SALEM HIGH SCHOOL
CLICK HERE to listen to the music that’s playing.
The dance contest was in full swing. As they had agreed to, Sydney and Silver had signed up together. As the music thumped through the speakers, they and all of their fellow students danced. Occasionally, one of the teachers would tap a couple on the back, signifying that they were out. It was down to three couples when Sydney felt a tap on her shoulder. The girls sighed and took a seat on the bleachers.
SILVER: Well, that was fun while it lasted.
SYDNEY: It was. Plus, we can still dance to other songs after the contest is over.
Silver nodded. They watched the final two couples, and clapped when the winner was announced at the end of the song.
SYDNEY: They were really good!
SILVER: Totally!
A new song started.

SYDNEY: Wanna dance?
SILVER: That’d be great.
The girls went back to the dance floor, put their arms around each other and began to dance.
SILVER: I’m having a really great time tonight.
SYDNEY: Me too! I’m glad we came together, as friends.
SILVER: Same here.
SYDNEY: So…I found out something relatively recently.
SILVER: Oh? What’s up?
SYDNEY: You know I’ve been taking that human sexuality class?
SILVER: Yeah, totally.
SYDNEY: Well, a couple weeks ago, we were covering this one topic, and it led to me finally figuring out why it is that I’m not attracted to anybody.
SILVER: Really?
SYDNEY: I’m asexual. I love people as people, but I don’t feel any kind of attraction to them.
Silver hugged Sydney.
SILVER: Thanks for telling me.
SYDNEY: Well, you’re my best friend, I tell you everything.
SILVER: Still, I’m glad you figured it out.
SYDNEY: I just want you to know, this doesn’t change anything.
SILVER: I didn’t think it would. You and me, we’re best friends. We love each other, as friends.
SYDNEY: Exactly. Thanks for understanding.
SILVER: You’re welcome.
As the song came to an end, the girls went back to their table.
SYDNEY: So, the last couple of summers, a bunch of my cousins and I have gone on a camping trip. It’s usually not until the end of summer, and with all the stuff going on with my cousin Claire, who normally organizes it, who knows what’ll happen. But, I was thinking, if it does happen, did you wanna come?
SILVER: Really? I wouldn’t be intruding or anything?
SYDNEY: Of course not. I know I said it was my cousins, but they usually bring their friends. So did Johnny and Allie when we went last year.
SILVER: Well, that sounds awesome! I’d love to!
SYDNEY: Cool! When I find out when it’s happening, I’ll let you know!
SILVER: Sweet! I can’t wait for this summer! Not just because of that, but I’m sure there’ll be other stuff that we’ll do over the break.
SYDNEY: Yeah, totally! And, me too! I have a feeling this summer is gonna be great!
After a few more songs, Mr. Woods took the microphone and stood on the makeshift stage at the front of the gym.
WOODS: Is everyone having a good time tonight?
The students cheered. Mr. Woods chuckled.
WOODS: Excellent! You know, the Last Blast Dance is something I look forward to every year. After all of the assignments, the tests, the projects, it’s a good opportunity for students to come together and have a night of fun to start off their summer break. Now, unfortunately, it’s getting to be late in the evening, so we’re going to be wrapping up with one final song. So, find yourselves a partner, and have a great night! Seniors, I will be seeing you tomorrow, everyone else, enjoy your summer break!
The final song began.

SYDNEY: Oh, this is awesome! Let’s dance!
Sydney and Silver took each other’s hand and joined their fellow students on the dance floor.
SHAWN-D & BELLE’S HOUSE
Shawn-D and Belle laid in bed, Belle’s head on Shawn-D’s chest.
SHAWN-D: So, how’re you feeling now?
BELLE: So much better! Thank you for this. You always know how to help me relax.
SHAWN-D: I’m glad.
They kissed. Belle yawned.
BELLE: This has been a really nice way to end the night. But, now we should probably get some sleep. Big day tomorrow.
SHAWN-D: That it is. Good night, Mrs. Brady.
BELLE: Good night, Mr. Brady.
They kissed again. Belle wrapped her arms around Shawn-D, who put one arm around her, and reached over to turn out the light.
