What is the length of time in the story from the current update to Philip waking up? I mean days or weeks not number of chapters or updates. Thanks Slyn. Philip will be back next week. YAY!! I think I'm grinning from ear to ear. Thanks Slyn. I'm looking forward to seeing the three generations of Kiriakis men in the next update.

Finishing up the last part of chapter 6. Will post before bed. Although my bedtime is in the realm of 4am, almost breakfast time for most people.

ABOUT THE LAST CHAPTER OF UNDERTOW & THINGS TO COME
Some spoilers of sorts below...be warned.
So with this update the first part of Undertow ends. The story will pick up again in Undertow 2: Uncharted Waters. I always had three "books" planned as I am writing this. It will become clear why, if you choose to continue to read. I am going to start a whole new thread for the next part of the story. Will post the link.
I have been perusing the board this afternoon. Interesting thread about triangles in the Nowadays section. I'm a fan of triangles. (couldn't you tell?) Very cool to read how others feel about that dramatic/romantic convention. The thread got me thinking about my own triangle that I am creating here in Undertow and how I am choosing to write it.
Basically I believe in fair fights...so I want every reader to leave knowing why each character feels the way they do. I want you to be able to see both sides, and understand how some choices are not so cut and dry. Philip has strong feelings for both women.
But for those that like to watch couples fight obstacles to stay together...you will get that too. Philip and Melanie are married and they have been forced to faced a lot in such a short time. Can their relationship survive all of this? And on the other hand Philip and Chloe are in a relationship too...a long running friendship. Can their relationship survive all the hits (some Philip doesn't even know about)? Can they transition to something more than friends? They failed at it in the past. So there is a struggle to maintain a lasting bond on both sides. See you can have it all in a triangle! Just need someone that loves and respects the idea of them to write the story.
I also like internal angst rather than external angst. So externally we have the car crash that put Philip in the coma, but what my characters will continue to face are the issues they create themselves, from their own insecurities, histories, impulsive choices etc. We have three very complicated characters forced to interact because of one little boy. And none of these three comes from what you can call a model family...so how are they going to make sure Parker has the best life?
Chloe: has to deal with her legal woes. Fight to regain her mental health, while also fighting to regain the rights to be a mother to her son. Then to further complicate matters, she is developing feelings at the worst time, for the worst person. Does she follow her heart or just focus on her future? Can she do both and still keep her sanity?
Philip: has to deal with his recovery, picking up the pieces of a life he has missed. He has to interpret and handle the changes that have occurred while he was in a coma. He now has a child with Chloe. That changes everything. He will be caught between two women that he cares about greatly, both need him. He will have to figure out what matters most and what he wants for his own life and for Parker.
Melanie: sacrificed so much to take care of Philip, now she is forced to consider whether it was worth it. What happens when the life she hoped she would have, doesn't turn out exactly as she dreamed? How does she deal with the fact that the family she's always wanted with her husband, now seems to be shifting over to someone else? She has so much life ahead of her, should she slow down and just be...young?

Thanks for all of the commentary Slyn. I love the hints at what's yet to come. It sounds like the next part will be even more amazing than the first part. I can hardly wait for it to begin.
I wonder how Melanie feels about Chloe and Parker being the ones to finally reach Philip. Obviously she has to be thrilled that he's waking up but I suspect there's a small part of her that resents Chloe of all people getting through to him. I took the end of the chapter as a hint of what's to come. I was really touched by Melanie allowing Chloe to spend time with both Parker and Philip. Also by the two women being able to put aside their animosity and put the needs of Parker and Philip ahead of their own. It was good of Chloe to set Melanie straight about her time with Philip at the Towers Hotel. It was a fantastic ending to part 1. Thanks for sharing this fabulous story with us Slyn.

LOL And yeah Chloe and Melanie have a small truce going, but don't expect it to last. There will be new reasons for resentment on both sides of this. I don;t envy Philip his place in the middle.

I took their truce as a brief period of detente mostly for Parker's benefit.

I am very excited for the next part because...PHILIP! LOL At LOOOOONG last! I found it very ironic that Philip had the world's best medical care from the doctors, best physical care from Melanie, the best money could buy from Victor, and all the while everyone worked very hard to keep Chloe out of Philip's room. They barred her from seeing him. And it wasn't the medical care, the physical care, or the financial care that brought Philip back. He came back when Chloe held his hand and talked to him and created a bond between Philip, Parker and herself. Makes me wonder if Philip would have woken up sooner if Chloe had been allowed to see him more often. I wonder whether Melanie will wonder about that.

Makes me wonder if Philip would have woken up sooner if Chloe had been allowed to see him more often. I wonder whether Melanie will wonder about that. Chloe wasn't actually barred from his room. She just didn't go see him that much. She was wrapped up in Daniel and being pregnant. It was only after she was arrested and put in the mental wing that she wasn't supposed to see Philip. She wasn't supposed to just wander around the hospital unattended. Ironically, when she became a patient too, is when she started visiting him more. Melanie has esteem issues and now a jealousy of Chloe, so you know somewhere in the back of her mind she will be thinking about how he woke up with Chloe. But at first she won't have all that much time to stew on that. Philip being awake actually means more work for her. A nurse's job is never done. The second part of this story deals heavily with the phloe connection and how Melanie handles it. And on the flip side how Chloe handles the "family" that Philip has with Melanie.

I didn't know that. Readers haven't been privvy to that time as yet. I was thinking about the time after she became a patient. She mentioned it a bit...the time she was pregnant...and back together with Daniel. It wasn't a big mention though. Easy to miss. And that was why she was telling Philip she should have come to visit him more in the last update.

I'm sure that none of the Kiriakis family other than Brady or maybe Justin wanted Chloe to visit Philip.

I'm sure that none of the Kiriakis family other than Brady or maybe Justin wanted Chloe to visit Philip. True they are not big fans. But really Chloe stayed away because of Daniel....trying to make things work. She will talk more about her pregnancy time soon.
