Philip is the one who sent Chloe away and wouldn't even talk to her.

But sending the dog tags back is like a knife in the back. That sends the message that they are definitely over. At least, that's how I read it.

And sending them back in the mail is pretty cowardly. It is like breaking up via text message.

I don't like it either but maybe Chloe is feeling hurt by the way Phillip has just shut her out and she's kind of hoping that sending those things back will hurt him just enough to make him realize he wants her back.

Chapter 13, Part 1
Philip headed for the front door, turned the doorknob and opened it. And there stood the last person he ever expected to see again.
“Melanie!”
“Hi. Um. I was just in the neighborhood, so I thought I’d drop by. Is that okay?”
Philip’s eyes widened in surprise. “In the neighborhood???”
“Um, okay, I lied. I’m on my way to Salem but I flew into O’Hare from Barcelona so I could come see you first. ... Aren’t you going to invite me in?”
Philip shook himself from the shock and nodded. “Of course. Sorry. Come in. ... I ... I just can’t get over you being here.”
Melanie spread her arms and did a little twirl. ”It’s me. In the flesh.”
“Um. You hungry? Can I get you anything?”
“Hungry? Um, yeah, but not for food.” Melanie glanced at the glass on the coffee table. “What are you drinking? Scotch?”
“Brandy.”
“Brandy? You always used to drink scotch.”
“I changed. But I can get you a scotch if you want one.”
“Yes please. Um. On the rocks.”
Philip went to the bar and Melanie followed him. “So,” Philip said as he poured, “How’s your mother? She practicing medicine in Spain?”
“Um, I didn’t come here to talk about my mother, Philip.”
Philip looked up at her. “Well, I don’t really want to talk about the rest of your family ... I guess that’s why you’re going to Salem, to see your brother.”
Melanie’s slipped her hand over Philip’s as he handed her the drink. She hesitated before responding. “Um. Yeah. Sorry.”
Philip released the glass and motioned to the couch. “Sit down,” Philip offered as he and Melanie sat on the sofa. “Look Mel, you have nothing to be sorry for. It is what it is.”
“I know. It’s just ... this is really good news for my Dad. And for me. And for Maggie. But it’s awful for you. It’s got to be the worst.”
Philip nodded slowly. “Yeah, it is.”
Melanie placed her hand on top of Philip’s again. “How are you doing, Philip? I mean, how are you really?”
Philip took a deep breath. “Terrible.” His eyes began to water and as soon as Melanie saw his expression change, she put her glass down and put her arms around Philip.
Philip melted into Melanie’s embrace. He closed his eyes and held her tight. It felt good to be in her arms. It seemed like forever since he had any kind of physical contact with another human being and it was ironic that Melanie, of all people, was the one comforting him at a time like this.
To be continued...

Not ironic Philip...perfect...who else would understand this pain?
Loved the little twirl Melanie did at the door, even on the page she just brightens up a scene.

So now Mel can smack him on the head and get him to wake up!! Chloe thinks he doesn't want her anymore because of the way he treated her. He needs to go back to Salem & tell her he loves her STAT!!

I kind of thought it would be Melanie. She is one person who would understand a little bit of what he is going through.

Oh My Girl Mel!!!! I was thinking it would be her. Boy how I have missed her. I am glad that she is there for Philip. He really needs someone to be by him right now.
As for Chole in this story I don't blame her for the way she has treated Philip. She did try to make it work with him, but he just pushed her away. I am sure it hurt her deeply. I think she did what she did to give Philip some of the pain he had given her.
Thanks for the chapter Kpatch. Are we getting any previews this weekend? I would really like some Please.
