Chapter 48
At the police station, Victor is standing beside Philip, his hands firmly in his pockets, as Bo hands his brother the clipboard to sign for his release.
Philip looks up to him, “Thanks, Bo.”
“Yeah,” Bo nods, “I would say anytime- but that would be a lie.”
“Listen, I didn’t throw the first punch. I was merely defending myself.” His eyes were wide as he handed his brother back the clipboard.
“I’m gonna go process this,” Bo turns and walks away.
“He’s pissed. Great.” Philip puts his hands in his pockets, turning to Victor, “Thanks for coming to pick me up.”
“You’re welcome, Philip,” He raises an eyebrow, “So, would you care to tell me what happened?”
“That lunatic DiMera kid happened.” His voice rose in defense, he relaxes with a sigh, “I don’t know, Dad, he flipped out. I just hope it was all alcohol induced and he hasn’t actually lost his mind.”
“What did he want?”
“He wanted to see Melanie…He came to the house and I was there and apparently he doesn’t like me very much. He started screaming about Melanie leaving him for me. And that we were going to keep him from his child. Just nonsense that has nothing to back it up- I have no idea where it even came from.”
Victor lowered his brow, “How did you all end up at Chez Rouge?”
“I made the mistake of telling Chad that Melanie’s baby shower was today, so he thought he would take himself over there and give her a piece of his garbled mind.”
“And you thought it a good idea to go after him? After he already tore you apart?”
“Dad,” Philip sighed, “I wasn’t going to let him ruin Melanie’s day.”
His father’s eyes widen, “Alotta good that did!”
“I know,” He sighs, “But I really didn’t think he was capable of flipping out like that. I mean… He really went after me.”
“I can see that,” He gestures to Philip’s swollen face, “Have you even had a look at yourself?”
“No,” He puts a hand to his lip, “I got him pretty good, too, though.” He raises an eyebrow, a coy smirk threatening to cross his lips.
“This isn’t a game, Philip,” Victor scolds, “What do you think you’re trying to do here?”
“Come on, Dad, I’m not playing any games.” Philip rolls his eyes, “I’m just trying to make light of the fact that I just got into the a fist fight with a lunatic, and ended up accomplishing exactly what I was trying to stop Chad from doing.”
“You should have just let him go… let him be the one to blame for ruining Melanie’s shower.” Victor sighs, “I hope the shower was the only thing that suffers from this whole mess.”
“Is Melanie okay?” Philip looks up at his father wide eyed.
“Daniel said that they weren’t sure if she was in labor or not and they were monitoring her… they should know soon what’s going on. So,” Victor takes a deep breath, “Is someone going to come and get that boy?”
Philip shrugs, “I don’t know. And I don’t really care… He needs to stay in here and learn a lesson.”
“He isn’t a child, Philip.”
“Yeah well he certainly puts on a good act, then.” He rolls his eyes. “Well, he should know that Melanie is in the hospital.” Victor turns to see if Bo is coming back yet.
“You’re right. Chad should know that… it is his kid.” Philip sighs, “I think I’ll let someone else take care of it.”
“What is going on with you and Melanie, exactly?” Victor narrows his eyes in question of his son.
“Huh?” He shrugs, “Nothing, Dad. Really. We are just friends. We had a long talk about stuff and decided that we both needed a friend.”
“A long talk about what?”
“Us. Everything surrounding and involving us. We both admit that we do love each other… but there is too much baggage there.”
“So, Chad wouldn’t have any reason to feel threatened by you?” “What? No! We aren’t together, Dad.” Philip rolls his eyes, “Should I spell it out for you, too?”
“No.” Victor huffs, “I just want to be clear. You’re telling me that you don’t think there is even a possibility for the two of you to be together in the future.” He listens as Philip sighs aloud, rolling his eyes.
“You know what? I’m really tired of defending myself today.” He turns, and begins to walk away, “I need to find Bo and get out of here…”
Victor watches as his cell phone rings, he pulls it from his pocket and after reading the caller I.D., he answers, “Maggie… everything okay?”
Philip stops in his tracks and turns back to his father.
“She is? So they are going to take her in now? Yes, I’m here with Philip still. Okay, I will do that and be to the hospital as soon as we can. Love you too. Bye.” He hangs up and looks to Philip, “Well… they are prepping Melanie for a cesarean. Apparently her contractions were picking up too fast and the baby’s heart rate started to drop.”
“Is she okay?”
Victor nods, “Yes. But we need to tell Chad and then I have to get to the hospital to be with Maggie.” He walks past Philip and to Bo to inform him of the situation, leaving Philip in a mild, worried state of shock.

Man, Chad needs to be at the hospital as well. I can't believe the mess Stefano has caused! I hope Melanie and her daughter are going to be okay!

Fingers crossed Stefano eggs Chad on more. Angry and drunk Chad is fun!
I personally think Philip is deluding himself. He could have called and warned Maggie Chad was coming to the shower. He didn't have to come personally to Chez Rouge and try to save the day. LOL

Chapter 49
At the hospital, Maggie crosses her arms and continues to pace the waiting room. She glances at her phone in her hand, and sighs.
Miranda approaches with a glass of water, “Maggie…” She places a hand on her shoulder.
Maggie turns and smiles, “Hi, honey,” She accepts the cup from her, “Thank you.”
“Of course,” Miranda smiles, “How are you doing?”
“I’m okay,” She takes a deep breath, “It’s just a little hard. I can’t help but think about the last time we were all here waiting for Melanie to come out of surgery.”
“Oh, Maggie, she’s going to be okay.” Miranda smiles encouragingly, “They both will!”
“I know,” Maggie smiles, “I’m just nervous.”
Miranda looks past Maggie when she sees Victor and Philip enter. Maggie follows her gaze.
“Victor!” Maggie hastily meets him in a hug, they back away and she addresses Philip, “Hi, Philip. Are you all right?”
“Yeah,” He nods, “I’m so sorry, Maggie…”
She nods, “I know you are.”
“How is she?” Victor inquires.
Maggie takes a deep breath, “We haven’t heard anything yet. Daniel and Carly are both in the operating room with her. Did someone tell Chad?”
“Bo did, yes. They are working on getting him released so that he can be here.”
“How is he?” Maggie looks between Philip and Victor, noting Philip’s exasperated expression, “How did he handle it?”
“I don’t know,” Victor sighs, “We left before Bo came back.”
“Maggie, don’t worry, I’m not staying here. I’m just waiting for the car to pick me up. I know I shouldn’t be here.” Philip spoke firmly, with a realistic tone in his voice.
“Thank you,” Maggie nods, “I just want things as calm as possible for Melanie.”
“I do too.” Philip smiles, “So I’m going to go downstairs, I’ll just wait down there.”
Victor nods to Philip, “Okay.” He turns back to Maggie, who looks regretful.
“I’m sorry, Victor… I-”
“No, Maggie. He understands.”
“I’m really not angry with him… I just want to avoid anything else happening.”
Miranda puts her hand on Maggie’s shoulder, “I’m going to go talk to Maxine and see if she knows anything.”
“Okay,” Maggie leans in and hugs her, “Thank you for the water. And the company.”
“Anytime,” She smiles.
Maggie watches Miranda walk away and then turns to Victor, who smiles.
“She’s a nice young girl.”
“Yes, she is,” Maggie nods, “So… Um, did you find out anything more about what happened? What caused Chad to all of a sudden grow so angry?”
“No,” He shook his head as they made their way to a seat in the waiting room, “He was very drunk when they tested him at the police station. Bo said he wasn’t talking much at all, and was very compliant.”
“I feel like this isn’t over, Victor…” Maggie’s eyes were wide as she looked into his, “I’m afraid that this is just the beginning of what might be a long and bitter battle.”
“I know.” Victor nods, looking down, “I was thinking of asking Philip to move out of the mansion and get his own place.”
“Oh, Victor, no….”
“Yes, I think it would be best. It certainly isn’t fair to ask Melanie to leave, now that she is going to have the baby and will need your help.” Victor shrugs, “Philip will understand.”
Maggie takes a deep breath, “Well, I don’t think any decisions like that need to be made right now. Let everything settle down a little bit first.”
“Maggie, we can’t have Philip and Melanie living together in the same house. It’s going to make Chad crazy. That is, if he isn’t already.”
"So they don't live in the same house. That's only part of it," Maggie raises an eyebrow, “It’s not like we can tell them they can’t be friends or have anything to do with one another.”
“That might have to happen, too. From what Chad was saying to Philip, he thinks that Melanie and Philip are going to team together to keep Chad from seeing his daughter. So, by them carrying on their lives in such close proximity, it’s only going to prove that theory to Chad.”
“Even if it isn’t true.” Maggie sighed as she spoke in realization, “I never thought that we would be worrying about how to “handle” Chad… but after tonight, I think that’s exactly what we're going to need to do.”
“I’m sorry that it is…” Victor sighs.
Maggie nods, “Me too.”
She looks up at Victor before a figure approaching catches her eye. It’s Daniel. She jumps from her seat, “Daniel!” She rushes over to him, “How is she?!”
Daniel looks between Maggie and Victor, a bright smile crossing his face, “They are doing great.”
“Oh!!” Maggie rushes into Daniel’s arms, he hugs her tightly, a tear falling to his cheek as he closes his eyes, “She’s here!”
“She is here,” Daniel nods with a joyous smile, “Little Sophia Margaret, all 6lbs 5oz, and 17 inches of her.”
“What a little peanut!” Maggie smiles brightly.
“Yes, but with her mother’s lung capacity and vocal volume.” They laugh.
Victor smiles at the two, “Congratulations.”
“Thank you,” Daniel smiles, then looks down where Maggie rests under his arm, “You can see Melanie as soon as she’s out of recovery… but the little baby girl should be settled in the nursery any minute now.”
“Okay,” Maggie nods, her face bright with excitement, “I need to go call your sisters… and I promised Hope that I would let her know as soon as I knew anything.”
Daniel nods as Maggie rushes away from them, immediately on her phone. He looks up to Victor, his face radiating joy.
“Welcome to grandfather-hood, my boy.” Victor smiles, shaking his hand.
“Thank you! So far, I think grandfather-hood is pretty incredible,” He smiles, “That baby girl already has me wrapped around her finger.”
“I don’t doubt it… granddaughters have a way of doing that.”
“I was the first one to hold her…” Daniel smiles, “I introduced her to Melanie… and Carly.” He pauses, his tears catching in his throat, “I think it was the most beautiful moment in my entire life.” He smiles at Victor through his tears.
“I’m glad you got to be there for that. Not everyone gets that opportunity.” Victor nods, his face soft. Both men turn when Maggie re-approaches.
“Everyone is so excited and can’t wait to see them both,” Maggie smiles to Daniel, “Sarah and Melissa are already planning a trip!”
“That’s nice of them,” Daniel nods, “I know they are busy with their lives.”
Maggie nods, “Hope is going to spread the word to everyone else, meaning probably the rest of Salem.”
“That’s perfect!” Daniel laughs, “Because that means you don’t have to make anymore calls and I think Sophia Margaret is anxious to meet her great-grandmother!”
“Oh, well I know I am anxious to meet her!” Maggie smiles as Daniel puts as arm around her, she looks back to Victor, “Are you coming?”
“I’m going to stay back here,” Victor smiles, “I need to try and call Bo.”
“Okay.” Maggie steps forward, meeting him in a tender kiss, “Thank you…” He nods to her, watching as she turns with Daniel and disappears down the hall.

Chapter 50
Victor turned around, pulling his phone out of his pocket. He is distracted when he looks up and sees Bo exiting the elevator with Chad. He puts his phone back in his pocket and meets them.
“I was just about to call you!”
“Well,” Bo smiles, “We’re here.”
“Chad.” Victor nods in the boys direction.
“Hi, Mr. Kiriakis.” Chad’s face is sullen and still.
Victor takes a deep breath, “Well you have arrived just in time… The baby is in the nursery and Melanie should be out of recovery any time now.” Victor watches as Chad nods and slowly wanders away from the two men to a nearby window, “Is he all right?”
“He hasn’t said barely 3 words since I got him out of his cell.” Bo shrugs.
“Not even when you told him that the baby was born?”
Bo shakes his head, “Nope. I don’t know what it is; if he’s embarrassed or what, but it’s odd.”
“So I guess you haven’t gotten anything out of him, I mean as to what lead him to whatever mania he was experiencing.”
“No, I haven’t. He’s not a happy person, though. I can tell you that much. Anyone who just learned that their baby was born doesn’t act like that. It’s like he doesn’t even care.”
“No,” Victor sighs, “He cares. I think he’s scared to death. He just acted like a raving lunatic and attacked another person while severely inebriated. Now he’s a father. That’s a big jump.”
“I guess it doesn’t reflect too well on his personal character and ability to parent, huh?” Bo raises an eyebrow.
“I wouldn’t say so.” The men turn when they see Chad re-approaching.
“I would like to see my daughter.” He stands still, his hands in his pockets.
“Sure,” Victor nods, “Uh, I’m sure Miranda could walk you back to the nursery, I’ll go and get her.”
Victor turns and walks toward the nurse’s station, leaving Chad in his same somber state.
Maggie follows Daniel to the nursery entrance. He swipes his card and opens the door, allowing his mother to enter in front of him. They are greeted by a smiley nurse in baby printed scrubs.
“Hi, Dr. Jonas… Mrs. Kiriakis,” She smiles, “Congratulations on your new addition!”
“Thank you,” Daniel smiles.
The young nurse points to the end of the row, “She’s right down there.”
Daniel nods as he guides Maggie into the nursery, past 3 or 4 babies before they stop at a peacefully sleeping baby with fair peach skin and a pink cap. The nametag on the bassinet reads, “Baby Jonas.”
Maggie smiles brightly, tears falling to her cheeks, as she watches Daniel reach down and scoop the baby from her bassinet. As he settles her in his arms, she opens her eyes and looks up at him.
“Hey there, princess.” He smiles, caressing her cheek, “I hope you haven’t forgotten your old grandpa, already!” He looks back to Maggie with a smirk, “I thought I would just dive right in with that word. Maybe I’ll get used to it.” He watches as Maggie chuckles, her eyes ceasing to look up from the bundle in his arms. “Hey, Sophie… there’s a really great lady that I’d like to introduce you to. She’s the best you’ll ever meet, and lucky for you, she’s your very own great-grandma…” He smiles as he eases the baby into Maggie’s open arms.
“Hi, beautiful.” She smiles through her tears, “I can’t believe we’re all finally getting to meet you!” She looks up at Daniel, “She looks so much like Melanie…” She watches as he nods in agreement.
“Carly said she looks just like Melanie did when she was born.” He looks downward. “Oh!” Daniel’s eyebrows rise, “I have to show you something…” He pulls back Sophie’s cotton cap to reveal the red locks of hair on the top of her head.
“Oh, look at that…” Maggie speaks wistfully, “She has red hair.” A smile crosses her face as she meets eyes with Daniel who repositions the cap.
“She sure does,” Daniel smiles, “Melanie was so excited when she saw that. She couldn’t wait for you to see.”
Maggie nods, her eyes full of tears, she looks back down at the baby, “You have the most beautiful little face…” She looks up at Daniel, “Isn’t she just precious?”
“She certainly is.” He watches as she looks back down at the baby and gently caresses her little hand. Instinctively, baby Sophie grips her grandmother’s finger tightly.
Daniel looks up to see Chad peering at them through the glass, “Mom, turn around…”
Maggie turns her head in Chad’s direction. She smiles as she turns the rest of her body, displaying the baby in her arms. She watches as Daniel goes to the door and permits Chad to enter. He approaches Maggie and the baby. “Sophie, your daddy is here!” Maggie smiles up at Chad, “Say ‘hi’ to your daughter.” She carefully positions the baby into Chad’s arms.
“Hi, little girl… I’m your daddy!” He smiles brightly as she stares up at him with her wide curious eyes.
“We’ll leave you two alone,” Maggie smiles as she joins Daniel at his side.
Chad looks up, “Thanks…” He watches as they leave, then makes his way to the rocking chair in the corner. “I’ve been waiting for you, Sophia.” He sits in the chair and smiles softly as she yawns, he runs his finger along her cheek, “I can’t believe you are here. And you’re my daughter. I promise you, Sophia, I am going to do whatever I have to, in order to make sure I am always involved in your life. No one is ever going to keep me from you.” He leans down, placing a soft kiss to her forehead.
