Haha GAPeach.
I agree that Stefano is hard to write. That's why I mostly don't. LOL.
I was in complete agreement with Stefano on this one. You just never know what's going to happen in the future and you have to protect your interests.
Great chapter sjw!

Chapter 44
Chez Rouge is bustling with family and friends that have all gathered for Melanie’s baby shower. Hope and Jen are mingling together by the snacks, all smiles. Hope looks around admiring the decorations, before setting her eyes on Melanie, who is talking with friends at the other side of the room.
“Melanie looks so beautiful.” Hope smiles as Jen nods in agreement. “I know that she isn’t technically family, but I feel like she is. I feel like we’re about to welcome a new baby into our family.”
Jennifer smiles, “Me too. It’s funny to think, if things had worked out with me and Daniel, Melanie would have been my family.” Her eyes wander to where Daniel and Carly are standing with Maggie by the kitchen.
Hope follows her cousin’s gaze, “Daniel and Carly look really happy.”
“They do.” Jen nods.
“Does it bother you?”
Jen furrows her brow, “What?”
“Seeing Daniel with Carly… I mean, Carly being a close friend and everything.” Hope shrugs.
“No,” Jen smiles, “Not at all. I love Carly. And they do already have a child together. If they are both happy, which it looks like they are, then I am happy for them.”
Carly and Maggie are talking, before Daniel draws Maggie’s attention by his ungodly consumption of bread dip. She leans over and takes the tray from the table, setting it on the counter nearby.
Daniel looks up with a mouthful, “Hey! So I not only have to leave, I can’t even have some food for the road?!”
“Not the way you eat…” Maggie chuckles, “Besides, there are plenty of snacks at the house for you guys.”
“Great, that means I will have to fight Brady and Philip for them.” Daniel sighs.
Carly rolls her eyes, “Seriously, brat much?”
“Mom… don’t call Dad a brat!” Melanie comes up behind them with a smile, putting both her arms over their shoulders.
Daniel smiles as acknowledges her, “Good thing I have my daughter to stick up for me!”
“Yeah… But, uh, you probably should go. I mean… you don’t really fit in.” Melanie’s face mocks concern.
“She’s right, you do stick out…” Maggie chuckles, “And we wouldn’t want you to be subjected to any baby shower activities.”
“Oh, you are correct.” His eyes widen in concern, “I need to get out of here before all of those games start…” They all laugh as he raises his eyebrows before hugging Melanie, then kissing his mother’s cheek.
Carly smiles as he leans over placing a soft kiss on her lips. Maggie and Melanie exchange surprised, but happy glances as he says goodbye and walks out of the room.
Melanie makes her way to Maggie’s side, looking at Carly coyly, “Mommy and daddy, sittin’ in a tree… k-i-s-s-i-n-g… first comes love…” Melanie pauses, furrowing her brow.
“A little out of order on that one, huh?” Carly raises an eyebrow before putting a grape in her mouth.
“…First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes GRAND-baby in the baby carriage!!” Melanie giggles as Carly playfully slaps her arm.
“Clever, darling…” Maggie chuckles as she hugs Melanie around the shoulders.
Melanie’s giggles subside as she rests her head on Maggie’s shoulder, “Thank you both so much for putting this shower together. It’s amazing.”
“You are so welcome, sweetheart…” Maggie hugs her close.
“I hope it is everything you ever wished for,” Carly smiles, “Because you deserve it!”
Melanie smiles, “Thanks… it’s nice to hear that.” She places a hand on her stomach, “I still can’t believe she’s almost here!”
“Me either! The time is going by so fast.” Carly shakes her head, as she hands Melanie a cup of punch.
“I know,” She takes a drink, “I have really enjoyed being pregnant, though. I think I’ll be a little sad when she’s not in my belly anymore.”
“Aw,” Maggie brushes her hand along Melanie’s hair, “I wouldn’t worry about that. Just wait until you can hold her in your arms and look into her beautiful little face!”
Carly smiles to Maggie and Melanie as Jennifer and Abigail approach; Abigail has just arrived.
“Abigail!!” Melanie’s face lights up as she walks toward her friend with open arms, meeting her in a hug..
“Melanie, I’ve missed you so much!” Abigail leans back to look at her friend, a smile on her face.
“I’ve missed you too…”
“Look at you!” Abigail’s face is bright, “You look great!”
Melanie smiles, “Thanks...”
“Hi, Aunt Maggie!” Abigail shifts to hug Maggie.
Maggie smiles, “So glad you could make it, sweetie!”
“Me too!” Abigail smiles, “I’ve been so busy with work… But I had to put things aside so I could make it back to Salem for this baby shower.”
“Aw,” Melanie grows teary, “That means so much to me!” She hugs her friend again; they break away, “How long will you be here?”
“About a week,” She smiles to Jennifer, “I promised mom that I would stay long enough to spend some time with everyone and relax a little.” Jennifer puts her arm around Abigail.
Maggie smiles, “We are all so proud of you, Abigail.”
“Thank you,” She smiles, “I’m proud of this one!” She takes Melanie’s hand.
Melanie smiles, “Oh, come on!”
“We are so very proud of you, Melanie.” Jennifer smiles, “And so happy to share this day with you.”
“Thank you. I’m glad you are all here!” Melanie smiles, “Thanks to my wonderful mother and grandmother for planning this perfect shower.”
“It is perfect!” Jen exclaims, “I can’t get over the decorations! This place looks amazing.”
Maggie smiles, “Well, I’m glad you like it!”
Abigail guides Melanie away from the group, who has begun to talk amongst themselves, “How are you doing?”
Melanie takes a deep breath, “I’m okay. I’m great today! Just have had a lot going on recently.”
“Yeah, I know that Philip is back in town and you and Chad are…”
“Not together…” Melanie’s face grows serious.
Abigail tilts her head, “What happened?”
“Too much,” Melanie laughs softly, “The accident, and thinking I was married to Philip and everything… I don’t know I think I just grew apart from Chad. Once my memory returned, I didn’t feel the same way. I feel terrible… breaking up with Chad was the hardest thing.”
“So are you and Philip together now?”
“No!” Melanie’s eyes widen, “No, we are not. I’m not ready to be in any kind of a relationship. We are friends… and I’m happy about that… but that’s it.”
“Do you think that eventually you would want to be in a relationship with him?” Abigail inquired softly, watching as Melanie takes a deep breath.
“Melanie!” They turn as Hope and Ciara approach. Ciara carrying a large spool of string, Hopes eyes are twinkling. “You need to come over here now, so everyone can take turns measuring your belly!”
Melanie laughs, “Oh, no…” She smiles as everyone crowds around her and ushers her into the center of the room, leaving Abigail to wonder the answer to her question.

Chapter 45
Chad pounds on the Kiriakis Mansion door; his hand falls on empty space when Henderson answers.
“Excuse me? Mr. Dimera?”
Chad pushes himself into the room, “Yeah, I want to see Melanie.”
“She isn’t here, sir.” Henderson’s face was full of skepticism at Chad’s obviously belligerent state.
“Where is she?” His voice was loud and boisterous.
Henderson opens his mouth to speak before they are interrupted by Philip entering the room.
“What’s going on, Henderson?” He stops short when he sees Chad, “Hi, Chad.”
“Oh, great… PERFECT!” Chad rolls his eyes dramatically, “Just the asshole I wanted to see today!”
“Chad… what are you doing here?”
“What am I doing here? I came here to see the mother of my child! Aren’t I allowed to do that? Or do I have to ask your permission!?”
Philip took a deep breath, “No, Chad… Why would you have to ask my permission?”
“You’re the one who thinks she’s yours now. She dumped me so that she could be with you- Philip Kiriakis, her knight in shining armor!”
“Chad, you need to calm down. That couldn’t be further from the truth.”
“Really?!” Chad lunges forward, causing Philip to step back, “I don’t think so!”
“Well, I’m telling you that’s not the case.”
Henderson turns to Philip, “Should I call the police, sir?”
“No, Henderson,” Philip shakes his head, “Mr. DiMera can leave if he’s unable to communicate like a civilized human being.”
Henderson nods before leaving the room.
“I’m not leaving until I see Melanie! You can’t hide her from me!”
“She isn’t here, Chad. No one is hiding her from you… she just isn’t here.”
Chad raises an eyebrow, “Yeah, then where is she?”
Philip makes no comment.
“If you aren’t keeping her from me, then why won’t you tell me where she is!?” He was yelling now, and Philip was beginning to grow uncomfortable.
“I’m not keeping you from her, but don’t you think seeing you in this kind of condition would cause her stress?”
“What kind of condition?” Chad scoffs, “Shut up, Kiriakis. Where is Melanie?”
“I’ll only tell you if you promise to calm down.” Philip stayed back, his voice flat and calm, “She doesn’t need you ruining her day.”
“Are you freaking kidding me?!” Chad chuckles, “Seriously, you’re gonna stand here and tell me what I can and can’t do with Melanie and then say that you two aren’t together.”
“We’re friends, Chad.”
“You were MARRIED! Exes can’t be just friends!” Chad mocked.
Philip shook his head, “I don’t know what your problem is… but there is nothing going on with me and Melanie.”
“Oh?” Chad’s eyes widened, “You don’t know what my problem is? My problem is YOU. You trying to worm your way into Melanie’s and my daughter’s life.”
“I’m not trying to do that, Chad.”
“Sorry if I don’t believe you. I know how you people are. You will do whatever you can to get into Melanie’s life and take my daughter from me.”
Philip was getting concerned now, Chad was literally flipping out, and it didn’t matter what he said- nothing was going to appease him until he knew where Melanie was, “Chad,” He takes a deep breath, “Today is Melanie’s baby shower… that’s why she isn’t here.”
“Oh how nice of you to let me in on that little secret.” Chad smiles, “I guess I’ll be paying her a visit. I think she needs to hear what I have to say, too.”
“I told you, Chad… She doesn’t need you ruining her day!” Philip’s volume rose, “I don’t know what your issue is… but she doesn’t need to deal with it.”
“Oh, she’s gonna deal with it. If I have an ‘issue’ or a ‘problem’, then she is the one that caused it!” Chad sloppily turns around and stomps out of the door, almost running down Daniel who approaches.
Daniel watches then turns back to Philip, “What the hell was that?”
“I don’t know…” Philip’s eyes were wide, “I don’t know if he’s on something or just drunk or losing his mind… but he’s not right.”
“What’s wrong?” Daniel was concerned.
“He came in here looking for Melanie and then started screaming at me for taking her away from him!”
“Did you tell him where she was?”
Philip sighed, “I told him it was her baby shower… I didn’t tell him where.”
“Come on… we have to get him before he gets to her. I’m not going to have him do anything stupid and upset Melanie. She’s already upset enough over this whole thing.” Daniel turns and rushes out the door, Philip following close behind.

Wow, Stefano really got Chad all worked up. There is absolutely no reasoning with him. Was Philip right? Was he drunk? High? I'm looking forward to seeing Chad confront Melanie at the shower. That should be fun. Daniel and Philip to the rescue!

Chapter 46
Collective “Awe”’s echo Chez Rouge as Melanie opens a baby bath set and displays it to the group. Miranda is sitting at a table nearby, writing down the items and who they are from.
Melanie smiles to her, as she picks up another gift, “This one is from… my mom!”
Abigail is smiling happily as she watches, when a figure catches her eye. She turns in her seat and spots Chad in the foyer, the maitre d’ not allowing him to enter. She gets up and walks out to meet him.
“Chad… what are you doing here?”
Chad narrows his eyes, “I need to see Melanie…”
Abigail quickly smells the alcohol on his breath and pushes him further away from the entrance of the restaurant, “Chad… you’re drunk.”
“I’m not drunk. I just had one drink. Just shut up and let me see Melanie.”
“She doesn’t need to see you like this, Chad, she’s already upset enough about this whole situation.” Abigail positions herself in front of him to block his escape.
He peeks around her when he hears laughter, “She doesn’t seem too upset. But she should be. Maybe she needs me to remind her of what a piece of crap she is?”
“Chad!” Abigail exclaims, “What is the matter with you!?”
“Melanie is the matter with me… Melanie and Philip Kiriakis and they’re perfect little life. They think they are gonna keep me from my daughter and they are so wrong.”
“Where do you get that from? Melanie and Philip aren’t even together.”
“Really, Abigail?" Chad sloppily tilts his head with a mocking stare, "You haven’t been here. You haven’t seen them together. And how she laughs at him and stares into his eyes. They are lying. They are lying and then after my daughter is born, Philip is going to swoop in and help Melanie keep her from me- the EVIL Dimera boy.”
“Are you serious?” Abigail tilted her head, puzzled in question.
“You think I’m not? Well, Melanie and Philip are in for a rude awakening when they find out how serious I really am!” His eyes are wide and full of fury.
Abigail rests her hands on his chest to calm him, “Chad, please…”
“Get off of me!” He swats her hands away as Philip and Daniel burst through the doors.
“Chad!” Daniel rushes toward him grabbing his shirt, “Hey! Don’t touch her!”
Chad spins around to face Daniel only to see Philip standing behind him, “Oh, what are you doing? Come to save your girlfriend from me?”
“Chad… come on…” Philip sighs.
Daniel puts his hand on Chad’s shoulder, “Calm down, Chad… Let’s take this somewhere else where you and I can talk.”
“I came here to see Melanie! I want to talk to her, and no one is going to keep me from doing it!” He turns to head swiftly into the room before Philip rushes behind him, grabbing his arm.
“Don’t you dare go anywhere near her.” Philip has had enough of Chad’s belligerent attitude.
“Get the hell off of me!” Chad spins around and without pause, swats his fist directly into the side of Philip’s face.
“Oh my God!” Abigail screams, putting her hand to her mouth.
Inside, Melanie looks up concerned, “What is going on!?” She gets up from her seat and heads out to the foyer, Maggie and Carly follow her and the rest of the group trickles behind.
Melanie’s eyes widen when she arrives in the doorway to find Chad and Philip on the floor, now beating the tar out of each other, “Oh my God! Stop! Both of you stop!”
Maggie comes up behind Melanie and gasps, before telling the maitre d’ to call the police. She turns back just in time to see Chad wale Philip with another punch to the face.
“Chad! STOP!” Melanie is crying as she screams, before Philip flips over on top of Chad and unleashes a forceful punch on his face, “No! Philip!” She watches as Daniel attempts to pull them away from each other, “Please, Dad! Don’t get hurt. Please, just stop!!!”
Maggie wraps her arm around Melanie’s shoulders, “Come on, honey, you need to calm down…let’s go sit.” She guides Melanie away in tears, as the men continue to beat on each other.
“They’re going to kill each other!!” Melanie shakes her head.
Hope tries to step into the situation, “Both of you… this isn’t solving anything! You’re both going to end up in jail, now. Just back off…”
Daniel and Hope attempt to work together in prying the men off of each other, whose faces are both covered in blood. Abigail and Jennifer try to control the large group that is crowded in the area.
Inside, Maggie is sitting with Melanie, her arms tight around her shoulders as she cries, “Sweetheart, you need to calm down you’re going to make yourself sick.”
“This is all my fault! I did this!” She sobs as Carly brings her a glass of water.
“Melanie, this is not your fault.” Carly brushes her hand along her daughter’s cheek.
They all turn as they hear sirens and see the flashing lights pull in.
Maggie breathes a sigh of relief, “Thank God, the Police are here.”
“I can’t believe this is happening…” Melanie cries, collapsing further into Maggie’s arms.
“Shh, come on honey… Don’t do this to yourself. It isn’t good for you to be this upset.” Maggie speaks softly in an effort to comfort Melanie’s sorrows.
They all turn when Daniel walks in breathing heavily, Carly hands him a glass of water, “What the hell happened out there?”
“Chad’s drunk and started screaming at Philip, insistent on talking to Melanie…” he takes a drink of his water, “We finally just got them apart, before the police took over.”
Melanie looks up at her dad, her sobs subsiding slightly, “Are they okay?”
“Pretty bloody.” Daniel shrugs, “But they’re both in good enough shape to take a trip to the police station…” His anger was evident in the sharp tone of his voice.
“Oh my God,” She shakes her head and cries again, “What did I do?”
“Sweetheart, shh… you didn’t do anything. Come on, you have no control over their actions!” Maggie rests her head atop Melanie’s, looking up at Daniel, “Are you going to go with them?”
“Yeah,” He nods, “They’re gonna need to take a statement from me…”
Maggie nods before feeling Melanie’s body tense as she suddenly sits up from her embrace. She looks down, “Melanie? You okay?”
“I don’t know…” Melanie looks up at her parents who are looking at her wide eyed, “Something’s wrong…”
Carly rushes to her side, “What? What do you feel?”
“Cramping… and pressure…” Melanie’s face is pained as she holds onto her swollen stomach.
“Daniel,” Carly turns quickly to her, “Is there any ambulance here?”
“Yes,” Daniel nods, “I’ll go get them.” He turns and runs out of the room.
“Oh no…” Melanie moans in agony, as Carly and Maggie exchange worried glances.

Chapter 47
It had been a chaotic ride and arrival to the hospital. After a quick examination in the emergency room, the doctors thought it wise to have Melanie hooked to a fetal monitor so that they could determine whether or not she was in active labor. She was having contractions irregularly, but the pressure she was feeling had subsided slightly.
Melanie rests her head back against the pillow and takes a deep cleansing breath as Maggie hands her a cup of ice chips, “Thanks,” She smiles as she takes them from her.
“You’re welcome,” She sits down beside the bed, “How are you feeling now?”
“All right,” She shrugs, “But, I’ve been better… I can’t get that image of Chad and Philip out of my head.”
Maggie raises her eyebrows in warning, “You heard the doctor… you need to stay calm.”
“Yeah,” She nods as she takes an ice chip in her mouth, “Yum… I guess I can pretend this is my cake that I didn’t get to eat.”
“I’m sorry, sweetheart.” She grips her hand, “It’s not going anywhere though…”
“I know,” Melanie smiles wearily, “I’m whining.”
“You’re allowed to whine,” Maggie smiles before watching as Melanie’s face falls and she feels her gripping her hand tighter, “You all right?”
“Yeah,” Melanie nods as she closes her eyes, putting her other hand to her abdomen.
“Just try to relax,” Maggie’s voice was soothing as she brushed her hand along Melanie’s hair-line, “It’ll be over in just a minute…” She watches the monitor.
“I know,” She nodded, continuing to keep her eyes closed, before opening them again, her body relaxing. Her face is worried as she looks to Maggie, “Shouldn’t they be stopping?”
“Yes,” Maggie takes a deep breath, smiling encouragingly, “Just give the medicine a little time to work.”
“I’m scared…” Melanie’s eyes fill with tears, “It’s not time yet. I don’t want anything to happen to her.”
“I know you’re scared,” Maggie smiles lovingly as she brushes her hand along Melanie’s worried face, “But it's not that early, sweetie. If she’s meant to come today, then she will. If she’s anything like her mommy, she won’t be letting anyone else change her plans.”
“Yeah,” Melanie smiles through her tears, “I’m in for it, aren’t I?”
“I think so!” Her eyes brightened, “You will soon be meeting your match, my darling girl.”
They smile to each other, both turning when the door opens- Daniel and Carly enter.
Carly smiles as she makes her way to the other side of the bed, “How are you?”
“Okay,” Melanie nods, “I’m still having contractions.”
Daniel stands at the foot of the bed, “How far apart are they?”
“They aren’t regular… this one was only about 8 minutes or so from the last one.”
“Was it strong, honey?” Carly tilted her head in question.
“I don’t know,” Melanie shrugged, “But I can handle it.”
Maggie smiles to Carly, a small twinkle in her eye at Melanie’s response.
Daniel takes a deep breath, “Well, Dr. Connell says they want to monitor your activity on the medication. If the contractions don’t subside within the hour, then she said they probably won’t be able to stop them with the meds.”
“So, then I’ll be having a baby today.” Melanie’s eyes were wide.
“Possibly, yes,” Daniel smiles, “Today, tomorrow… definitely in the very near future.”
“Oh boy,” Melanie takes a deep breath, and then looks to Maggie and Carly, “I’m not ready! I didn’t even get to open all of my gifts!”
“Don’t worry, there is still time to do that…” Maggie smiles, “We will take care of whatever you need.”
Melanie takes a deep breath, “I don’t even know what I need!”
“Well, lucky for you, your grandmother and I have been knee deep in baby books and baby stores so we know exactly what is needed to prepare for the arrival.” Carly smiles, brushing her hand through Melanie’s hair.
“You don’t need to worry about a thing,” Maggie smiles encouragingly, rising from her seat, “I’ll be right back, okay? I’m going to make a quick phone call…”
“Okay,” Melanie nods as Maggie leans down placing a kiss on her forehead, “Love you.”
Maggie nods, “I love you.” She turns, picks up her purse from the chair and walks out of the room. Daniel follows her, leaving Carly and Melanie alone.
Outside of the room, Daniel and Maggie make their way to the nurse’s station.
“Have you heard anything from the police station?” Maggie inquires as she leafs through her purse in search of her cell phone.
Daniel shakes his head, “No… But Victor called and said he was headed to pick up Philip. Apparently they are keeping Chad in protective custody until he sobers up.”
“Are they all right? They weren’t too badly hurt?”
“No, they’re going to be fine.”
“Good,” Maggie nods, “Does Chad know Melanie is here?”
“I don’t know. Probably better if he doesn’t. Hopefully once he sobers up he won’t be such a raving lunatic.”
“I was afraid of this,” Maggie shakes her head, “I think Chad is a great young man, but people can only handle so much, you know? I just hate that Melanie is blaming herself.”
Daniel sighs, “At this point, I would like to pack her up and move her far away from this whole situation. I had no idea things were this bad.”
“I didn’t either!” Maggie’s eyes widened, “I definitely didn’t expect that kind of behavior from Chad.”
“He threw the first punch,” Daniel nodded, “Philip held his own and was really calm until then. Unfortunately for Chad, there was a lot of anger building until that point. It was all unleashed on him.”
“I couldn’t believe it,” She crossed her arms, shaking her head, “When we walked out and saw them beating the tar out of each other like that…”
Daniel nods, opening his mouth to speak when their attention is drawn to Melanie’s door where Carly appears concerned.
“Daniel, I think you should get Dr. Connell…”
Maggie and Daniel exchange glances before he rushes to the phone at the nurse’s station.
