walked in.
ADDIE: I have the results of that paternity test.
KAYLA: Great. Thank you.
Addie handed Kayla an envelope. She opened it and looked over the paper within. Kayla sighed with relief.
ADDIE: Good news?
KAYLA: Definitely!
ADDIE: Good. I'm glad to hear it.
Addie walked way.
KAYLA: Thank goodness. I knew that it couldn't be Joey.
Meanwhile, Claire was walking around the decks of the ship, pushing Chase in his wheelchair.
CLAIRE: So, they actually said yes?
CHASE: Yeah. I guess they like me.
CLAIRE: Of course they like you! What's not to like?
Claire hugged Chase.
CLAIRE: I'm really glad you're okay.
CHASE: Trust me, I'm fine. And, once we get home, I'm gonna start getting even better. My dad signed me up for physical therapy.
CLAIRE: That's great!
CHASE: Yeah. Wow!
CLAIRE: What?
Chase pointed out to the sea.
CHASE: Look at that.
Claire looked. Chase was pointing at a mountain in the distance.
CLAIRE: Whoa. That's beautiful!
CHASE: It really is.
Claire and Chase continued looking out at the mountain as the ship cruised by.
CHASE: So, you excited for the party tonight?
CLAIRE: Definitely! It's gonna be fun!

So glad that Kayla got confirmation! But now I'm wondering who the daddy is.

I knew it! *Whew* now who IS the father? And what will Steve and Kayla do with this info?

Chase and Claire are such a sweet couple.

Chapter 32

S.S. BO BRADY
Tonight was the night. The night of the big party that Alexander was throwing. Everyone had gathered into a ballroom on the ship. Alexander stood on a stage at one end of the room. He grabbed a microphone.
ALEXANDER: Good evening, everybody. Hope you're all enjoying your voyage home so far. Now, I know it's been a difficult few months. But, I promise you, I will get you all home safely. But tonight, we're gonna have some fun. We all need a bit of that, don't we? So, I know that we have some talented people among this group, and I've asked for their hand with something. So, if they could come up please.
A curtain behind Alexander was raised. Doug, Claire, J.J., Steve, Brady, Theresa and Justin were on the stage. Claire sat at the piano. J.J. had his guitar in hand. Steve had his harmonica. All of them had microphones.
ALEXANDER: You know, there's a lot of darkness in this world. A lot of sadness. And I think that we can all agree that we could all use a little bit more love. So, with that in mind, I give you the Salem Singers. Take it away, ladies and gentlemen.

There was a lot of clapping from the audience.
ALEXANDER: Thank you. Now, I know we've lost a lot of people this year. But, one of the hardest ones came only about two or three weeks ago. Gene Wilder was, personally, one of my favorite actors. I loved him in The Producers and Young Frankenstein. But, my all-time favorite movie of his was Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. So, if you will permit us, my friends and I would like to do another number for you fine people.

There was more claps and cheering. The eight walked off the stage to join the party. Later that night, Alexander slipped away from the party for a few minutes. He went into the area where he controlled the ship. He looked over some of the computers, a look of concern on his face. Then, he looked up.
ALEXANDER: Oh S***.
