Chapter 518
SALEM UNIVERSITY
Claire, Ciara and Trix walked down the hall of the girls dormitory, their arms full of suitcases. As they walked through the hall, they saw a couple making out and tried their best to squeeze passed them.
CIARA: I can’t believe we’re being split up.
CLAIRE: Me either. But, at least we’re all in the same hall, and near the entrance, there’s a common room where we can hang out.
Shawn-D, Belle, Hope and Carly followed the teens. They, too, were carrying suitcases.
BELLE: Claire, which one’s yours, honey?
Claire pointed to a room up ahead.
CLAIRE: Right here.
She turned back to her friends.
CLAIRE: I’ll see you guys once I’ve got my room set up.
CIARA: Sounds good.
TRIX: Good luck, mate.
CLAIRE: Thanks.
Claire opened the door, which had a post-it note that read “C. Brady & A. Monk”, and went inside. Whoever A. Monk was, it was clear that she had gotten here earlier, as half of the room was already taken up with someone’s belongings.
BELLE: Well, this looks nice.
Claire nodded.
CLAIRE: It should be.
SHAWN-D: I’ll be back in a minute. Just wanna get the rest of your things.
Shawn-D left as Claire and Belle began setting up the room. By the time he returned, they had made the bed, had put Claire’s guitar case in a corner, and Claire was currently putting clothes in her dresser.
SHAWN-D: Well, here we are. That’s the last of it.
Shawn-D put a few boxes on the bed.
BELLE: You’re sure you don’t need anything else?
CLAIRE: No, that’s okay. I’ve got it from here. Thank you both so much for helping me bring my stuff, and helping me set things up.
Claire hugged her parents.
SHAWN-D: No problem, Claire Bear. Have a good time.
BELLE: And call anytime you need anything. Or want to.
CLAIRE: I will. I love you guys.
SHAWN-D: We love you, too.
BELLE: Good luck, honey.
Claire kissed both her parents on the cheek and hugged them both one last time.
CLAIRE: I’ll see you guys soon.
Shawn-D and Belle left the room as Claire continued organizing her things. After a little while, she had unpacked most of her boxes and had her half of the room organized the way she wanted it. She opened the guitar case, pulled out her guitar, sat down on the bed, and began strumming softly. She didn’t even notice that another girl had walked in until she spoke.
GIRL: You play?
Claire stopped strumming and looked up. The girl in front of her had to be in her early 20s. She was pretty, with brown hair and a pleasant face.
CLAIRE: Yeah, I do. You?
GIRL: Totally! That’s awesome! I’m so glad we’re roomies, then! I love music!
CLAIRE: Me too! I’m Claire.
GIRL: Alanis.
CLAIRE: As in Morissette?
ALANIS: Yeah. Exactly. My mom was obsessed with her when she had me.
Jagged Little Pill had just come out, and in her opinion, it was the greatest album in the history of music.
CLAIRE: It’s a good album.
ALANIS: Not as good as
So Tonight That I Might See by Mazzy Star.
CLAIRE; Oh my gosh! You’re into Mazzy Star, too?
ALANIS: Into them? I am in love with Mazzy Star! Ever since I first heard “Into Dust” on an old rerun of House, I have had a huge girl crush on Hope Sandoval!
CLAIRE: She’s a really talented singer.
ALANIS: Mads, that’s my boyfriend, he loves them too. Oh my gosh! I just got an idea! On Friday nights, Harrison’s, that’s the cafeteria in the main building, does karaoke. We should do a duet sometime.
CLAIRE: That would be awesome!
