Chapter 67a
A few weeks later, Philip and Chloe had just finished having dinner at a favorite Thai restaurant. It was nearly ten o’clock and Chloe pulled Philip by the hand down the well-lit streets of Chicago toward the pier.
Half resisting, like a dog on a leash, Philip laughed. “You still haven’t told me where we’re going, or why we’re going wherever we’re going so fast.”
“After-dinner exercise,” she joked.
“I kind of had a different kind of exercise in mind,” Philip quipped.
“Later, soldier,” she said, without turning around. “Come on, we’ll be late.”
Philip scowled. “Late?? We have an appointment??”
“Not exactly an appointment,” she responded. “More like a schedule.”
Philip still didn’t get it, but he allowed Chloe to lead him by the hand because he’d follow her pretty much anywhere. The knot that had lived in his stomach for months was now gone — it dissolved the minute she said she trusted him. No, it didn’t erase all the pain of the past year, but Philip didn’t want to hang on to the anger. He was fully focused on the present and the future.
At last, they reached the front gate of the pier and walked through it. “Okay, at least now I know where we’re going,” Philip commented. “The Navy Pier.”
Chloe stopped pulling Philip. Instead, she linked her arm in his. “Right, but you still don’t know what we’re doing here.”
“So enlighten me,” he asked, rubbing her hand.
Chloe stopped walking and pointed upward. “There. That’s where we’re going.”
Philip’s eyes followed Chloe’s hand to see what she was pointing at. “Really?”

It's good to see Philip (and apparently Chloe) continuing to feel confident in their relationship!

I'm glad Philip is letting go of the last and trusts Chloe now.
So what is she pointing at? Can't wait to find out!

There are so many places they could be going at Navy Pier. Wonder what it is? Great chapter, Kpatch!

I enjoyed the sweet scene during Parker's birthday lunch.
It's good seeing Chloe and Philip happy and enjoying a date night.
I've been to Navy Pier so I have an idea of what Chloe is planning.

Chapter 67b
Chloe stopped walking and pointed upward. “There. That’s where we’re going.”
Philip’s eyes followed Chloe’s hand to see what she was pointing at. “Really? The Ferris wheel?”
“Uh huh.” Chloe smiled broadly looking at the impressive structure. “The brochure said the view of Chicago at night is astounding.” She turned to face him. “And we’ve never been to the Navy Pier on a date, so I thought.…”
Philip smiled at her. “It’s perfect, Chloe. Come on,” he said, now pulling her by the hand.
As they got closer, Chloe slowed down and grew hesitant. She gripped Philip’s arm. “Wait. I’m not so sure this is such a good idea. I’ve … I’ve never been on a ferris wheel before.”
Looking at her quizzically, he stated, “Yes you were. Almost 16 years ago. Summer of 2000, the whole gang went to the Salem County Fair.”
Her lips parted slightly. “Oh right. I forgot. That was a baby carnival compared to this. This Ferris Wheel looks a lot taller.”
“That’s because it is. It’s like a hundred and fifty feet high.”
“How do you know all that?”
Pointing, he said, “I’m reading the sign.”
“Oh.” Chloe looked at the sign next to the ticket booth. It confirmed Philip’s facts and figures. Her eyes drifted from the sign to the Ferris Wheel and her head tilted backwards as she looked upward. “Oh god.”
“Come on. It’ll be fun.” Philip paid for the tickets at the booth, then he grasped Chloe’s hand. He looked over and could see she was frightened. “Don’t worry, sweetheart. It’s perfectly safe,” he said with a reassuring squeeze of her hand. “This was a great idea. You know I’ve been wanting to do this for ages.”
“I know you have. I think you mentioned it once or twice or ten times.”
They were next in line and when the ferris wheel gondola came to a stop, the attendant held the door.
Chloe pulled her hand out of Philip’s. “I’m not sure I can do this.”
“Sure you can,” Philip reassured her. “You’ve been through childbirth. This is nothing.” He grabbed her hand and pulled her into the Ferris Wheel gondola and onto the bench where they sat on the same side.
The attendant closed the door and the gondola began to move upward in a gentle swinging motion. “We’re moving already?”
“This is great,” Philip said as he looked out the glass-enclosed gondola.
Chloe didn’t want to look. Heights and tight, enclosed spaces brought her phobias to the surface. Trying to distract herself, she asked Philip, “What do you know about childbirth anyway?”

Love this chapter! It's sweet that Chloe planned something fun for Philip, in spite of her nervousness about heights.
