Chapter 27

SAMI & LUCAS' APARTMENT
There was a knock on the door. Lucas opened it.
LUCAS: What the hell are you doing here?
Susan walked in.
SUSAN: It's good to see you, too, Lucas.
Lucas and Susan laughed and hugged.
LUCAS: Dr. Susan Adamson. I haven't seen you since you got transferred to New York.
SUSAN: I know! It's been forever. And, actually, it's Susan Lambert now. Kevin and I got married.
LUCAS: Congratulations! And, how's the job in New York?
SUSAN: Great. They promoted me to head of the Department of Child Psychiatry last year.
LUCAS: That's awesome. So, what are you doing back in Salem?
SUSAN: Well, actually, Belle's mom called me.
LUCAS: Oh. And, I'm guessing she told you about Sydney?
SUSAN: Yeah. Speaking of which, is she around?
LUCAS: No, actually. She's at the Penthouse with Marlena.
SUSAN: Great.
LUCAS: So, do you think you can help Sydney?
SUSAN: Well, from what Marlena's told me, I think I might be able to. But, I'll keep you posted.

CHURCH – SWITZERLAND
Nicholas, Ceri, Rhiannon, Philip, and Melanie were standing in the back of a church. Philip was holding Melanie while Nicholas was holding both of his daughters. After a moment, Vivian, flanked, as usual, by Ivan, walked over.
VIVIAN: Oh, Nicholas, it was a marvelous service. Carly never looked better. And, that casket, ooh! I couldn't have picked a better one myself!
IVAN: And madame does have experience in picking out caskets.
Melanie balled one hand into a fist. Philip seemed to notice.
PHILIP (whispering): How about we go outside for a minute, Mel?
Philip and Melanie walked out.
NICHOLAS: Aunt Vivian, it's not that I'm not pleased to see you or anything, but why are you here?
VIVIAN: Well, where else would I be today, darling? When I heard the news, I just had to come and see it for myself.
Vivian looked at Ceri and Rhiannon.
VIVIAN: And these must be your daughters. Hello, girls. I'm your Great-Great Auntie Vivian.
Vivian chuckled. The twins tried, unsuccessfully, to hide behind their father.
VIVIAN: Well, I can see that they get their good looks from my side of the family.
Ivan tapped Vivian on the shoulder.
IVAN: Madame, I don't wish to interrupt this family moment, but we must be going if we are to catch our plane.
VIVIAN: Ah, of course. Well, it's been good to see you, Nicholas. Tell Mildred, or whatever your sister's name is, that I send my love. Ta ta.
Vivian and Ivan left.
CERI: She scares me. I don't get scared that easily, but she scares me.
RHIANNON: Me too.
NICHOLAS: Well, I had to grow up thinking she was my mother. If you think she's scary as an aunt, imagine what she's like as a mother.

*Just so everybody is clear, the Susan referred to in this story is Susan Adamson, one of the girls that went to Salem High with Shawn-D, Belle, Philip, Jan, etc.

I really like seeing Susan again. She was a surprise. I hope she can help Sydney. That was classic Vivian wanting to see Carly in her casket. I'm sure she wouldn't have missed that moment for the world.

I still don't remember Susan.... the only Susan I remember is EJ's mom!

I just knew Vivian would enjoy Carly's funeral like this...

Who wouldn't be afraid of Vivian. Ew, poor girls. But LOL at Vivian being giddy over Carly's death. Love Ivan's line about the casket!

Chapter 28

PENTHOUSE
Susan and Marlena were talking in the living room of the Penthouse.
SUSAN: Well, Dr. Evans, I've looked over all of the files, and I've talked to Sydney myself. Your diagnosis is correct. It's DID.
MARLENA: Yeah, I know that. But, I was wondering if you know of anything that might be of some help to her?
Susan sighed.
SUSAN: Well, as you know, there's no cure for DID, since it's a disorder, not an illness.
MARLENA: Yes, of course.
SUSAN: But, there is a new treatment that I've heard of. It's experimental, but it seems all right. It has been tested on other people with the same disorder as Sydney, and there's a 90% success rate.
MARLENA: And the other 10%?
SUSAN: Immunity. The 10% were immune to the treatment.
MARLENA: 90% success, 10% immunity.
SUSAN: The odds are good. I've seen cases exactly like your granddaughter's and they've responded well to the treatment. It's only the really severe cases, with up to five or six different personalities that the treatment didn't work. And, on the off chance that it doesn't work, there aren't any side effects. She'll just continue to be the same as she is without the treatment at all.
Marlena sighed and thought for a moment.
MARLENA: Well, it's a risk I'm willing to take.
SUSAN: Okay. Then, I will write out a prescription for it.
Susan got out a pad of paper, wrote on it, ripped a piece off, and handed it to Marlena.
SUSAN: Also, I was wondering, are Belle and Shawn in town? I haven't seen them since the 20-year reunion, and I'd really love to see them again.
MARLENA: Yes, they still live in town, and I'm sure they'd be delighted to see you again. You know, I remember when Belle was younger and she'd have sleepovers with you, Penny, and Mimi. Those were the days. Anyhow, Shawn's taken over the Brady Pub since his grandmother, Caroline, passed away a few years ago. If you go there, you should find them.
SUSAN: Great. Thanks, Dr. Evans.
Marlena and Susan hugged.
MARLENA: Well, thank you for coming out here on such short notice, Susan.
SUSAN: You're welcome. I really hope it all works out with Sydney.
MARLENA: Thank you. Have fun with Shawn and Belle.
SUSAN: Thanks.
Susan walked out.

OUTSIDE THE PENTHOUSE
Sydney and John were sitting on the terrace outside the Penthouse.
SYDNEY: Grandpa?
JOHN: Yeah, kid?
SYDNEY: How come I'm not normal?
John cocked his eyebrow up.
JOHN: Normal? What do you qualify as normal?
SYDNEY: You know, like you and Grandma.
John chuckled slightly.
JOHN: Sweetheart, we're nowhere close to normal. In my life, I've been almost a dozen different people. I've had my memory wiped at least twice. I've been on the verge of death. I've been married for years on end without realizing it. And, you're Grandma's been possessed by the Devil and died and come back to life. I don't think there is such a thing as normal in Salem.
SYDNEY: I don't wanna feel this way anymore. I wish none of this had ever happened.
JOHN: Hey, come here.
Sydney walked over to John. John put his arms around his granddaughter.
JOHN: It sucks that it happened. But, it'll be okay. We'll get through this. But, I don't ever want you to feel like you're alone. Because, you're not. You've got me, and your brothers and sister, and Lucas, and your grandmother and your mother. We're all here for you every step of the way. And, that's a fact.

Terrific chapter Andre... and that's a fact! I loved John mentioning all of the craziness that he and Marlena have experienced over the years. He's right...they aren't normal.
