This story is a sequel to two of my previous stories:

The Dark Rider - In which Mia returns to Salem to try and win the affections of both Will and Chad. When neither works out, she considers leaving, but is stopped by Nicole, who has a proposition for her.

Partners in Crime - In which Nicole trains Mia in the art of scheming, and it is revealed that Mia is Nicole's long lost daughter. The two bond during a trip to Florida, but flee when Nicole gets news of one of her father's old henchmen looking for her. She gets them tickets to go to Australia...

Chapter 1

A few hours earlier...

AJRPLANE
Nicole and Mia sat in an airplane on their way to Australia. So far, they'd been in flight for 17 hours. The had felt the plane starting to make its trip back to the ground. There was a ping and a voice came over the intercom.
PILOT (over intercom): G'day, ladies and gentlemen, this is your pilot speaking. Just wanted to let you know that we're making our final descent, and should be arriving at Melbourne's Tullamarine International Airport in the next ten minutes or so. Local time is 3:30 in the afternoon. Currently 23 degrees and beautiful out there. We have about two weeks of summer left. If you're making your return to Melbourne, then welcome home, mate. If this is your first trip, then welcome to Australia, and thank you for choosing Qantas airlines. We hope to see you again.
MIA: 23? Man, I should have brought my winter coat!
NICOLE: 23 Celsius. Australia, like most places in the world, uses the metric system.
MIA: And what did he mean it's late summer? It's winter.
NICOLE: Not here, it isn't. Being on the opposite side of the world, Australia has opposite seasons. It's a completely different rotation of seasons altogether.
EVERYONE ON PLANE (except Nicole): It's a completely different rotation of seasons.
Nicole and Mia rolled their eyes.
NICOLE: Anyway, this should be fun.

TULLMARINE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (MELBOURNE, VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA)
As the plane was a superjet, it took quite a while for everyone to get off and get their bags. Then, they had to go through customs. Nicole and Mia went up together. An officer was looking over a sheet of paper that they had asked to fill out on the plane.
OFFICER: So, you two are from America?
NICOLE: That's right.
OFFICER: You hear on vacation, or business?
NICOLE: Vacation.
OFFICER: Well, all the papers check out.
The customs officer stamped Nicole's and Mia's passports.
OFFICER: Welcome to Australia.
MIA: Thanks.
NICOLE: Thank you.

Now

CAR
Nicole and Mia were now in a car. It had taken a few minutes for Nicole to get used to driving on the other side of the road, but now she was driving as usual.
MIA: So, who was it?
NICOLE: What do you mean?
MIA: I thought the whole reason we came to Australia was to see Quinn. But, you say that he's in some other country. So, who called and told you that one of your dad's men was coming?
NICOLE: Brandon, my brother.
MIA: You have a brother?
NICOLE: A half-brother. He lives in Florida. Had our time there not been cut so short, I would have taken you to meet them.
MIA: That's cool. So, do I have any brothers or sisters that I should know about? Any other relatives?
NICOLE: No, not really. You almost had a sister, but that didn't happen. And I can't think of any other relatives. Both my parents are dead. So, it's just Taylor and Brandon. Though, with the amount of sleeping around Quinn did, you may well have a few brothers or sisters on his side.
MIA: Oh.

RENDEZVOUS HOTEL
Finally, they stopped at a hotel. The hotel they picked, the Rendezvous Hotel Melbourne, was excellent. The two went up to their room and unpacked their things. Nicole handed Mia an envelope.
NICOLE: It's full of money. Use it wisely.
Mia opened the envelope. Unlike American money, Australian money is very colorful. The 50s were yellow, 20s red, 10s blue, and 5s purple.
MIA: Whoa! But, where's the 1s?
NICOLE: The lady at the cash exchange told me that they only have one dollar coins. Same with two dollars.
MIA: Cool.
NICOLE: Come on. Let's go get something to eat.

I'm really excited to see what they get up to down under. Yay for Nicole and Mia's relationship. I was wondering, given that conversation, if it will turn out Nicole's other daughter is alive.

Chapter 2

CAR
It took most of the next day for them to catch up on sleep, as Australia is more than 12 hours ahead of America; but eventually, Nicole and Mia got up. Most of the first day was spent seeing the sights. They looked around St. Patrick's Cathedral, as well as going to a nearby conservatory. They were now driving along through the suburbs.
MIA: So, where are we?
NICOLE: It's still technically Melbourne, but it's unincorporated Melbourne. The suburbs. To be honest, I'm not really sure.
MIA: What happened to the map?
NICOLE: That's the one thing I forgot to pack. I packed up everything else this morning except the map.
MIA: Well, hopefully, we'll find something soon enough.
As it happens, they did. They came upon one of Melbourne's larger suburbs. They stopped at a little family owned restaurant.

HAROLD'S STORE
Nicole and Mia walked in and up to the cash register. They looked over the menu for a moment, and a young woman wearing a name tag that said Paige stepped up behind the counter.
PAIGE: Hiya. How ya goin'?
MIA: We're good.
NICOLE: Pretty good. Um, could you please tell us where we are.
PAIGE: Well, at the moment, you're Harold's. Are you two from America?
NICOLE: Yeah, how'd you guess?
PAIGE: The accent gives it away.
MIA: Accent? We don't have accents, you do.
PAIGE: Sorry, love, maybe in the States, I would. But, out here, you're the ones with accents.
MIA: Got it.
PAIGE: So, what can I get for you?
NICOLE: I'll just have a burger and Coke.
MIA: Same, but I'll have Sprite.
PAIGE: Either of you want chips with that?
MIA: Sure.
NICOLE: Sounds good.
Paige typed in the orders.
PAIGE: Right, two burgers and chips, one Coke and one Sprite. That'll be $18.69.
Nicole handed Paige a $20 and got her change. She and Mia sat down and, in a short amount of time, got their food.
NICOLE: Well, this place is nice.
MIA: Yeah. But, I thought we were getting chips.
Mia picked up a fry.
MIA: These are fries.
NICOLE: They're also chips. What we know as fries back home are called chips here. What we know as chips back home are called crisps.
MIA: Interesting.
The two finished eating. Before leaving, Nicole walked back up to the counter.
NICOLE: Excuse me? Paige, right?
PAIGE: That's me. What can I do for you?
NICOLE: My daughter and I are new to the area. Do you know of anywhere nearby we can stay for the night?
PAIGE: Well, there's Lassiter's, right down the street.
NICOLE: Okay, thanks. What town is this, anyway? I must have missed the sign on my way in.
PAIGE: Erinsborough. Enjoy your time.
NICOLE: Great. Thanks. Have a nice day.
PAIGE: You too.

LASSITER'S
It was a short drive from Harold's to the Lassiter's Complex. Nicole and Mia walked into the reception area. Terese was standing behind the desk.
TERESE: Hullo. Welcome Lassiter's. I'm Terese Willis. How can I help you?
NICOLE: Nicole Walker. My daughter and I would like a room, please?
TERESE: No problem. What floor would you like?
NICOLE: Any floor's fine. No preference.
TERESE: How long will you be staying?
NICOLE: Just a few days.
Then, a tall intense looking man, Paul Robinson, entered.
PAUL: Terese, we have got to go over this schedule for the festival. The time for my speech is far too short!
TERESE: Paul, I'm with a customer right now. Anyway, I'm not in control of the festival anymore. You gave that job to Naomi. Take it up with her.
Paul stopped when he saw Nicole.
PAUL: Oh good lord no. Nicole.

Hmm...wonder how Nicole knows Paul.

Thanks for the photos of some of the supporting cast. It helped me not confuse this Paige with the one in Salem.
