Who watches Blue Bloods? It's one of my favorite series.
Who saw the season finale on Friday (May 11th) and what did you think?

I am thrilled that Jamie and Eddie are finally together, though I was a little confused... Was the engagement announcement the same day or a while later? It felt kind of rushed but I can't wait to see their relationship continue to develop next season. Plus, this season Jamie has been shoved into the background way too much so I'm hoping that this means we will see a lot more of him next season.
I was shocked the DA was killed. (The same actress plays the medical examiner on SVU, which is also set in NYC so I couldn't help thinking her other character would be examining the body. Lol) I would have liked to have seen more of Erin's grief over her death, but I really liked that they actually had an umbrella story rather than each member of the family having a different case!
Oh, and Danny talking to Linda's grave at the beginning brought tears to my eyes.

I was so disappointed in the engagement. Jamie and Eddie have been partners for what? Five years? Maybe more? They've had years of build-up and this on-again-off-again relationship, fighting their feelings, dating other people. Then boom. They're engaged. And the professions of love and the proposal happens off-screen? I was furious. I can only hope we'll get some flashbacks but I doubt it. They did the same thing when Linda died. It happened offscreen and we hear about it during Danny's counseling session. This is the same kind of lazy writing we get from DAYS. I expected better from Blue Bloods. heroicmuse, I didn't know the DA was played by the same actress as the one on SVU (probably because I rarely watch SVU). That's pretty amusing. |

Kpatch I wasn't nearly as bothered by the way Linda's death was handled because the way it was revealed was powerful. But I thought this was rushed. I also think Jamie has got the short shrift storywise all season. Half the time his story evaporated mid episode or he didn't appear at all except at the family dinner. IMO this rushed engagement is a symptom of that problem.

I love Blue Bloods and have watched it from day one.
I'm okay with how we found out about the engagement because it makes me feel like part of the rest of the family. I like them pointing out the flaw in the regulations and look forward to the issues this will bring.

I like the series but I get a little annoyed at the way "the guys" treat Erin. I feel that she always has to defend her choices to her grandfather, father and Danny. I guess it is just par to being the girl in a testosterone laden family.

I really wanted to see a little mushiness between Eddy and Jamie after watching and waiting for years. I feel cheated. I know it's not a romance but still.
I'm guessing the show wanted to get Jamie engaged so they could replace Linda at the dinner table. Eddy will now fill that role.

Last night's episode (June 8) had so much violence that it literally gave me nightmares. I know it's a cop shop but it's normally more cerebral than last night's episode. It was awful.

I was watching last night and I'm still annoyed at the important moments that happened offscreen — Linda's death, Jamie and Eddy's engagement. Days has done this too and it's a huge disservice to viewers.

I noticed the change in story-telling and continuity last season. I'm wondering if this might be the final season. Based on last season, I'm ready for the to show wrap up. If it doesn't, I might just give up on it anyway.

Last season, they kept either not having Jamie on screen or starting a story and then not finishing it (e.g. Jamie getting suspended, his feud with Frank over not wanting to take the sergeant's exam etc). The story would just evaporate. It was annoying and I hope they don't do that anymore this season.

Did anyone watch the season opener? I love the show and was really looking forward to it. I don't know why but it fell flat for me. The actors seemed disinterested. This new romance/engagement between Eddie and Jamie was nonexistent. It almost seemed like the actors are tired of the show.

I thought the season premiere was great. Loved Eddie's sarcastic comment that the guy who set the fire must have been forced to have dinner with his fiance's family and how she and Jamie weren't on the same page about how to deal with Frank.
The family.dinner scene with all.its conflicts was good and I liked Henry's advice to Frank.
Erin's new boss is annoying but I like that now that she has this promotion she's more worried about it looking like she's giving special treatment to her brothers than she used to.
Danny is my least favorite and I wasn't surprised he botched the case as usual with his ignoring the rules. I was glad we finally found out who was behind Linda's death though. I thought it made no sense that this invincible guy was killed even if Danny did make him seem like a snitch.
I was disappointed that Jamie gave in and took the sergeants exam. I'd rather see him and Eddie fight it out with Frank.
But overall I loved it. A-

There was an interesting article in our local paper today. I think it's subscription only so I won't bother to link it, but it was about the NYPD consultant they use on set and what he does to help ensure the show is realistic.
Some highlights:
All the actors have received the same firearms training that real cops do and they run scripts by him and he attends rehearsals of arrest scenes to help them understand what a real cop would do and what a real suspect might think or do.
The show has licensed real NYPD uniforms and vehicles and the only difference between their set and the real NYPD is they don't have the same computers.
The actors are required to remove their uniforms if they go off set for a coffee break (even Tom Selleck) so that they aren't mistaken for real cops. Also they have a cop on set whenever they are filming to ensure members of the public don't mistake the actors for real cops and try to ask them for help.
