Kayla and Marlena discuss that Megan is alive and has taken a course in brainwashing. Kayla thinks they should scream again, but Marlena says that won’t do any good. They wonder what Megan has planned. They need to warn everyone before someone gets hurt.
Li continues his speech, promising to find the other prisms so they can be united and blaze a new trail for scientific progress. He invites Gabi onstage. Andrew whispers to Paul that he may have been wrong, if something was going to happen, it would have already. Gabi thanks everyone for coming, but her speech is interrupted by a scream. Everyone turns to see John and Steve grab Wendy. John holds a gun to her side and tells Li to hand over the prism or his sister dies.
Paul, Tripp and Joey try to reason with their fathers, but they refuse to let Wendy go until they have the prism. Li tries to call security, but they tell him they took care of security already and order Li to hand over the prism. Paul whispers they need to do something, and Andrew assures him that they will, when the time is right. Gabi convinces Li to hand over the prism. Before he does, he asks Wendy if she’s okay. Wendy tells him not to do it. Li hands the prism to John. Steve tells John to go. Holding his gun on various partygoers as he goes, John leaves. Li tells Steve to let Wendy go, but Steve says he needs a hostage. Tripp and Joey try to get him to take them instead. Kayla runs in, which distracts Steve long enough for Wendy to get out of his grasp. Joey and Tripp get into a scuffle with Steve, trying to hold him down.
John walks down a hallway but stops when he hears Marlena’s voice.
Joey and Tripp try to wrestle the gun from Steve. He drops it and Wendy picks it up, pointing it at him. Soon, the boys have Steve restrained. Andrew and Paul leave to find John. Kayla says she’ll help Steve and tells the boys that he and John have been brainwashed by Megan Hathaway. She tells them to pray that John doesn’t escape, it would be a disaster if Megan got all three prisms.
Marlena tries to get John to listen to her. She wants to help him. John tells her to stay away. Marlena tells him that they love each other, and he needs to come back to her. She holds out her hand, Andrew and Paul walk over. John pushes Marlena away and runs.
Li tells everyone that the police are on their way. He asks Wendy if she’s okay. Gabi thinks Wendy’s a bada**, and that Li is shaken up. Wendy agrees, since he’ll have to tell their father that he lost the prism. Li isn’t worried about the prism; he’s worried about her. He offers to take the gun, but Wendy tells him that the police will need to talk to the person in charge, him, so she’s got this covered. Li realizes he’s underestimated his sister. Steve tries to get his sons to release him. Kayla tells him he’s not thinking straight, but that she’s going to help him fix it. She tells him she loves him. Steve spits that he doesn’t care about any of them, his allegiance is to Megan.
Paul checks on Marlena. She’s fine but doesn’t know why John was brainwashed. Paul explains about the prisms. She tells Paul to go and find John.
Gabi tells Wendy, who’s still got the gun trained on Steve, that the guests have all gone back to their rooms and Li’s talking to the police. Joey and Kayla talk about how scary it is to see Steve like that. Kayla assures her son that she’s been through this before, they’ll get him help. Steve asks Tripp to ask his girlfriend to put down the gun. Tripp tells him Wendy’s not his girlfriend. Steve snarks that all of Tripp’s girlfriends leave him for someone else. Kayla instructs him to ignore Steve. Steve says he’s got a mission to complete. Tripp suggests they take him up to one of the rooms, and he and Joey drag him away with Kayla following.
Andrew tells Marlena that John got away. They tried to follow him but lost him in the chaos of everyone leaving the party. Joey and Tripp drag Steve into the room, where Paul demands to know where John is. Steve refuses to tell. Marlena says she’ll do anything to help him and John. Steve repeats that he only answers to Megan. Marlena stabs Steve in the arm with a syringe. She says it will help him cooperate.
The next morning, Steve is back to normal, but embarrassed about what he did. He apologizes to Wendy for holding him hostage. Wendy knows it wasn’t the real him. She tells him that he’s raised two cool sons. Marlena and Kayla walk in and Steve asks about John. They haven’t found him yet, but thanks to Steve’s information, they may soon.
Steve wants to head out to Caracas to help Andrew and Paul. Kayla can tell from that that Steve’s back to his old self. Steve needs to help. Kayla tells him he already has by revealing the location of Megan’s compound, now it’s time for him to relax. She tends to Steve’s wounds. Steve apologizes for tying her up, and Kayla tells him not to worry. She’s there to take care of him and give him anything he wants. Steve laments that he never got to eat his jalapeno and garlic pizza. Kayla asks him to put that on hold for a bit.
Wendy and Joey are playing Poker again in the mostly empty casino. She says that Steve seems cool when he’s not pointing a gun at her. Joey agrees that he’s usually better at making a first impression than that. They lay down their cards, and Wendy beats Joey. He tells her that he’s been going through the motions after getting released from prison, but this experience has given him life again. He’s decided to stop working at his sister’s PR firm and start doing things he’s passionate about. He asks if he could come visit Wendy in Alaska so they can get to know each other better. Wendy’s not sure that’s a good idea. Joey says it was a dumb thought, but Wendy thinks it was sweet. She starts to say that she would be interested, but stops there when Tripp walks in. Tripp surmises that Wendy shot Joey down, too. Wendy says they’re both great, she’s glad they met, but she doesn’t want to come between them. Joey and Tripp understand. Wendy tells them that she thinks they’re both a lot of fun and hot.

John and Marlena kiss. She wishes they had found Megan, but John says Shane and the ISA are on it. He asks if she’s ready to get back home to Salem and, hopefully, some quieter times. Marlena is, but it never seems to stay quiet for long. They’re glad to have each other to get through the rough times. John’s impressed and grateful that she flew halfway around the world to find him. Marlena tells him she’d fly all around the world to be with him. They kiss again.
Wendy gets texts from Tripp and Joey, both inviting her to come to Seattle. Li and Gabi tell her the car is here. Gabi hands her a folder, telling her they’re impressed with how she handled things last night and agree that her talents are being wasted in her current role. Li congratulates Wendy, telling her she’s earned herself a promotion. Li and Wendy hug.
