Chapter 52
Even though it was May, mornings and evenings were cold and windy at sea, especially out on the St. Lawrence Seaway.
While watching the sunrise from the Sky Deck, Philip couldn’t stop thinking about what Chloe said the other day. After all the talking and planning and scheduling and placing orders and compromising, it seemed like she still wasn’t happy with the wedding plans they’d made. Their wedding was six weeks away and Philip was starting to wonder if Chloe could ever be happy about anything. In all the years he’d known her, he never thought of her as someone who was hard to please. Sure she was high maintenance at times, but in his experience, all women were. Compared to Belle and Stephanie, Chloe was a piece of cake.
For some reason, this wedding loomed large for her. For him, it had always been a means to an end, but he’d lived with enough women to understand that weddings were huge for them. They expected perfection, but seldom got it. Chloe wanted a bigger wedding with more fanfare than they had last time. She wanted to be celebrated. At the same time, she wanted something intimate where they wouldn’t have to worry what anyone did or didn’t think.
Philip being Philip, he only wanted to make Chloe happy. He wanted everything to be perfect for her. Right now, that felt like a bit of a tall order.
Philip shook his head at his own naivete. Perfection simply doesn’t exist. But happiness does. Not necessarily the happily ever after kind of happiness, but rather pockets of happiness that you have to make the most of. Being with Chloe made Philip happy. Not euphoric — the way it did when they were in high school — but rather satisfied, content, knowing that with Chloe is where he always belonged. Maybe he could explain that to Chloe so she wouldn’t sweat the small stuff. Still, weddings were far from “small stuff” as far as women were concerned.
All at once, he came up with an idea. Philip headed inside the ship and walked around until he found what he was looking for. He knocked on the wooden double doors of the Bridge and a young man granted him entrance.
“Is the captain here,” Philip asked the young man.
A blond-haired, blue-eyed man wearing a captain's cap and a blue and white uniform stepped forward. “I’m Captain Nyland. What can I do for you, Mr. Kiriakis?”

I don't think that Philip has ever met a woman who wasn't high maintenance!  Philip is definitely a fixer...which I expect has something to do with his upbringing. But here--I think--it's going to work in his favor. Looking forward to the next chapter! Any chance you will be able to give us previews, boss? |
