Chapter 311
SALEM UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL
The door to Victor's room opened, causing Victor to wake up from his dream.
VICTOR: The hell are you doing here?
Tony sat down in a chair near the bed. He set down a potted plant on the table.
TONY: Just thought I'd stop by a visit for a moment. These are from Anna, by the way.
Victor nodded.
TONY: So, how are you?
VICTOR: Well, despite my brother's attempt, I'm not dead yet.
TONY: That is good news.
VICTOR: What are you really doing here, DiMera?
TONY: Honestly, I wanted to check on you. Your son may be DiMera Enterprises' biggest competition, but after what happened the other night, I wanted to check on how things were going.
VICTOR: I see. Well, of the people at that dinner the other night, you and I are the only ones who have sense. Though, I must admit, Philip is learning.
TONY: As is Chad.
VICTOR: I don't suppose there's any news on Titus.
Tony shook his head.
TONY: None, I'm afraid. He, André and the waitress went missing as soon as you got shot.
VICTOR: That figures.
The door opened again and Philip walked in.
VICTOR: Philip.
PHILIP: Dad...Tony, or at least, I hope.
TONY: Yes, it's me. Good afternoon, Philip.
PHILIP: So, listen, about that thing-
Tony put his hand up.
TONY: It's forgotten.
Philip nodded.
TONY: I just came to check up on Victor. We may be business rivals, but I admire him as a businessman.
PHILIP: Good to know.
TONY: I shall leave you two to your business. Get well, Victor.
Victor nodded.
TONY: Philip.
PHILIP: Tony.
Tony walked out of the room.
PHILIP: You sure that was the real Tony?
VICTOR: Would André DiMera have any reason to visit?
PHILIP: No, but neither would Tony.
VICTOR: Perhaps. But even if he was pretending to be Tony, André wouldn't be that polite. He may be good at pretending, but not that good. Now, putting my unexpected visitor aside, how are things at Titan this morning?
PHILIP: Not bad. Had a meeting with some of the shareholders. Has Dr. Horton come in yet?
VICTOR: No, not yet. His nurse tells me that he won't be in until this afternoon. I hope he comes early. I don't wish to stay in this hospital a second longer than I have to.
ALAMAIN MANSION
That afternoon, Nicholas got home from work.
CARLY: Hello, Nicky. How was work?
NICHOLAS: Fine. Same as always. How was the hospital?
CARLY: Good. Kayla says it's likely that I'll get my job back.
NICHOLAS: That's nice.
CARLY: Well, at the very least, it'll give me a better chance to help Vivian, as well as anyone else who may need medical attention.
Nicholas nodded.
CARLY: Is Beatrix home yet?
NICHOLAS: No, she has swimming practice today. I'm picking her up in an hour.
CARLY: Well, that's good. She seems to enjoy swimming.
NICHOLAS: She does, yes. She's been taking lessons since she was a little girl, according to her mother.
There was a long silence. Carly cleared her throat.
CARLY: So, I've been meaning to ask you something.
Nicholas looked up.
NICHOLAS: Yes.
CARLY: Where's Melanie?
