In early 2017, I posted a list of new and expanded characters that appear in my ongoing fanfiction, The Melaswen Paradox. Unfortunately, said list has not been updated since a few months after it was created. I was recently inspired to take another look at the guide and expand it to include characters who have either been introduced or returned since March of 2017 (and there have been MANY). Over the coming weeks, I will be rolling out the new version of the character guide in segments. I look forward to sharing it with you! |

First appearing in The Melaswen Paradox, Trix is the teenage daughter of Nicholas Alamain. She comes from Melbourne, VIC, Australia, and doesn't have the best relationship with her father. She soon develops a crush on Ciara, and though she comes on too strong to begin with, the two eventually become a couple.
First seen in the 1990s helping her identical quadruplet sister Susan, Sister Mary Moira returns to Salem when she joins the convent at St. Luke's. She currently helps Father Louis in various ways around the church.
Andrea first appeared in the Australian soap opera Neighbours, where she used her daughter, Willow, and her uncanny resemblance to a deceased wife of the town lawyer on that show to steal a large sum of money. She returns in The Melaswen Paradox, where it is revealed that Trix Alamain is also her daughter, with whom she does not always see eye-to-eye.
First appearing in Loves Labours, Alex is a student at Salem High. He is a friend to Claire, Ciara, Theo and Chase, and is dating Henri. He is also a member of the theatre group with Henri, Jade, Claire, Joey and Chase.
First seen in the 1990s helping his identical quadruplet sister, Susan, Thomas is a gangster. Susan had previously come to him to help her get her baby back after Kristen stole it, but Sister Mary Moira stopped Thomas before he could do anything sinful to Kristen. Thomas returns to Salem to find E.J., who, according to him, is not dead. He later shows up on Melaswen and goes on the run from the ISA. He is eventually caught after making a bad deal with André DiMera.
Willow first appeared in the Australian soap opera Neighbours. She returns in The Melaswen Paradox as Trix’s half-sister who visits after a series of bad wildfires in Australia in 2020. She and Trix are close, and she fits in well with the rest of the group. Willow goes back to Australia after finding out her mother and grandmother have done something bad to her step-parents. |

First appearing in The Melaswen Paradox, Mr. Canning is a teacher at Salem High. He originally comes from Australia, and leads a summer trip there one year.
Alex’s boyfriend, and a friend of Claire, Chase, Ciara, Theo and Joey. He was part of the theatre program in high school. After graduation, Henri and Alex left Salem together, but came back for Claire and Chase’s wedding.
First appearing in Loves Labours, Dean Faulkner is one of the Deans at Salem High. Announced the winner of the 2016 Last Blast Dance Competition.
Peter returns to Salem in Loves Labours under the guise of an Irishman named Aodh (Irish Gaelic for Hugh). As Hugh, Peter claims that he is the younger brother of an Irish crime syndicate the Clan Ó Faoláin (the Whelan Family). He kills the actual son of the crime syndicate before revealing himself. Peter later died when André blew up Melaswen.
First appearing in Fighting for Love, Addie is the 30 younger daughter of Tommy Horton. She, her father, and Scotty Banning come to Salem at Victor's request so that they can see if they are able to do anything to help Bo after it is discovered that he has a brain tumor. Addie is then hired as a doctor at Salem University Hospital.
Only seen a handful of times on the show, Dirk returns in The Melaswen Paradox as the father of Jade's baby. It is shown that he has very little interest in Jade at all, and that he and Joey are bitter rivals. For Halloween 2016, he dressed as a clown and tried to scare Chase, Ciara and Claire. He later tried to beat up Chase but was caught by Mr. Woods. It is later revealed that Dirk raped Jade, and he is eventually sent to jail for this. |

The Irish Bradys A group of characters introduced in 2021, though first hinted at in late 2020. While doing an ancestry report, Claire discovered that Shawn Brady Sr. had an uncle that very few ever knew about, and that his descendants still lived in Galway, Ireland. When Claire and Chase went on their honeymoon, they met this new side of the family.
A distant cousin of the Bradys who lives in Galway, Ireland. After looking over an ancestry report and finding out about a group of relatives who still live in Ireland, Claire finds contact information for Aisling, and the two start talking. Aisling’s parents were killed by an IRA bomb when she was very little, and she was raised by her grandfather. She works at a law firm. When Claire and Chase visit Ireland during their honeymoon, she is keen to meet them and show them around.
A distant cousin of the Bradys who lives in Galway, Ireland. He is the general manager of his family’s Brady Pub, which is not entirely dissimilar to the one in Salem. He will one day own it. He is given to telling long-winded stories which may or may not be true.
Eamon’s wife. Between the two of them, she is more likely to discipline their children when they get into trouble, but she has a good heart and can be very warm.
The eldest daughter of Eamon and McKenna. Kady is shown to have a very short temper, particularly when it comes to her sister. She is very dramatic, sometimes overly so. For a short while in 2021, she gets so tired of dealing with her sister that she runs away to Salem and takes up residency with Max and Chelsea at the Brady Pub. She is eventually convinced to go back home and deal with her sister. One of Kady’s passions is cooking, particularly baking, and she often helps in the kitchen of her grandfather’s Brady Pub.
The younger daughter of Eamon and McKenna. Ryleigh is mischievous and regularly attempts to annoy her older sister.
Aisling’s grandfather who raised her from an early age. Keir grew up hearing stories about Pete (Shawn Brady’s father) disowning his younger brother Padraig, which led to Keir having a dislike, or at the very least distrust, of anyone from Pete’s side of the family.
Keir’s older brother, father of Eamon, and owner of the Brady Pub in Galway, Ireland. Unlike his brother, Colm is very warm and inviting. He does his best to make his Pub have a family atmosphere. |

The New Royals Originally using the last name Faversham, Katalin is the long-lost twin granddaughter of Princess Gina. Katalin did not know this, however, until she was in her early 20s. Her father had been conceived via an affair between Gina and John Black, and adopted by Gina’s best friend, Lili Faversham. When Katalin and her sister were five years old, their parents were killed in a boating accident. Miss Faversham continued to raise them. Hope meets Katalin and her sister when searching for clues as to why André had Dr. Rolf brainwash Ciara (whom she is identical to) to believe she’s an evil version of Katalin. Unlike Fake Katalin, the real Katalin is a generally good person. She and her sister accompany Hope to Salem to help her return Ciara back to normal. After Ciara returns to herself, there is some tension between her and Katalin, and the two newly revealed royals return to Europe to find out more about their heritage. Katalin stays in touch with Claire, however, and invites her and Chase to her and her sister’s crowning ceremony in early 2022.

Pronounced “Maeve”, she is Katalin’s girlfriend, and the two are very close. Medbh is originally from Ireland, and her family is part of the Irish nobility, hence the title of “lady”. She is surprised to find out that her girlfriend is a princess, and even more surprised that Katalin and Emmaline are identical to Ciara and Claire. She sticks by her side, however, and the two later run into Claire and Chase while on a trip to Ireland. |

Yes, Kpatch, they are different characters. Emmy is Jade’s daughter, and (at the time of writing) is about 4 years old. The name Emmy is short for Emerald, as Jade wanted her daughter to be named after a gemstone like she was. Emmaline is the (up until last year secret) granddaughter of Princess Gina and John. As stated above, her father is Greta’s twin brother who she was separated from at birth. Emmaline is identical to Claire, and is in her early 20s. |

The "New" Hortons A group of characters introduced throughout the run of the story, all of whom are members of the Horton family, whether by blood or marriage.
Lily is the daughter of Sandy Horton. She is a physical therapist who came to town at the request of Victor Kiriakis after Ciara was shot by Princess Gina. Her relationship with Sandy starts off quite tense. Lily was very close to her grandfather, Tommy, and her Uncle Bill, both of whom Sandy blamed for her own mother's death. Thankfully, Sandy has mellowed a bit, and while still not where either of them would like it to be, their relationship has gotten better. Lily works in Salem University Hospital's Therapy Wing. She currently lives at the Horton home with her Uncle Bill and Aunt Marie.
Benny is the eldest daughter of Spencer Olson. She is a D.N.A. Diagnostician. We first met her when Nicole and Jade went to Chicago to see if they were really sisters (Nicole didn't trust the Salem University Hospital lab). She and her younger sister, Mattie, came to Salem for the 2019 Horton family reunion, and liked it so much that she decided to make her stay permanent. She currently works in the lab at University Hospital, and resides at the Martin House.
The younger daughter of Spencer Olson, Mattie is a minor league baseball player for the Salem Blue Jackets. She first came to Salem with her older sister, Benny, for the 2019 Horton family reunion. At the time, she played for a team in a suburb close to Chicago. A year later, she moved to Salem when she was transferred to their new baseball team. Like her sister, Mattie lives at the Martin House.
Technically not a new character, but she was last seen onscreen when she was six years old. Also, not technically a Horton, but her half-sister Sarah is, which makes her an honorary Horton. Noelle followed in her father's footsteps and became a doctor. Her specialty is Endocrinology, though she does have some surgical experience, as well. When she first returned to Salem, she was using the name Elle, but changed it after a few months, as she felt it didn't suit her. Like her sister, Noelle lives at the Kiriakis Mansion. |
