Chapter 10
TYWYN WHARF
When the train returned to Wharf Station, Ceri got off as fast as she could. She and Sydney ran to each other and hugged.
CERI: Hey.
SYDNEY: Hey. How was the ride?
CERI: It was okay. Except for you know who.
SYDNEY: I thought she was on guard duty.
CERI: Well, she conveniently got off when it was time for the train to start.
SYDNEY: I'm sorry.
CERI: It's fine. Anyway, how was the footplate ride?
SYDNEY: It was awesome! I loved being able to help drive the train!
Tim and Jerry walked up.
TIM: She did an admirable job. You both did.
SYDNEY: Thank you. Both of you.
Sydney shook Tim and Jerry's hands, as did Ceri.
JERRY: Not a problem. I hope you'll come back and see us soon.
CERI: We will!
SYDNEY: Definitely!
CERI: So, my sister and I used to come here a lot when we were little kids. Dolgoch was always my favorite. Do you mind if I say one last goodbye?
TIM: Go right ahead.
Ceri walked into Dolgoch's cab. She patted the side of the cab.
CERI: Good job, old girl. Thanks for a great run.
Tim walked in a moment later.
TIM: You wanna have one more go on it?
He gestured at the whistle cord.
CERI: I'd love to!
TIM: Go on, then.
Ceri pulled the cord. A long, loud whistle came from Dolgoch.
CERI: Thanks, Tim.
TIM: Glad you had fun, Ceri.
Ceri and Tim shook hands. Ceri walked out of the cab and to the front of the locomotive.
CERI (whispering): Thank you, Dolgoch.
She smiled, and returned to Sydney and Jerry.
SYDNEY: She is a beautiful locomotive.
CERI: Yeah. She's always been my favorite.
SYDNEY: Which one is Rhiannon's?
CERI: Douglas. Most because he spends of a lot of the time decorated as his fictional counterpart, Duncan.
SYDNEY: Ducan? You mean, the engine who “rocks 'n' rolls”? The one from Thomas the Tank Engine?
Ceri nodded.
SYDNEY: That's awesome! I used to love that show as a kid!
CERI: So did we.
JERRY: D'you want to see him?
CERI: Could we?
JERRY: Don't see why not. I'll take you to Pendre Sheds. You can see the rest of the engines there, too.
SYDNEY: That would be awesome! Thanks, Jerry!
JERRY: Don't mention it. Come on.
Jerry, Ceri and Sydney walked into the cab.
JERRY: It'll be a bit of a squeeze, but it won't take long for us to get there.
He stuck his head out.
JERRY: You got us uncoupled there, Tim?
Tim gave him a thumbs up.
TIM: All good, Jerry.
JERRY: Right-o. Sydney, blow the whistle.
Sydney pulled the whistle cord.
JERRY: Ceri, could help me pull the regulator?
CERI: I'd be happy to!
Ceri and Jerry pulled the regulator and Dolgoch started off towards Pendre.
