I hate to think of Maggie losing another husband, but Alice did fine after Tom, and Caroline has been fine without Shawn. I just don't want Maggie to turn into a pathetic, crying mess. Of course, she should mourn (don't get me wrong). But I hope she recovers quickly.
Of course that is all based on the assumption that Victor is going to die. I really hope he doesn't, but I'd bet a dollar that he will. It would be nice if that meant his vacancy would be filled by a Philip return, but more likely it will mean a step up by Justin (which isn't so bad either).
I also wonder how this will affect Brady.

I also wonder how this will affect Brady. If Victor leaves, I think it will be even MORE reason to bring Philip back. Philip is the heir apparent and should be next in line to run Titan. Brady is a mess right now, so it would be perfect timing for Philip (whether played by Jay Johnson or another actor but obviously preferably Jay) to become more Victor-like and become head of the Kiriakis family and business.

Good luck to John Aniston in his retirement. He has by far earned every bit of it.
Recasting Victor for me would be impossible. It would be like trying to re-cast Stefano Dimera, or Sami Brady. These people have taken this character and made it their own. Love them, like them, or hate them, when you hear the actor/actress's names, this character comes to mind. Just like when William Christopher came to DOOL - I could not look at him and call him by any other name than Father Mulcahy. My only hope is that Days can do this right and give the legendary Victor Kiriakis (John Aniston) the send-off that he so greatly deserves. Going up the Horton staircase or the involvement of a bus is NOT gonna cut it and Days will without a doubt hear it from me should they go any less than spectacular for him.

This is freaky. I had a dream like just last week that they killed Victor off so John could retire and Jay came back for the memorial episode. So bizarre since I don't keep up with Days news and I am just hearing about his retirement now.
Though I knew this had to be coming soon...
The whole point I thought of having EJ, Brady and Philip so prominent the past few years was so John Aniston and Joe Mascolo could retire. The show was written in such a way to seamlessly have these guys - especially EJ and Philip step into their fathers' roles. I don't know WTH happened behind the scenes that all of this got derailed....but they need to scurry and fix it now.

Well, maybe they've changed. Allison Sweeny does the Biggest Loser and has for several years now. I don't know why they can't let the other actors work on side projects as well.
I would miss Victor if he left but I don't want another actor to play him. It sounds like JA wants Victor to go out with a bang and if that what he wants for the character then I'd kind of like him to have it. It would be kind of cool if Phillip returned after his father's death or if he was sick, to take over the Kiriakis empire, especially if Victor died at the hands of the DiMeras and he was out for revenge.
I love Jay Kenneth Johnson but I'd accept another actor if it was the right one. I would really like to see the character of Phillip return and have a great story. Victor's exit would be the perfect time.

Slyn11. From the tv show M.A.S.H. William Christopher is the actor that played the part of the priest.
