Chapter 22

ELEVATOR
Ceri and Sydney were now sitting on the floor of the elevator. Ceri was rocking back and forth. Sydney was sitting in front of her.
SYDNEY: What's your favorite movie?
CERI: What?
SYDNEY: What's one of your favorite movies?
CERI: I don't know....one of the Star Wars movies, I guess.
SYDNEY: Okay. Which trilogy is it from? Originals, prequels, or sequels?
CERI: Are you serious?! The prequels are an abomination! And the sequels are just...meh. Originals.
SYDNEY: Which of the originals is your favorite?
CERI: The Empire Strikes Back.
Slowly, Ceri stopped rocking back and forth. Her breathing became less heavy, also.
SYDNEY: I've never seen that one.
CERI: Really?
SYDNEY: Really. I've never really seen any of the Star Wars movies, except for the first one. And, by that I mean, the original one from 1977. So, I do know about Luke, Han, Leia, Chewie, 3PO, R2, and Vader. So, what happens in Empire Strikes Back?
CERI: A lot of stuff. Too much to describe without seeing it.
SYDNEY: Well, maybe we will see it. Wanna show it to me later?
Ceri nodded.
SYDNEY: Tell me about one of your favorite scenes.
CERI: Well...there's this one scene where Darth Vader is about to put Han in this kind of freezing sleeping chamber called Carbonite. And Leia and Chewbacca are there. And, just before Han's put in the Carbonite chamber, Leia says to him...I love you.
SYDNEY: I know.
Sydney and Ceri kissed.
CERI: Wait a minute.
SYDNEY: What?
CERI: You just made all that up, didn't you? About not seeing any Star Wars movies aside from the very first original one. You were trying to distract me from all this, weren't you?
SYDNEY: No, I didn't make up the part about not seeing any Star Wars movies. Honestly, the only Star Wars movie I've seen is the original 1977 movie.
CERI: Oh, it's just that you quoted a line from Empire Strikes Back.
SYDNEY: Did I?
CERI: When I said “I love you”, you said, “I know”.
SYDNEY: Gotcha. The reason behind me saying that is because, with everything that's happened with my parents, I've never been very good at admitting my feelings.
There was a loud clank. Ceri and Sydney both stood up. Ceri's breathing went back to being heavy.
CERI: Oh, god! Oh god! We're never gonna get out of here, are we?
Sydney signaled for Ceri to come closer to her. Ceri did and started crying into Sydney's shoulder.
SYDNEY: Of course we will. I know that we'll get out of here. I just talked to Grandma Marlena a little while ago. She's gonna find someone to get us out. We'll be fine.
Ceri started looking around. Sydney put her hands on Ceri's cheeks.
SYDNEY: Ssh. It's okay. Look at me. Ceri, look at me, sweetheart.
CERI (crying): I'm scared!
SYDNEY: I know, sweetheart. I know you're scared. But, it'll be okay. We'll be out of here soon. I promise. It'll be okay. Soon, it'll all be okay.
Ceri put her head back on Sydney:s shoulder and Sydney continued trying to comfort her.

Chapter 23

HOSPITAL - HALLWAY
PHILIP: Stephanie?
STEPHANIE: Yep, it's me. Hey, Philip.
PHILIP: What happened to your hair?
STEPHANIE; Oh, I was originally a redhead. But, then, when I was in college, I went through a rebellious phase. Dyed my hair brown, tanned a lot, got a bunch of plastic surgery done until I looked like a different person. But, after I left Salem, I got a really hard dose of reality. And, that made me go back to the way I used to look. I had all of the surgeries undone. And, it took a long time, but all of the dye finally came out of my hair. And, I decided to come back to Salem.
Stephanie hugged Melanie.
MELANIE: What was that?
STEPHANIE: A hug. That reality check I mentioned, it gave me a new outlook on life. I realized that I was doing things and saying things for all the wrong reasons. And, I promised myself that I would try to be a better person. So, that's part of why I came back to Salem, to make up for what I did. Starting now. Melanie, I'm sorry for all of the stuff I said and did to you all those years ago.
MELANIE: Well, I can hardly be counted as innocent in all of this. I mean, I did kind of steal Philip from you.
STEPHANIE: Yeah, but I went a bit overboard with the whole revenge plot. And, I'm sorry.
MELANIE: I'm sorry for everything that I did to you, too, Steph.

HOSPTIAL – PATIENT ROOM
Will, Lucas, and Allie were standing in a hospital room. Grace was lying in the bed. She was hooked up to a few machines, and currently sleeping. A nurse was looking over the machines.
NURSE: The sedative I gave her probably won't wear off for a couple of hours.
LUCAS: All right. Thank you.
The nurse left. A collective sigh made its way around the room.
ALLIE: So, what now?
WILL: We've gotta do something.
LUCAS: Do we?
WILL: Yeah. She might have been made by Johnny, but she's our responsibility now.
LUCAS: And, why's that?
WILL: Think about it, Dad. We're the closest thing she has to family.
LUCAS: No, we're not, Will. Now, she make look a lot like her, but she is not Sydney.
WILL: I know that. But, she is a human being. She can't help that she was a petri dish baby who was given accelerated growth hormones. She can't help any of where she comes from or who she is. I know that this whole thing started out with Johnny's intention of Sydney being the victim. And as much as I agree that she is a victim, I honestly believe that Grace is the biggest victim in all of this. Johnny decided that he would play god, just like his father and grandfather have done with our lives for as long as anyone can remember. But, I think we can turn this back on him. I think we can change Grace, make her one of us. Her life has only just begun, literally.
ALLIE: Well, we can't take her home. You saw how Sydney reacted at the party. Imagine what it would be like if we brought Grace home with us.
LUCAS: Allie's right. Even though she was just a baby when it happened, Sydney's been tortured by Grace and her father and brother's memories of Grace for her entire life.
WILL: I know. It wouldn't be fair to Sydney if Grace came home with you guys. But, I've been thinking about this, and I have an idea.
LUCAS: And, what's that?
WILL: It's when you have a thought about something you should do in a situation that doesn't present itself with any great options. But that's not important right now. What is important is my idea.
ALLIE: What's your idea?
WILL: Now, I'd have to talk to Sonny about this, of course. But, Sonny and I have both been thinking about having children. Now, for obvious reasons, the two of us together couldn't. So, I've been thinking, and if Sonny agrees, I'd like to adopt Grace and take her home with me.

Wow. I can't believe Will wants to adopt Grace. Ok that sounds really funny after watching the show Will and Grace. Lol.

That's certainly an interesting development. I wonder how Sonny and Sydney will react to Will's idea.

Chapter 24

HOSPITAL – PATIENT ROOM
LUCAS: Are you serious?
WILL: Very serious. I want to adopt Grace. If Sonny agrees to it, of course.
LUCAS: Well, I can see that we're going to run into the same problem here that we've run into with our last couple of options: Sydney.
ALLIE: Yeah, Will. I mean, after what happened tonight, I doubt that Sydney will ever want to go anywhere near Grace.
WILL: Well, I'll just have to work it out somehow.
WOMAN (VO) I have a solution to that.
Will, Allie, and Lucas turned around to see Mia and Chad walk in the door.
MIA: I'll take her.

ROMAN'S OFFICE
Johnny slowly got out of the seat he was in, walked over to Susan, and gave her the same awkward hug that you would give a Chuck-E-Cheese animatronic.
JOHNNY: Grandmother...how wonderful to see you.
SUSAN: Oh, I can't believe that after all these years I finally get to see my little grandson!
Johnny's poor excuse for an attempt at hugging were unsuccessful, as Susan gave her grandson a bear hug.
SUSAN: Oh, Commander Brady, thank you so much for tellin' me to come up here so I could see my grandson! You have no idea what this means to me! And now, little Johnny, you and me are gonna take a ride in one o' them big ol' fancy aeroplanes and see your grandaddy, Edmund. Doesn't that sound wonderful?
Johnny faked a smile.
JOHNNY: Sure. Sounds...great.
Johnny coughed.
JOHNNY: Um, grandmother, before you and I leave for England, I was wondering if I might be able to speak with my grandfather for a moment.
SUSAN: Sure, sweetheart. I'll be right outside.
Susan left the office. Roman was trying, unsuccessfully, to hide a smile.
JOHNNY: You called my grandmother?
ROMAN: Yep. Sure did. Turns out that she was in town visiting your Grandma Marlena, and had just enough time to stop and pick you up.
JOHNNY: Why would you do that?
ROMAN: Let's just say I have a soft spot for family. I didn't want to have to send my own grandson to jail. So, I thought of a different punishment.
JOHNNY: This isn't just punishment, this is torture! I'd rather go to juvie!
ROMAN: Well, unfortunately for you, Johnny, you don't have much of a say in that.
Susan walked back in the door.
SUSAN: Commander Brady, I'm really sorry to have to rush ya'l while yer sayin' goodbye to my little Johnny. But, if we don't start runnin' we're gonna miss our aeroplane.
ROMAN: I completely understand, Susan. Thank you for coming out here on such short notice.
SUSAN: Oh, it was no trouble at all. I'd do anything to see my little grandson again. For some reason, my little Elvis would never let me see him. Neither would his granddaddy Stefano or that mean, mean, mean mother of hers, Sami.
Roman coughed.
SUSAN: oh, I'm sorry. I fergot that she's yer daughter. Well, Johnny and I really gotta get goin'. Thanks again, Commander Brady!
ROMAN: Oh, no, thank you, Susan.
Susan and Johnny walked out the door.
SUSAN: And as soon as we get home, Edmund and I'll make you a peanut butter and nanner sanwhich. They were yer daddy's favorite food when he was yer age, as well as the real Elvis'.
Again, Roman tried to conceal a smile. Again, he was not successful.
