I hope Johnny heeds Abe's warning about the room.

Abe is a kindred spirit to Johnny.
So Andre, can I ask a question? I now understand the "Shine" part. But I am curious. How did you come up with the title for the story?

That's a great question, Kpatch. I chose this title for a few reasons. One of the reasons is the crazy part. There is a character (not Johnny) who goes crazy throughout this story. I shan't reveal who it is, though. The main reason is that, as I was recently rewatching The Shining for writing this adaptation, I thought about what kind of song would go well for a movie like this. I settled on the 9-part song "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" by Pink Floyd. The first five parts of the song were posted at the beginning of the story. The last four parts will be posted later on. If you get a chance, you should listen to it. It's an interesting song. I'm glad that everyone is enjoying this story so far!

Part 3 - A Month Later
Chapter 13 SALEM INN - HALLWAY It was now the last day of November. Though the first snowfall hadn't come yet, it was sure to any day now. Sami pushed a trolley with food on it down a hallway to the elevator. In a different hallway, Johnny rode a small tricycle. He peddled along, enjoying his new home at the Salem Inn. Still, however much he enjoyed it, there was still something about the place that made him feel uneasy. BEDROOM Sami walked into the room with the trolley. E.J. was asleep on the bed. Sami put the tray on the table next to the bed. SAMI: Morning, honey. E.J. stretched, yawned, and slowly opened his eyes. E.J.: Morning. What time is it? SAMI: 11:30 E.J.: 11:30? Whoa! SAMI: I guess we've been staying up too late. E.J.: Yeah, I know. SAMI: Your breakfast is ready. E.J.: Thank you. E.J. sat up, took the cover off the tray, took a drink of orange juice, and began eating. SAMI: It's so gorgeous outside. Why don't we go for a walk after breakfast? E.J.: You and Johnny can. SAMI: You don't wanna come? E.J.: It's not that I don't want to, but I should probably start working on getting that book of mine written. SAMI: Okay. If you're sure. Any ideas yet? E.J.: Lots of ideas, darling, just none that are good. SAMI: Well, you'll think of something. It's just a matter of getting back into the habit of writing. E.J. nodded as he took a bite of egg. SAMI: It's amazing how fast you get used to a place. When we first came here, I wasn't too sure about it. But, it's kinda growing on me. E.J.: I fell in love with it right away. As soon as I walked in the door for the interview, I felt a strange connection to this place. It's almost like I belong here and always have. SAMI: Really? E.J.: Really. I mean, you've heard of deja vu, right? SAMI: Yeah. everyone has little moments like that. E.J.: Little moments, yes. But, this was ridiculous. It's as if I'd somehow been here before. Like i could anticipate what was going to be around every corner.

Very interesting that EJ feels like he has been here before.

Thanks for explaining the title origin. I forgot about the song. I'll check it out.
It's time for EJ to start writing. Seems like he's putting it off. Not that I'm unfamiliar with that feeling though. LOL. I wonder why he thinks he's been there before. Maybe he has?

Chapter 14 SALEM INN - STUDY E.J. had taken the lounge and converted it into his study. He had placed his type writer on a desk in the center of it. Yes, that's right, a type writer. E.J. was an old-fashioned kind of guy. However, at the moment, he wasn't typing. He held a small tennis ball in his hand and was throwing it against the wall, and catching it when it bounced back. This was a common practice for him when he was thinking about writing. He had done it many times. HEDGE MAZE Sami and Johnny were running towards the hedge maze. The two had decided to go exploring there, and even make a game out of it. SAMI: Loser has to keep America clean. JOHNNY: Okay. Soon, they were chasing each other, trying not to be the loser. SAMI: I'm comin' in close. JOHNNY: You're gonna have to keep America clean. The two laughed and continued chasing each other. After running for quite a while, both were out of breath. They stopped to take a break for a moment. SAMI: Okay, Johnny. You win. Let's walk the rest of this, okay? JOHNNY: Okay. Sami took Johnny's hand. SAMI: It's beautiful out here. JOHNNY: Yeah. STUDY E.J. threw the ball against the wall once more. He then walked over to another part of the study, where he saw a model of the hedge maze. He looked down at it, as if watching it. HEDGE MAZE Sami and Johnny continued watching. Sometimes, they would come to a dead end, and then have to retrace their steps until they found another way. SAMI: It's beautiful, but I didn't think it would be this big. Did you? JOHNNY: Nope. Finally, they found their way out of the hedge maze.

Part 4 - Tuesday
Chapter 15 SALEM INN - KITCHEN Sami was in the kitchen, cooking dinner. There was a small TV on one of the counters. Sami had turned it on so she could listen to the news. NEWS ANCHOR (on TV): Well, it's getting colder out tonight and a snowstorm is on the way. As you can see from our weather map, we have a huge amount of snow coming in from the north and the east, and that could start as early as tomorrow. HALLWAY Johnny was riding through the hallways of the Salem Inn on his little tricycle. He peddled along, enjoying his new life at the Salem Inn with each passing day. He was looking around at all of the big rooms. When he came to one door in particular, he stopped. He looked at the golden numbering on the door. It was Room 237, the room that Abe had instructed him not to go into. But why? What would be the harm in it? Abe had even said that there wasn't anything to be scared of in this place. Johnny got off his tricycle and walked over to the door. Maybe if he just took a quick peek inside, nobody would know. Surely, there wasn't anything in there that would hurt him. Johnny put his hand on the doorknob. Just as he did, before he even started turning, he got a vision. He saw a set of twin girls. The very same girls that had walked into the games room on his first day here. The ones Zane had shown him in his vision a few weeks before coming to the hotel. Johnny didn't know why, but the girls made him feel uneasy. The vision ended as rapidly as it had begun. Perhaps this wasn't the time to go looking at Room 237. After all, Abe had told him that he didn't have any reason to go looking in there. Johnny took his hand off the doorknob, got back on his tricycle, and peddled away. STUDY E.J. was busily typing on his typewriter. He would pause every few seconds and then start again. Sami entered. SAMI: Hi, hon. E.J. didn't acknowledge her. SAMI: How's it going? E.J.: Fine. He had spoken in a very flat voice. SAMI: Have you gotten a lot written today? E.J.: Yes. E.J. stopped typing and looked up at Sami, his expression blank. SAMI: The weatherman says it's supposed to snow tomorrow. E.J.: And, what would you like me to do about it?

I'm glad Johnny resisted the temptation to enter the room.
EJ's writing must not be going well.

Chapter 16 SALEM INN - STUDY SAMI: The weatherman says it's supposed to snow tomorrow. E.J.: And, what would you like me to do about it? Sami blinked. SAMI: Hey, don't be such a grouch. E.J. (tensely): I am not being a grouch, I just want to finish my work. Sami blinked and forced a smile. SAMI: Okay. Right. Well, I'll leave you to it. And, in a few hours, I'll come back with some sandwiches for dinner. E.J. sighed and cleared his throat. E.J.: Samantha, let me explain something to you: when you come in here and interrupt me, you're breaking my concentration. E.J. hit himself upside the head. E.J.: You're distracting me. He rips the page out of the typewriter, tears it up, and throws it in the garbage. E.J.: And it will take me a very long time to get back to where I was! Understand? Sami gulped. SAMI: Yes. E.J.: Good. Now, we're going to make a new rule. Whenever I'm in here and you hear me typing... He violently taps some of the keys to get his point across. E.J.: Or whether you don't hear me typing, whatever the bloody hell you hear me doing, when I'm in here, that means I'm working. That means don't come in. Now, do you think you can handle that? Sami gulped. SAMI: Yes. E.J.: Good. How about we start right now and you get the hell out of here? Not wanting to anger E.J. further, Sami quietly left the room.

Just so everyone knows, this story will not be airing next week, as I will be on vacation in Florida. However, here are some previews for what is to come when I return... Previews When we return... SAMI: Our telephone lines appear to be down. Our cell phones are dead, too. Winter has arrived... BRADY: Keep your radio on at all times. And as cabin fever sets in... E.J.: Did your mother say that to you? ...so does the history of the hotel. TWINS: Come and play with us...forever. Who will survive? E.J.: I would never hurt you. Find out when SHINE ON YOU CRAZY DIAMOND returns Friday, March 28th E.J.: I want us to stay here...forever.
