BRADY PUB
Shane met up with Kimberly and the two were eating lunch.
KIMBERLY: How’d things go?
SHANE: They’re progressing, at least. John, Steve and Billie are onboard, and I’ve called in another agent to come up after we’ve left tomorrow. Speaking of which, how’d it go with Theresa?
KIMBERLY: How do you think?
SHANE: She took it that well, eh?
KIMBERLY: She is furious, Shane. And honestly, part of me doesn’t blame her. I mean, she’s spent so much time away from Tate already, it only makes sense that she wouldn’t be willing to part with him again after only a few weeks.
SHANE: That’s a good point. And you don’t think there’s any way she’d come back with us?
KIMBERLY: After the practical shouting match we had a little while ago, I highly doubt it. Shane, we need to tell her. If nothing else, for her own safety.
SHANE: I know. I know. I’ve been hoping to wait for the right moment but, let’s be honest, there’s never gonna be a right moment for something like this, is there?
KIMBERLY: Not one that I can see.
SHANE: All right. I’ll talk to her, then. Right after I finish this lovely lunch with my beautiful wife.
Shane and Kimberly kissed.
SALEM PLACE
Joey and Alanis walked outside of the mall, each had a cup of hot apple cider in hand.
ALANIS: Thanks for staying over last night.
JOEY: No problem. Your couch is actually pretty comfy. How are you doing?
Alanis shrugged.
ALANIS: A little better than yesterday. I shouldn’t have gotten my hopes up, I know I shouldn’t.
JOEY: Hey, it happens. Anyone would be disappointed when something like that happens.
ALANIS: I guess. Thanks for everything lately. I’m sorry to keep going on and on about my relationship with my Dad.
JOEY: You’re not going on and on about it, and I’d still be here for you even if you were.
ALANIS: Thanks. You’re really sweet.
Joey and Alanis linked their free arms together.
JOEY: So, what do you want to do today? Pick anything, whatever you feel like.
ALANIS: Well, the snow is beautiful right now, and over New Years, I noticed that the pond by the Square is open for ice skating. Ever been?
JOEY: I have a few times. You wanna go?
ALANIS: I’d have to get my skates.
JOEY: So would I.
ALANIS: Let’s do it!
JOEY: Lead the way.
They took each other by the hand and walked back to the car.
JOEY (thinking): How exactly am I gonna tell her about my history with her dad?
SALEM HIGH SCHOOL
Johnny was putting some books in his locker. His friend Tristan was nearby and, after closing his locker, Johnny walked over.
JOHNNY: Looks like you were wrong.
TRISTAN: How’s that?
JOHNNY: About me and your sister. We’re not together, not yet, anyway, but I’m in with her and her friends.
TRISTAN: Oh yeah?
JOHNNY: Yep. Something about that party must have worked.
TRISTAN: Well, good on you, man. I just hope it’s worth it.
Tristan closed his locker and walked away.
