Wow, I had heard she was going to make an announcement. I was wondering if she's pregnant again. This is really huge b/c she's been on the show so long. Whether or not you like her, Days has made her a focal point of the show for a long time now so her departure will be very big.
I guess I can see why she might want to explore some other things after basically spending more than half her life on the show. She has two young kids and she's still young herself.
Now I'm wondering more about the direction they are going with EJ and Abby. Maybe they will be more permanent than I thought. Ugh!

I didn't listen to the interview, but I think it is time for her to move on. Days hasn't been her focus for a very long time. I will be glad to get a break from Sami Brady.

I am NOT sorry to see her go. Ever since she made a name for herself on Biggest Loser, I've always felt like she acted like Days was holding her back. She NEVER mentioned it in interviews and rarely tweeted about it (which is why I stopped following her ages ago).
I'd hate to see Sami take her kids and leave town (man, I'd miss Johnny like crazy). But it's far too soon (IMO) to speculate as to what they plan on doing with the character.
Either way though, good riddance.

I hope Days sees this as an opportunity to be a real ensemble show with multi-generational stories. Sami has shown no real growth -- same mistakes over and over. I agree -- time to move on. Many thought that when Marlena and John left in 2008 or 09 the show was done but that is the reason I came back. Now I can take Marlena (and maybe John) as a part of the cast but not the character leading every story.

I agree, kathyj. No ONE character should ever be the center of a soap universe. I don't mind when one bad guy (Stefano, for example) has his hands in multiple shady deals. But we should never see the same people over and over every friggin day. Talk about overkill. It gets a little ridiculous after a while.

I don't really care for the character Sami, but I have a feeling that once she leaves, Days won't be on much longer. TPTB have revolved the show around her and she has sooo many fans and alot will probably quit watching when she leaves. I just wonder if James Scott will leave, too. I heard one time that the only reason he kept renewing his contract was bc of Alison and they had so much fun working together and they had such a huge following

Unless offers are flowing in and Mr. Scott is turning them down, I can't see him leaving a well paying job because a coworker left....you still gotta pay the rent...!!!!

I don't blame her at all for wanting to spend more time with her family. She's been on the show since she was in high school.
Seems odd to make the announcement so far in advance.

Poor James Scott.....I bet anything they will probably put him on the back burner when she leaves....I dont blame her for leaving. Being a mom is the most important job she will ever have!!

It still hasn't been decided if Days will even continue another year.....maybe Alison made her announcement a year early just in case....you know, you can't fire me, I quit...

First of all, she can always come back is she wants. It's happened dozens of times with other actors. Secondly, I don't feel any ill will for a young woman with all kinds of opportunities in front of her for wanting to explore them a bit. With two young kids at home, being able to write at home and then just do The Biggest Loser and a few other random things here and there sounds like a pretty good thing to me.
I'm not a huge Sami fan but I'm also one of those people that doesn't do well with change. I will miss the character because she has been such a big part of the show for so long now. That said, I welcome the chance to give others in the cast an opportunity to shine. However, I hope they're going to do better than the whole Snore-den/Rafe/Cheryl mess. If they keep bringing on characters like that the show probably will die with Sami.

I wish Alison all the luck in the world with her future endeavors and I completely understand wanting to be home with the kids more.
But I agree that announcing it this far in advance does seem a little weird and that Days has not been her forefront for quite some time now. I just don't understand how the show could continue to push her into every single storyline, when she wasn't doing as much as she could have to push them. Days may lose a lot of fans when Sami leaves, but at the same time, they may gain quite a few back in the ones that left b/c of Sami's over-exposure on the show. While I wish the actress nothing but the best, I will be more than happy for a break from Sami's constant crying and tired manipulations. Having her & Kate on the same page hasn't really been as good as I had hoped it would be. I liked it better when they were adversaries.
And honestly, if the writers can't prop anyone BUT Sami, then the show doesn't need to continue anyway. Don't get me wrong, I love the show and don't want to see it end, but if they can't focus on other characters more and in multiple storylines, then the show is doomed with or without her.
