I think it's odd that she announced it so far in advance too. My feeling is that she did it for publicity, to create a buzz. And also to put out feelers, to let potential employers know she's available and open to new offers.

It's good for the writers and behind the scenes staff to have the advance notice.

The announcement was very well orchestrated -- I'm sure there are behind the scenes reasons which will benefit both Alison and the show. This may be a good thing for James Scott in the long run. More diversity in story lines for him.

It still hasn't been decided if Days will even continue another year.....maybe Alison made her announcement a year early just in case....you know, you can't fire me, I quit... This is exactly what I am thinking. The last news I heard was that Days was renewed until September 2014. Not sure if I have missed anything. Either way, I like Alison. EJ and Sami have many supporters so I fear that it will be detrimental to the ratings.

I wonder if Alison will be treated the same way that Chandler was?

I wonder if they will recast the role.

I wonder too. There are a few characters that have never been played by anyone else. Sami, Marlena, Hope. I think they probably should recast, but they may feel that fans wouldn't accept anyone else, that Alison as Sami is sacred.

I think they would need to rest the character a little while before bringing on a recast.
I am a Sami fan but I continue to watch when characters I like leave the show.

I think it would be a waste of money to recast Sami. The character is pretty much in a dead end, IMO. She continues to make the same (poor) decisions that ultimately lead to what would put any other reasonable person in prison for life. Yet, she always gets away with it with no consequence. For me, that does NOT leave me rooting for the character. It makes me desperately want to see her get her comeuppance.

I'm hoping this doesn't mean an end for Days. I wish Alison well.

The writers have moved on in the past when Hope and Marlena left. They have plenty of notice. Time to write for a variety of characters.

I just saw on another site that Soap Opera Digest is reporting her last taping date as being in May 2014. So the character will probably leave some time in the fall then. I'm not quite sure how far ahead they're taping at this point. It seems they get farther and farther ahead.

As much as Soap Opera Digest is tweeting, you would think Alison has a family member as an editor there or something. Geez!!! Seriously, almost every tweet today was Sami-related. This is the crap part of Alison announcing it so early. She isn't going anywhere for MONTHS. Heck, she'll probably be on screen all year. Why make a big show of it now?
