Chloe is sitting in an office with the older Asian man and the guard. She is in shock as she listens to Kate’s voice come over the speakerphone.
Chloe: I thought you were on death row.
Kate: Oh well, we escaped.
Chloe: “We?”
Kate: Yes, me and Victor. Hold on. ... Victor, would you like to speak to Chloe?
Victor: I certainly would. Hello, Chloe, nice to speak to you. How’s everything?
Chloe: This can’t be happening. The last thing the readers need is another kidnapping or prostitution story. This is a nightmare.
Kate: We’ve lived through a few nightmares ourselves. Like being penned up in Belize …
Victor: In a small room with Vivian and Gus.
Kate: Gus. Poor Gus. Although, he was pretty tasty.
Victor: And then there was the hurricane.
Kate: Oh yes, the hurricane. That was pretty harrowing.
Victor: Indeed it was. And then being brought back to the states, being put on trial, hearing damning testimony written by our son and by you …
Kate: Testimony that got us the death penalty.
Victor: That was fairly humiliating.
Kate: You knew we’d get our revenge, didn’t you?
Chloe: But … how did you escape? How could you escape from maximum security?
Kate: Maximum is a relative term, especially when you’re rich.
Victor: Hush Kate. "How" isn’t important, Chloe, and frankly, it’s the least of your worries. You see, you’re about to be sold into white slavery. But since you’re already a slut, your lifestyle won’t have to change much.
Chloe: No. No. You are not going to do this to me. You hear me? I won’t let you. And neither will Philip. I’m sure he’s launched a search for me and he’s on his way …
Chloe hears Victor and Kate laughing.
Kate: That’s rich. Isn’t that rich, Victor? No Chloe, Philip isn’t looking for you.
Chloe: Are you saying he was really trapped in that construction accident? I decided that was just a ruse to get me to trust that woman.
Victor: She’s smarter than she looks, Kate. ... You are right Chloe. Philip’s fine.
Chloe: Thank god.
Kate: Perfectly fine. But Philip’s not looking for you. We made sure of that, with the note you wrote him.
Chloe: What are you talking about?
Victor: Would you like to do the honors, Kate? Or shall I?
Kate: Oh, let me, please. ... Last night, Philip received a note from you, Chloe. It was even in your handwriting. It says:
Dear Philip,
This is probably the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do, but I’m leaving you and Wesley. I’ve met someone else and I tried to fight it but I can’t anymore. I know that you and Wesley will do fine without me and that’s the only reason I can do this. I’m sorry, Philip. Take care of each other.
Chloe

Victor: That note is a masterpiece, Kate. Short and to the point.
Kate: Why thank you Victor.

Escaped from Death Row. Why did Philip not get told about it??? You think it would be all over the news. I am wondering if that is how Philip gets a clue he is told about the escape. Loved the line about the last thing the readers need is another kidnapping and hooker storyline. Poor Gus what an ending for him. I wonder if they killed him or if he died naterally before they ate him. Thanks for the chapter Kpatch.

I was thinking the exact same thing about the escape djm! I can't believe that Victor & Kate have been missing long enough to orchestrate all of this and NO ONE knows about it.

Leave it to Kate and Victor to find a way out of Death Row. Poor Gus. Poor Chloe hearing that note has to be devastating. I can picture Kate being absolutely giddy as she read the note to Chloe.
