So excited to find an update...i loved it. Maggie and Carly had me tearing up. If i wasn't on my phone i would be quoting lines. I loved the part when Maggie talks about seeing her mother and Sara in Melanie. Sweet... I kind of have a secret goal to try and reduce peoples hatred of Daniel being Maggie's son, in this story. LOL. I probably won't succeed... but I can try! I don't mind Daniel being Maggie's son. I thought how they came up with it was a contrived...but the idea of Maggie having a child outside of Mickey, doesn't bother me at all. Gives her character an identity outside of being married to a Horton. So write on girl!

Chapter 42
Melanie had been driving since she left the coffee shop. She pulled in and out of the hospital parking lot, her dad’s apartment, Chez Rouge, and all over town, finally ending up in the driveway of the mansion. Her tears were unstoppable as she rested her head on the steering wheel and sobbed. She felt like the scum of the earth, like a person that does nothing but screw up everything in her life. It had been a character trait that she tried so hard to overcome- but now she was realizing that maybe she could never change.
She jumps when there is a knock at her window, she looks up, straining to see in the soft light of dusk. It’s Philip.
She puts her window down, “Hi.”
“Hi… Are you okay?” His face is riddled with concern. He stands leaning into the window, his suit jacket over his arm, the cuffs of his dress shirt rolled up, collar unbuttoned, in an attempt to relieve the summer heat.
“Yeah,” Melanie nods, “I’m fine.”
“Nice try…”
“I don’t want to talk about it… especially to you. I don’t need to hear again what a terrible person I am. I think I get the message now.”
“I would never say that,” Philip looks down, solemnly, “I’m sorry…”
“For what? You only said what you felt.” She shrugs.
“I never said you were a terrible person, because I don’t think that.”
Melanie looks up at him, “Could’ve fooled me.”
“Melanie, I am so sorry that I hurt your feelings. I was caught off guard and over reacted.” He sighs, “I hate seeing you like this.”
“It doesn’t matter,” She shrugs, wiping her tears, “I’ll be fine. It’ll pass.”
“Well, I feel responsible and I wish there was something I could do for you.”
Melanie shakes her head, “There isn’t anything anyone can do. I can’t even do anything. And this isn’t your fault.”
“I think it is…”
“It isn’t your fault. It’s mine. I just had to break Chad’s heart again. And funnily enough, he had some of the same things to say about me that you did.”
“I didn’t mean everything that I said. I was overreacting in the heat of the moment.”
“You just didn’t have time to sugar coat it.” She smiles through her tears, “I don’t blame you, Philip. Please, just leave me alone. I’ll be fine.”
He sighs, “I am not going to leave you alone out here when you are this upset.”
“I said I’ll be fine. I just want to be alone.” Her voice was solid, but weak.
Philip walks around the car and opens the passenger door, taking a seat inside. Melanie shakes her head, resting her elbow on the door and her head in her hand.
“It’s just such a waste, you know." She speaks softly, her emotions catching in her throat, "No matter how hard I try, I will never be the person that I want to be. Maybe people can’t change. Maybe you just are the way that you are and that is it? I will always be that girl… the one that can never make up her mind and breaks everybody’s heart.”
“No you aren’t. Melanie, I’m really sorry that I said those things. I didn’t mean it. You are a wonderful person. You have the biggest heart of anyone I know.” He pauses, “Except for maybe your grandma Maggie… but no one can compete with her.” He chuckles, looking over to see Melanie smiling through her tears, “A smile!”
“Thanks, Philip, but my heart isn’t the problem. It’s what I do with it that causes me trouble. I think my heart and my mind have a communication barrier or something. I don’t know… but they don't work very well together."
“Listen, Melanie, you follow your heart. That’s the most important thing. And as far as changing… you have changed immensely.” Philip shakes his head, “I should have never said any of those things to you. Here I am, coming back to town wanting to show everyone what a better person I am and how much I've changed and then I go and throw your past in your face.” He looks over at her, “You have plenty of material to do the same to me, but you won’t. I really am truly sorry.”
“Philip, I mean it when I say that I don’t blame you for how you reacted. Who wouldn't react that way after everything we've been through? Repeating history is never smart or worth it.” She shrugs, “And you were just being honest. I appreciate the honesty. I needed to hear it.”
“I did mean one thing that I said…” He pauses, meeting eyes with her, “I do love you and have never stopped. I hope you know that’s true.”
Melanie looks down, wiping a tear from her cheek; she nods, “I know it’s true. I love you too.”
“I’ve been thinking that maybe I was wrong to think that I should dismiss all possibility of a relationship with you…”
Melanie takes a deep breath, her tears catching in her throat, “When I told you I loved you, I didn’t expect for you to want to jump into a relationship with me, Philip.”
“I know.”
“To be honest, at this point, I don’t want to be in a relationship. I have so much on my plate right now, already. I can’t handle that.” She pauses, looking up at him, “I guess I really just needed to tell you how I felt.”
“And I’m really glad that you did… I felt the same way and I’m glad I told you, too.”
Melanie looks softly at him, nodding in agreement.
“You know, I was thinking, if you’re willing… Maybe we could try again?”
“Philip… I just told you I don’t-”
“No… Not like that.” He shakes his head, “Just as friends. I think it would be helpful if you and I kind of, worked together as friends to try and better ourselves. And learn to trust each other again. It’s comfortable being around you, Melanie. You understand me… I can talk to you about anything and you always know what to say.” He watches as Melanie looks up listening intently, her face softening at his words, “I would like it if we could maybe, form an alliance of sorts, and help each other out like only we know how. Just as friends. And I mean that… just friends.”
“Yeah,” She nods, “I think I would like that, too.” A small smile crosses her lips, “I need as many friends as possible.”
Philip smiles, taking hold of her hand firmly, “Good.”

How she is going to be just friends with a man that hot is beyond me!
I loved this though....you captured that kindred spiritedness that Philip and Melanie have...that shared understanding and acceptance. You got it so right.
The way you write Philip is the way I imagine him now in Chicago. Trying to be a better man for his son, tempered by all of his experiences, living a life that is filled with father and son moments. The end result of the maturation process he went through on the show is wonderfully illustrated in your story.

May or may not cause a problem in the near future. -Of everyone that Melanie has been with on the show- I see the best connection between her and Philip. Her love for him was so clearly illustrated the day that she gave him his ring back. It was so clear that she was going to love him forever- so it's only natural that now that he is back, they still have that connection. -I love writing the father/son moments between Parker and Philip. I'm sure there will be more to come once we get through some heavy Melanie stuff.

Any more pink apron scenes?
I don't think they can just be friends. Nice thought though. LOL.

I need to share this quote with all my Philip/Melanie buddies...they will love it. That scene when she gave back the rings killed me...tears, caressing his cheek, having to run out of the room....sigh.

I think Phillip and Melanie need to be friends for a little while anyway. They really never did the 'friendship' thing.

Chapter 43
At the Dimera Mansion, Stefano hands Chad a drink and motions for him to sit down as he is explaining his current situation.
“So, Melanie and I are no longer… simple as that.”
Stefano sighs, taking a drink, “I’m sorry, Chad… I know you cared about that girl.”
“I still do care about her. Obviously this wasn’t my choice!” His eyes are wide with fury.
He takes a deep breath, “So what about the child?”
“What do you mean what about it?”
“Well… have you given any thought to the custody arrangements?”
Chad shakes his head, “No… I mean, I made it clear to Melanie that I was going to be a part of my child’s life.”
“Your child will be growing up a Kiriakis…” Stefano’s face was stern and serious.
“No.” He shakes his head, “I mean… Melanie isn’t with Philip.”
“Really?” Stefano glares accusingly, “Isn’t she still living in the same house with him.”
“Yes. But she’s living there to be with her grandma… not Philip.”
“And you believe that?”
“That’s just what she said… besides, I know that I am going to be in my child’s life no matter what. Melanie would never keep her from me.” He takes a drink.
“Well, Chad, may I remind you that Elvis thought the same thing when dealing with Samantha and look at where that got him. I think it would be wise for you to take action to ensure that you will be a strong influence in your child’s life.”
“Melanie will be fair with a custody agreement… she isn’t like that.”
“But you need to be prepared.”
“What do you mean, take action?” Chad tilts his head in question.
Stefano raise an eyebrow, “You are dealing with a multi faceted situation, here, son. When there are Kiriakis’ involved you can never trust that things will turn out favorably for you. Melanie may say that she and Philip are not involved now, but you can never know the future. How would you feel if your daughter was being raised by Philip Kiriakis?”
“That isn’t going to happen…” He shook his head.
“You’re right, it isn’t,” Stefano leaned forward in his chair, “Because I am going to help you make sure of that. I’m sure Elvis will consult with you with the legal matters.”
Chad raised an eyebrow, “And how are you going to help?”
“I will be here to do whatever you need me to do.”
“Well I won’t need you to do anything.” Chad gets up and walks to the window, “I don’t want to hurt Melanie.”
“After the way she hurt you? You still are worried about hurting her feelings?” Stefano rose from his seat to meet Chad.
Chad turns to face his father, “She didn’t do it on purpose. I’m hurt… my feelings are hurt. What am I going to do about it?”
“You really think that Philip has nothing to do with this?”
“I don’t know,” He shrugs, “I would like to believe it.”
“But do you?” Stefano was inching his way into Chad’s brain.
Chad narrows his eyes, “What do you want me to say? That I don’t believe her and I don’t trust her and I am sure that she is breaking up with me to be with Philip? I can’t say that… I don’t know.”
“Regardless of how it might hurt you to admit it, you must be honest with yourself. In return, you must also make sure that you have the upper hand. You need to keep that child from Philip Kiriakis… even if it means keeping it away from Melanie as well.”
Chad looks away and gazes out the window, his eyes wide and weary at his father’s words.

I am not supposed to be here...I am polishing my own update but I couldn't resist.
I LOVE STEFANO!! School your son!
I cannot wait to see what the DiMera's do.... I hope Chad takes Stefano's advice and runs with it. I would love to see a Kiriakis Dimera feud start again with Maggie and Mel caught in the middle.

Love the Stefano and Chad interaction. I like Stefano giving Chad a reality check. I hope to see more of Stefano in the story.

I hope to see more of Stefano in the story too, but he is a hard character for me to write. I think it's because he is so strongly driven by the acting of joe mascolo on the show that I feel like I can't do him justice. Lol.

Well lately the show hasn't been doing justice to the character AT ALL, so anything you write will probably be an improvement!
