Chapter 70a
“I guess I was just imagining it but I could have sworn it said ….”
She giggled. “P and C forever?”
“Yes! Did you see it too?” Chloe merely smiled at Philip. “You did that??”
“Too corny?” she asked.
“Not to me, it’s not,” Philip said.
“Well, you told me a few months ago that you wanted some big spectacle to prove that I’m serious about making our relationship work. Remember?” When Philip nodded, she added, “I think you mentioned something about pyrotechnics.”
“That’s right, I did,” he remembered.
“Well?” Chloe waited for a reaction. “Did you like it?”
Philip nodded as tears formed in his eyes. His voice cracked when he said, “Yeah. I liked it. Thank you.”
Chloe was moved by Philip’s reaction and she grew teary-eyed as well. Touching his face, she told him, “You don’t need to thank me, Philip. In fact, it’s just the beginning. I’ll do anything to show you how much I love you.”
A lump formed in Philip’s throat. There was so much he wanted to say at this moment, but he found himself unable to form any words. So he kissed her instead and let his heart speak to hers through the kiss. Leaning away slightly, he touched her cheek and wiped away a tear with his thumb.
“I have a confession to make,” she told him.
“Um. Okay,” he said with a hint of trepidation in his voice.
“That wasn’t a light you saw in Parker’s room.”
Philip briefly glanced over his shoulder in the direction of the condo. “It wasn’t?”
Chloe touched his face to turn his attention back toward her. “Parker isn’t home. He’s staying over at Lucinda’s tonight.” Philip’s eyes widened. “You do realize what tonight is, don’t you?”
Philip’s eyes wandered to the left as he considered Chloe’s question. “Yeah, I’ve been exing the days off on my calendar. Three months,” he said quietly.
“Right. It’s been three months since we started this journey. You know what that means, right?”
Philip looked downward through the glass-bottom gondola, then he looked back at Chloe with a twinkle in his eye. “This would give new meaning to the mile high club.”

Chapter 70b
“You do realize what tonight is, don’t you?”
Philip’s eyes wandered to the left as he considered Chloe’s question. “Yeah, I’ve been exing the days off on my calendar. Three months,” he said quietly.
“Right. It’s been three months since we started this journey. You know what that means, right?”
Philip looked downward through the glass-bottom gondola, then he looked back at Chloe with a twinkle in his eye. “This would give new meaning to the mile high club.”
Chloe let out a laugh. “We waited three months. I think we can wait another half hour.”
“Yeah, but you like sex in confined spaces, like elevators.”
Chloe’s eyes widened, but she remained calm. She didn’t want to spoil the moment. Instead she smiled at him. “This isn’t exactly private, Philip. It’s glass enclosed and we’re on our way down to the ground floor. Not sure about you, but I don’t want to become the lead story on Entertainment Tonight. Can you see it? ‘Media Mogul and Ex-Wife Reconcile in Navy Pier Ferris Wheel.’ We’d send poor Edith into crisis mode.” She took his hand and looked at it, running her thumb over his bare ring finger. “Do you think we’re ready for this?”
“Hell yes,” he answered instantly.
Chloe looked at his face and smiled. “No, silly. I don’t mean are we ready for sex. I mean are we ready for everything else?”
Philip took a deep breath. “You tell me.”
“Yes, Philip. Without a doubt.” She looked directly into his eyes, so he could see she meant what she was saying. “Any doubts I had, they’re completely gone. I know you’re committed to me, and to our family, and I know you’d never do anything to spoil what we have.”
He nodded slowly. “Not in a million years. But … how about you?”
“Never. Never again. I couldn’t possibly be more committed to you than I am. You do believe me, right?”
“Hmmm. I might need convincing,” he winked.
Chloe rolled her eyes playfully. “Okay, soldier. What do I have to do?”
Hovering close to her lips, he looked deeply into her eyes and stroked her hair. “It’s easy. Just stick with me … for the next 60 or 70 years.”
“I’ll have to check my schedule,” Chloe laughed, pretending to hold up an imaginary planner. “Well, how about that? Looks like I’m all yours for the next century or two.” Her expression grew serious as she looked back at Philip. “I’m yours for as long as you want me.”

What a lovely ending to the story! I'm sad it's over but it was very satisfying. And I was glad Chloe didn't want to have sex in a Ferris wheel car on the way down. LOL What's next Kpatch? |
