Days of Our Lives John Aniston Retiring: Victor Kiriakis To Leave Show If you have been a Days Of Our Lives fan anytime over the last 29 years then you are already familiar with Jennifer Aniston’s father, John Aniston who has played the role of Victor Kiriakis to sheer perfection. Even when the character was a big time mobster fans couldn’t help but love him and now that Victor is a reformed businessman he has easily become one of the pillars of the long running show. At age 80, John seems to be ready to retire and according to the Feb. 24th print edition of GLOBE Magazine he has asked the powers-that-be to start to figure out his exit story line. Writing an exit for the character is actually easy because Victor has made a multitude of enemies over the years. His on-set friends, on the other hand, hate the thought of him leaving and are trying to convince him to reconsider. John has already scaled back his screen time and popped up this month after having two months off. Instead of continuing on a more limited basis John really wants to retire to Greece with his wife. Besides his adoring co-workers, John’s daughter Jennifer Aniston is also against his leaving. She has always known her father to be a working actor and the thought of him retiring makes it really hit home that her father’s life is winding down. As for DOOL, they are trying to convince the actor to stay on. Do you think that they’ll succeed or is John serious about leaving for good? He sees this as the chance for the writers’ to tell a great story, will they jump on the opportunity? celebdirtylaundry

I don't want to see Victor go but I can certainly understand John Aniston wanting to retire. He's 80. If not now, when? Especially to Greece.

So sad to hear this. Days will not be the same without him. The Kiriakis men are leaving one by one. First Philip, then Bo, now Victor. But like wendylou said, it's understandable that he would want to retire. He's earned it. I don't think they should write an exit for Victor of any kind. I think they should recast him. Victor Kiriakis is needed on the show. I would just hope they'd do a better job recasting Victor than they did with Mickey.

Victor is such an iconic character, he will be missed if he leaves. I am not sure I could accept someone else as Victor, because he has really made the role his own!

Sad new, but on the bright side if the show does decide to kill off the character it could be a good way to bring the character of Philip back on canvas.

It's sad to see the Kiriakis family getting smaller.

There are no words. Victor Kiriakis has been a stalwart, family-driven, edge-of-evil patriarch for nearly 20 years - since finding out Bo was his son. He grew in depth and character after loving and losing Isabella in 1992. While not always the most moral of people, he was always the first to step up against those who wronged those he loved and never one to back down from even the mighty Phoenix.
John Aniston is, and will forever be, Victor Kiriakis to his most loyal fans. His departure - if true - is another nail in the coffin for me. I have "returned from the dead" many times out of my love for the Brady, Horton and Kiriakis clans. But, this will be the final tumble over the cliff for me. I pray that they pay him the homage he deserves and let him die in a noble and respectful way - saving Bo from some tragedy - and righting the wrongs he did. Personally, I'd love to see a spiritual departure for him - the spirit of Isabella returning to take him home.
He's 80 and deserves his time in splendor before his departure from Days isn't of his own accord.

jakiriakis -- I totally understand where you are coming from. I feel like all my favorite characters are disappearing from the show. My all time favorite - Maggie - Suzanne Rogers is 70 but she seems to love her job and has a lot of energy so I think she will stay. Peggy McKay is 86 and I wonder how much longer she will stay with the show. Joe M (Stefano) is also in his late 80s and has cut back. I don't have a strong attachment to the other characters and it takes time to develop an interest in a new character.

I could not even imagine working until I am in my 80's. Wow! For selfish reasons, I hate to see him go because I adore Victor's wit, one-liners and the air of power he brings to Salem. However, Greece is calling him and I think he deserves to enjoy this time.
I hope they just leave it open-ended and have Victor travel for business. Maggie, like Hope could receive calls from her beloved. I don't think I could stand to hear about Maggie crying in the bathroom again or watch her character reduced to moping around Salem all of the time.
