SALEM INN
Theresa zipped up her boots. Jeremy observed her from the bed.
JEREMY: So...are we gonna talk about this?
THERESA: Nope, because there’s nothing to talk about.
JEREMY: You sure?
THERESA: Yeah, I’m sure.
JEREMY: Okay, ‘cause-
THERESA: Look, last night was fun. It was a nice distraction from all of the crap going on in my life, but that’s all it was.
JEREMY: Wow, I feel special.
THERESA: It’s not you, it’s me. And I know that sounds like a line, but it’s the truth. I just lost my husband recently, in more ways than one. Ever since then, I’ve been trying to keep it together for my son who just lost his father. Last night was the first time in a while I’ve had something approaching a good time. But, it’s not something I can, or even want to do regularly.
JEREMY: Well, damn.
THERESA: Look, Jeremy, you seem like a decent guy But this isn’t gonna happen again, and we really don’t need to talk about it any more. If we happen to run into each other again, awesome, but let’s not make this more than it is.
JEREMY: Okay, then. If that’s the way you feel.
THERESA: Thanks for understanding.
Theresa put on her coat and walked out. Jeremy sighed and laid back down on the bed.
DIMERA MANSION
LUNA: He what?
Gemma had just updated her sisters about the confrontation with E.J. from the night before.
BRIA: When were you going to tell us about this?
GEMMA: I told you now. That is the important part.
Luna started pacing.
LUNA: This is bad! This is really bad!
BRIA: Oh, calm down, Luna.
LUNA: Calm down? You expect me to be calm when we’ve just been found out?
BRIA: Look, at least it wasn’t André who found us out.
GEMMA: That may be, but Luna’s right to be concerned. It may have been only E.J. who found us out, but he told me that André suspected us, as well. If E.J. was able to figure us out, André likely did, as well.
BRIA: You think that would have been better?
GEMMA: Not necessarily, but at least we’d have some idea of what might happen. We’d likely either have been killed again, brainwashed, or kept on ice for future purposes. With E.J., who knows?
BRIA: Did he not say that he wouldn’t be doing anything? That’s what you told us, I thought.
GEMMA: He did. But there was something about the way he said it. It was as if it were a threat.
LUNA: We’re doomed.
HUDSON STREET DINER
Chloe and Brady were having breakfast.
CHLOE: Thanks for meeting me.
BRADY: I’m always happy to.
CHLOE: I thought meeting on neutral ground might be the best solution until we get things figured out.
BRADY: That makes sense. I, uh, I actually kind of got the ball rolling. I spoke to a lawyer.
CHLOE: Brady!
BRADY: I just had a few questions that I wanted to ask about this whole situation, whether we’re still married or not.
CHLOE: Please tell me you didn’t talk to Justin about this.
BRADY: No, I talked to Aiden Jennings, like you suggested. Anyway, what’s wrong with Justin? From what I remember, he was a really good lawyer.
CHLOE: He was, back then. Then he became D.A. and was on a massive power trip. When he lost his shot at a second term, it kind of humbled him and he's gone back to being a good person, so there’s that. My comment wasn’t about his legal skills, though, it was about the massive conflict of interests, with him being your cousin.
BRADY: Aiden’s married to Aunt Hope, isn’t that a conflict of interests?
CHLOE: Not necessarily. Sure, he’s indirectly related to you, but he doesn’t know you all that well on a personal, familial level. Plus, he’s less likely to play favorites.
BRADY: I’m glad I went with him, then.
CHLOE: So am I, even though I do wish you had waited so we could talk to him together.
BRADY: Well, if it helps, he didn’t really have a straight answer for me when I spoke to him. He said this was a unique case, and he’d have to do some digging.
CHLOE: Good to know. Did he say when he might know?
BRADY: No, but he did say that it would hopefully be soon.
SALEM P.D.
Rafe and Shawn-D were in Rafe’s office.
RAFE: What have you got so far?
SHAWN-D: Unfortunately, only one very unlikely suspect.
RAFE: What makes them unlikely?
SHAWN-D: According to my Mom’s notes when she interviewed Meadow West, the suspect doesn’t live in the area anymore. She went to college out of state.
RAFE: She could’ve come back for a visit.
SHAWN-D: It’d be a pretty quick visit, wouldn’t it? Pop in, pop out. Not saying it’s not possible, just unlikely. Anyway, according to Meadow West, the suspect doesn’t have a history of violence.
RAFE: Unfortunately, she’s all we’ve got at the moment. We’ll have to call her in. You got her information?
SHAWN-D: Yep. Meadow Victoria Shaw. Age: 18. Minor history of bullying in high school, but nothing so severe that it wasn’t taken care of by guidance counselors. We also have her last known phone number.
RAFE: That’s a good place to start. Let’s make that call, see what we can find.
ALAMAIN MANSION
Vivian sat in the dining room, sipping a cup of tea. Ivan walked in.
IVAN: You have a visitor, Madame.
VIVIAN: What, already? I didn’t think I had anything scheduled this early.
IVAN; You didn’t. However, he is most insistent.
VIVIAN: Oh fine. Send him in.
Ivan walked out, but came back a moment later with E.J. Vivian stood up.
VIVIAN: Elvis, how lovely to see you again!
E.J.: Let’s skip the pleasantries and get down to business, Vivian.
VIVIAN: Must we?
E.J.: Oh, I believe so. I finally worked out what you’ve been doing!
