Chapter 1 WHITE ROOM Jan is standing in a white room. JAN (narrating, voice only): My name is Jan Britney Brady. I was just shot by a mad man. And I have no idea where I am. Jan looked around and saw a man standing in front of her. MAN: Hello, Jan Spears. JAN: Where am I? Who are you? How do you know my name? MAN: I am a member of a race known as the Guardians. JAN: What's that? MAN: A race of beings that can see all of time. Everything that ever happened, is happening, and all of the choices that could be happening. Technically, I am not supposed to get involved. However, this is an important moment in your life. The most important moment in your life. You have a choice to make. Two different options are available for you. Which one will you choose? JAN: What are my choices? MAN: Choice A or Choice B. Which one will you choose? JAN (VO, narrating): I wanted to say no. I wanted to tell this Guardian, whoever he is, that he couldn't make me choose. I wanted to... There is a bright flash of light and everything goes black... ST. LUKE'S A church service has just let out. Shawn-D, dressed in black and holding baby Shauna, is talking to Belle. SHAWN-D: Thanks for coming. I know you didn't like her, but it means a lot to me that you came. BELLE: No problem. SHAWN-D: So, how's Philip? BELLE: He's fine. But, I don't want to talk about Philip right now. I want to talk about you. How are you? You hangin' in there? SHAWN-D: Yeah. Trying to, at least. It's just a little weird. They still haven't caught Mendez yet. BELLE: They know it was Paul? SHAWN-D: Yeah. During the autopsy, the doctors found out that, not only was Jan killed, Paul Mendez raped her again before killing her. BELLE: That's horrible! SHAWN-D: Yeah. I just...I can't help thinking what would have happened if I had stayed home last weekend. If only I had been there... Belle wrapped her arms around Shawn-D. |

Chapter 2 THE PIER It had been a few weeks since Jan was murdered. Bo, Hope, and Shawn-D walked onto the pier. A look of amazement crept onto Shawn-D's face. In front of the three was a beautiful boat. SHAWN-D: What is this? BO: It's a boat, Shawn. What's it look like? SHAWN-D: No, I know that. But, what's her name? HOPE: The Fancy Face VI. SHAWN-D: She's amazing. BO: Wanna go on deck and take her for a spin? FANCY FACE VI Shawn-D, Bo, and Hope walked onto the deck of the Fancy Face VI. There, waiting for them, were three tables, each with two seats. At one of the tables was Philip and Melanie. At the other, was Belle with an empty seat across from her. The third table was completely empty. Bo started the ship sailing. Soon, it was out of the pier and into the ocean. BO: Take a seat. Shawn-D didn't move. Bo and Hope went over to a small radio and turned it on. They then sat down. As there were no other seats, Shawn-D sat down across the table from Belle. To hear the song that is playing on the radio, go here: SHAWN-D: So... BELLE: So... SHAWN-D: Well, this is interesting. BELLE: Yeah. I think your parents are trying to be matchmakers. SHAWN-D: Yeah. BELLE: Well, it's too bad that it won't happen. You're not interested. SHAWN-D: Not interested? Belle, how can you say that I'm not interested? BELLE: If you were, why did you sleep with Jan? Shawn-D thought about it. SHAWN-D: I don't know. I...I guess I just wasn't thinking. You had just left, Jan was there, and I guess I just lost my mind. BELLE: Well, with Jan around, I'm not surprised. SHAWN-D: So, what about you and Philip, then? BELLE: I was vulnerable. He was there. I guess neither of us were really thinking. SHAWN-D: I did love you, you know. I still do. Belle, I love you more than I love anything or anyone else in the world. Even more than I loved Jan. |
