Chapter 27
CEDARBERRY INN - SAUK CITY, WISCONSIN
Ciara and Claire were sitting in the hot tub. Both had been silent for several minutes. It was Claire who finally broke the silence.
CLAIRE: I guess things are completely different now at home.
CIARA: Not necessarily.
CLAIRE: How do you figure that?
CIARA: Jan may be your biological mother. But, your real mother will always be Belle. She gave birth to you. She's looked after you all 19 years of your life. And she'll always be here for you. In my opinion, that makes her more of a mother than Jan could ever be.
CLAIRE: Yeah. You're right. Ciara?
CIARA: Yeah?
CLAIRE: Thanks for coming on this trip with me. I'm glad you came.
CIARA: Me too, hon. Me too.
SALEM PLACE
Sydney and Ceri were walking around.
SYDNEY: I finished that book.
CERI: And?
SYDNEY: I loved it! It was so amazing!
CERI: I know! It's great!
SYDNEY: Thanks for letting me borrow that. I guess now I can kind of see why Disney made it into a movie.
CERI: You're welcome. So, what do you want to do today?
SYDNEY: I don't know. As long as I get to spend the day with you, we can do anything. I don't think I've ever been this happy before.
Sydney and Ceri kissed.
BRADY PUB
Max came down the stairs and noticed a note on the bar that had his name on it. The note read:
"Dear Max, by the time you get this, I'll probably be gone. I'm sorry that I didn't stop to say goodbye, but some things have happened that have made me reconsider the way my life is going. It's been a lot of fun seeing you, but I've realized that I need to move on. I hope, at some point, to see you again in the future. Love always, Morgan".
Slightly confused, Max put the letter down and carried on with his work.
TOWN SQUARE
Jan was walking through the Square/
JAN (thinking): Soon enough, Shawn will be mine. I thought this was gonna be hard, but it looks like it might be easier than I thought. I really have been trying too hard all these years. To think, all I had to do was fake a maternity test. Anyway, he'll never catch on. None of them will. Shawn, here I come.
