Ava asks why Rafe is looking at her like that. Rafe says he’s gotten to know her pretty well while she’s been staying there. He has the feeling there’s something she’s not telling him. He says it must have been horrible for her to find Charlie the way she did, but still thinks there’s another reason she’s stayed quiet for so long. She needs to tell him the rest. Ava’s afraid that Tripp did it. She tells Rafe about seeing Tripp leave as soon as she got to the apartment that night. Rafe asks if she’s talked to Tripp. She tried, but got interrupted by Nicole, who she told. Nicole told her to tell Rafe. He comments that Nicole’s the only one who thinks you should talk to the cops. Ava tells him that she was raised not to trust cops. Ava talks about getting her son back after so long. She’s terrified of losing him again. Rafe says that telling the truth doesn’t mean she’s handing Tripp over to the cops. Ava says it feels like it does. Rafe tells her that he was finally able to clear Sami and Allie once they told the truth, and that Ava seeing Tripp that night doesn’t mean he’s the killer. Ava talks about how the timing is weird. She saw Tripp leave, then she went in to see Charlie, who at that point was still alive. Rafe says they need to take this one step at a time, and reminds Ava that it’s innocent until proven guilty. Rafe has to question him, but promises to do everything he can to help. Rafe asks where he is, and Ava tells him about Tripp moving in with Steve and Kayla. Rafe says, “let’s go”, and gets up. See Converging at the Johnson's for more. Much later, they come back and Ava apologizes again. Rafe asks if she’s thought about why lying to the police is illegal, or how much she’s helped whoever the real killer is. Ava didn’t, because she was too busy thinking about the son she had left. She decides she’s going to a motel for the night, but Rafe tells her she doesn’t have to go anywhere, just stop apologizing. Ava offers to make him something to eat, but Rafe isn’t hungry and tells her to go to bed. Ava asks if he’s going to stay up working. Rafe says he is. And he plans to stick with hard evidence and give up on witnesses, because they lie. On the counter, we see an evidence bag with a red button in it.

I'm annoyed that Ava threw her son under the bus without getting the truth directly from Tripp. And I'm shocked that he's not pissed at Ava because he should be.

Thank goodness that is all cleared up. It really makes me mad that some people wanted to blame Nicole for giving good advice. Nicole has been a good friend to both Allie and Ava, and she kept Ava’s secret. Nicole also trusted Rafe to help if Ava told him the truth. She has been really helpful and a true friend, yet some views still try to make her the scape goat wanting to blame her for it.
