Part 5 - Thursday
Chapter 17 SALEM INN - GROUNDS It was the first snowfall of the season. It was so gorgeous outside. The look of the Salem Inn in the snow was the most beautiful sight Sami had ever seen. She and Johnny were outside playing in the snow. They had just finished up a snowball fight and were now making snow angels. A little while later, they were making a snowman together. They were having a great time. STUDY There was a large window in the study. What neither Johnny nor Sami knew was that E.J. was watching them from the window of the study. He had a grim look on his face. Something was happening. They were out there, plotting against him, surely. No, that couldn't be it. He was just being silly. It was impossible that his wife would be trying to turn his own son against him. But, in the back of his mind, he had a sneaking suspicion that that was exactly what was happening. She never let him forget about the accident that led to him giving up drinking. She always held it over his head. E.J. didn't like that he was having these thoughts, but he couldn't help it. Why was he having all of these thoughts? His wife would never do that. She would never turn his own son against him. Something was seriously wrong with E.J.'s mind. And, it was only getting worse.

Uh oh. EJ was warned that the solitude might do strange things to his mind and it is happening now.
As an aside, as a writer, I know exactly how EJ felt being interrupted by Sami earlier. LOL.
This is a fantastic story Andre! Looking forward to more.

I fear EJ's paranoid thoughts will only increase during the long winter of solitude.

Part 6 - Saturday
Chapter 18 SALEM INN - STUDY By now, the snow had completely covered the area. There was no chance of anyone going outside unless it was a severe emergency. To pass the time, E.J. was writing his story. He sat at the typewriter for hours a day. He didn't know why, but he still had other things on his mind. ROMAN'S OFFICE Sami was in Roman's office. The office had a phone, as well as a CB radio. Sami was currently trying the phone, but nothing was working. SAMI: Dang it. Well, our cell phones aren't working and now the phone lines are down, too. Guess I'll have to try this old thing. Sami walked over to the CB. She put on the headset, picked up the speaker, and spoke into it. SAMI: This is SI12 to SI1. After a moment, the radio crackled and a male voice came over. BRADY (over CB): SI1 to SI12, we are receiving you. This is ranger Brady Black. Over. SAMI: This is Sami DiMera up at the Salem Inn. Over. BRADY (over CB): How are you doing up there? Over. SAMI: Okay, I guess. But, our phones are down and our cell phones don't get any reception. Is there any chance the phone lines will be repaired soon? Over. BRADY (over CB): Unfortunately, I doubt it. There's been a lot of phone lines down due to the storm. They won't likely be repaired until the snow melts. Over. SAMI: This is some craY storm, huh? Over. BRADY (over CB): Yep, and it's only gonna get worse. They're predicting the worst winter we've had since the 1970s. Anything else we can do for you, Mrs. DiMera? Over. SAMI: No, thanks. I think we're okay. Over. BRADY (over CB): Okay. Well, if you do need anything, give us a call. I think it may be a good idea to leave your CB on at all times until we can fix the phone lines. Over. SAMI: Okay. Thank you. Over and out. Sami took off the headset and put down the speaker. HALLWAY Johnny was peddling down the hallway on his tricycle. He was really liking the Salem Inn now, even though he still got a strange feeling every time he passed Room 237. However, he was too busy riding the tryc to worry about that, now. He just came around a bend when he saw something that made him grind to a halt. Standing before him were two girls. They were twins, about his age.mBoth had blonde hair and identical baby blue dresses. One had a slight smile, the other a slight frown. They were holding hands. Johnny recognized these girls. They were the same ones he saw in the games room. The ones Zane had shown him before coming yo the hotel, and again in front of Room 237. For some reason, they disturbed Johnny even more this time than they had any other. He wasn't quite sure why. Then, he figured it out. They spoke.

I'm glad Sami has a way to communicate with the outside world.
I wonder what the girls will say to Johnny.

Chapter 19 SALEM INN - HALLWAY When the twin girls spoke, it was disturbing, almost creepy. Their voices were very flat, with no emotion in them at all. They spoke in unison. They never blinked, but just stared at Johnny in the eye. TWINS: Hello, Johnny. Johnny didn't know whether he should reply or not. He didn't wish to be rude, but he also didn't think that everything was right. TWINS: Come and play with us. The twins stepped closer. TWINS: Come and play with us, Johnny. Then, Johnny saw a strange sight. The twins were no longer standing at the end of the hallway, but sprawled out on the ground. They were covered in blood, as were the walls. There was also a bloody axe on the floor near the girls. A moment after this happened, the room went back to how it was, with the girls standing towards the end of the hallway. TWINS: Forever... Again, the twins were on the ground, covered in blood. This lasted only a moment before they were standing and completely clean again, this time halfway between Johnny and the end of the hall. TWINS: And ever... The twins went back to being on the blood stained floor. Then, they went back to standing in front of him. This time, they were directly in front of him. TWINS: And ever. Again, the twins lay on the floor, their clothes, hair and faces, as well as the walls and floor of the hotel, and an axe, filled with blood. Johnny didn't know what to do. He shut his eyes, tight. He didn't want to see anymore. After a few minutes, he opened his eyes To his surprise, the girls were gone. The hallway looked just as it had before. It was completely clean, as if nothing had ever happened. JOHNNY: Zane, I'm scared. Johnny put up one hand and wiggled a finger. JOHNNY (as Zane): Remember what Mr. Carver said: it's just like pictures in a book, Johnny. It isn't real. Johnny put his hand down, and looked all over the hallway. He then began peddling, once he made sure one last time that he was the only one there.

Part 7 - Monday
Chapter 20 HOTEL - LOUNGE Sami and Johnny were sitting in the lounge in the middle of the afternoon. Danny was watching cartoons while Sami read a book. JOHNNY: Mom? SAMI: Yes? JOHNNY: Can I go upstairs and get my toy trains? SAMI: Not right now, sweetie. Your daddy's sleeping. JOHNNY: Please? I won't make any noise. SAMI: Johnny, he only went to bed a few hours ago. JOHNNY: I won't make a sound, I promise. I'll be as quiet as a mouse. Sami put down her book and thought for a moment. Really, what would be the harm in it? SAMI: Well, okay. But, make sure you don't make a sound, and come back as soon as you've got it. I'm gonna be starting dinner soon. JOHNNY: Okay, mom. Johnny got up and walked up to his room. ROOM Johnny very quietly walked up the stairs to the room he and his parents were staying in. When he opened the door, he was surprised to find his father, not lying down asleep, but wide awake and sitting up. When Johnny walked in, E.J. looked at him. JOHNNY: Can I go into my room and get my toy trains? E.J.: Come here first. There was something wrong. E.J.'s voice was different. It was very flat. Johnny walked over, E.J. picked him up and put him on his lap. E.J.: How're you doing, scout? JOHNNY: Okay. E.J.: Having a good time? JOHNNY: Yes, dad. E.J.: Good. I want you to have a good time. JOHNNY: I am. Dad? E.J.: Yes? JOHNNY: Do you feel bad? E.J.: No. I'm just tired. JOHNNY: Then why don't you go to sleep? E.J.: Can't. There's too much work to do. JOHNNY: Dad? E.J.: Yes? JOHNNY: Do you like this hotel? E.J.: Yes, I do. I like it very much. Don't you? JOHNNY: I guess. E.J.: Good. I want you to like it here. I wish we could stay at this hotel forever...and ever...and ever. Now Johnny knew something was wrong. The way that E.J. had said those last few words was the exact same way they had been said by the twin girls from earlier. JOHNNY: Dad? E.J.: What? JOHNNY: You would never hurt mommy and me, right? Suddenly, E.J.'s demeanor changed. He became tense and furrowed his brow slightly. E.J.: What do you mean? Did your mother say that to you? Did she tell you I'd hurt you? JOHNNY: No, dad. E.J.: You sure? JOHNNY: Yes, dad. E.J. relaxed. E.J.: Good. I love you, Johnny. More than anything in the entire world. I'd never do anything to hurt you. You know that, don't you? JOHNNY: Yes, dad. E.J.: Good.

Part 8 - Wednesday
Chapter 21 SALEM INN - HALLWAY Johnny was peddling on his little tricycle through the halls of the Salem Inn. He stopped, as he had done many times during his stay, just outside of Room 237. There was something different about it this time. The door was open. JOHNNY: Mom? No reply came. JOHNNY: Mom, are you in there? Hearing no answer, Johnny made one of the worst decisions he could have. He went inside Room 237. BOILER ROOM Sami was in the boiler room, checking all of the dials and switches. She could tell one of the gauges was getting a tad bit high, so she turned a lever slightly to turn it lower. In the distance, she heard groaning. She became concerned very quickly. E.J. normally snored, but never the type of groan emanating from him now. She ran upstairs to see what was happening. STUDY E.J. had fallen asleep at his typewriter. He was groaning and breathing heavily, as if in the middle of some horrific night terror. Sami ran into the room. SAMI: E.J. what is it? What's wrong? She walked over to him and patted him on the back. SAMI: E.J.? E.J., wake up. E.J. awoke with a start. His breathing was still heavy. SAMI: It's okay, sweetheart. It's just me. E.J.: No...it..it can't be. SAMI: What is it, sweetie? What's wrong? E.J.: A dream...it must have...must have been a dream. Must have. That was...the most terrible dream...most terrible nightmare I ever had. I dreamt...I dreamt that I killed you and Johnny. But, I didn't just kill you. I...chopped you up into little pieces. What's happening to me? I think I'm losing my mind! Sami put her arms around E.J. SAMI: Ssh. It's okay. It's all right. Nothing happened. I'm fine. Johnny's fine. Everybody's okay. Ssh. Just then, Johnny entered the study. He walked in very slowly, as if he were in a trance. SAMI: Johnny, it's okay. Your daddy's just got a little headache. Just go up to the room and play with your toys. Johnny kept walking. It was almost as if he didn't hear her. SAMI: Johnny, listen to me. Johnny stopped walking. Sami walked over to him. SAMI: Johnny...oh my god. There were huge bruises surrounding Johnny's neck, as if some superhuman force had tried to strangle him. SAMI: What happened to your neck? E.J. stared at the two, a far off look in his eye. He sat in the chair, his head held up by his arm. After a moment, Sami looked E.J.'s way. SAMI: You did this to him.
