Chapter 16

WOMEN'S PRISON
Samantha and Marlena are in the visiting room.
SAMANTHA: So, Marnie, how can I help you this time?
MARLENA: Actually, I've come to help you out.
SAMANTHA: How so?
MARLENA: I've finally figured out the Pattern.
SAMANTHA: Really? What is the Pattern?
MARLENA: Well, it's not so much what it is, but who it is. Babies. Babies are the pattern. Babies switched at birth or switched paternity tests. Think about it: Bo and Hope's son, Zack and Lexie and Abe's son, Theo. They were switched at birth. Who did that? Stefano. Well, technically, Lexie. But, she was acting on Stefano's orders. Sami's son, Johnny. E.J. switched the paternity test to keep Sami with him. In reality, Johnny is Lucas' son. Parker Jonas. He really is Daniel's son. Stefano switched the paternity to make it look like he was Philip's son. Carly switched it back to the truth. Green with jealousy that Victor was in love with Maggie, Caroline re-switched the tests to make it look like Philip was the baby's father. And then, Chloe re-switched the tests to show that Daniel was the father. That went right along with Stefano's plan, because it made Chloe look like a liar.
SAMANTHA: So, this Pattern that E.J. referred to when I killed him...was all about babies?
MARLENA: Yes. Sam, you have no idea how many people Stefano has tortured. He and the rest of the DiMera family have been switching paternity tests since they first came to Salem.
SAMANTHA: I see. Well, I'm glad we were able to figure that much out.

THE LOFT
Shawn-D is cooking lunch. Jan walks in.
SHAWN-D: Hey.
JAN: Hey.
Shawn-D and Jan kiss.
SHAWN-D: How was the doctor.
JAN: Fine. A little creepy, but fine.
SHAWN-D: What do you mean “creepy”?
JAN: I mean creepy. When he first walked in, he tried to flirt with me. He even told me to undress so he could do a full body check.
SHAWN-D: Was he in his early/mid 40s? A bit tan. Kind of stupid look on his face?
JAN: Yep, that's him.
SHAWN-D: Oh, that's Daniel Jonas. He's Melanie's father. He's also one of the creepiest doctors you'll ever meet. He's married to Carly Manning, Melanie's mother. But, that doesn't stop him from flirting with every single woman in Salem. Especially if they're his patients. His newspaper ads even say "expect to be groped". Every single woman he's ever fallen in love with has started out as a patient of his.
JAN: Gotcha.
SHAWN-D: So, what did he say?
JAN: That I'm the most beautiful woman he's ever seen.
SHAWN-D: Well, he's got that part right. Anyway, what did he say about your health?
JAN: Well, I wanted to wait to tell you until dinner. But, I can't wait anymore.
SHAWN-D: Great. So, what did he say?
JAN: I'm pregnant.

I knew it. Don't work OBS without learning a few things. Boy Jan is getting Shawn deeper and deeper into her trap. Can't wait to see Bo and Hope's reaction to this news. I am getting the feeling that somehow Jan's baby is going to be switched. Thanks for the chapter Andre. Looking forward to tomorrow's chapter.

Thanks for the chapter. Love how you are tying in the Pattern from the previous story. I am betting that Claire's paternity tests were switched too and Philip is really her father and .... I'll say no more about what I'm expecting, only this is going to be good!

Chapter 17

THE LOFT
SHAWN-D: You...what?
JAN: I'm pregnant.
SHAWN-D: Jan, that's great!
Jan and Shawn-D hugged.
JAN: Well...it's kind of great.
SHAWN-D: No, it is. Why wouldn't it be?
JAN: Well...what if...it happens again?
SHAWN-D: What if what happens again?
JAN: What if what happened to my last baby, the one I got pregnant with after Paul Mendez raped me, happens to this baby?
Shawn-D put his arms around Jan.
SHAWN-D: Well, if it does happen, then we'll find a way to work through it. Together.
JAN: Okay. There's just one other thing.
SHAWN-D: What's that?
JAN: It's what I want to say before this section of the chapter ends, but that's not important right now. What is important, is that I don't want anybody to know. I don't want people to find out that I'm pregnant and get all excited and then have something go wrong. So, I don't want people to know just yet.
SHAWN-D: I understand. And, I agree. For right now, it'll just be our secret. We won't let anybody know until you're ready.
JAN: Thanks. So...we're gonna have a baby!
SHAWN-D: I know! It's so exciting!
Shawn-D started rummaging through his pockets.
JAN: Shawn, what are you doing?
SHAWN-D: You'll see in a minute. So, you know how we told each other that we love each other?
JAN: Yeah.
SHAWN-D: Well, I've been planning this for a little while. I know that you said you want to take it slow. And, if you don't want to right now, that's absolutely fine. But, I think that since we're going to be having a baby, that this is the perfect time to do this.
JAN: Do what? Shawn, are you asking what I think you're asking?
Shawn-D finally found what was in his pockets. It was a small box. He opened the box to reveal a diamond ring. Shawn-D got down on one knee.
SHAWN-D: Jan Britney Spears, will you marry me?
Jan's eyes filled with tears. Although, this time, it was the good kind of tears.
JAN: Yes!
Shawn-D got up, put the ring on Jan's finger, and the two kissed. However, the two were not the only ones to hear the happy news. Just outside of the loft, there was a man. He is standing in the shadows, so we cannot see exactly who he is. He has slicked-back hair and is wearing sunglasses. The man had heard all of Shawn-D and Jan's conversation. He chuckled and then walked away.

Well, dear readers, this is where our story ends. A complete eclipse has occurred. The romance of Shawn-Douglas Brady and Belle Black has died. However, like a phoenix from the ashes, there rises a new romance. The romance of Shawn-Douglas Brady and Jan Spears. Now that this new romance has spawned a child, what happens next, you ask? And, who is the mysterious man outside of the Loft? Well...

That's a story for another time.
