Chapter 48b
After settling into their suite, Philip and Chloe went out on deck. The northerly wind was crisp, even though it was late in Spring, and Philip and Chloe stood by the railing wearing pullover sweaters watching the yacht set sail and the Chicagoland skyline get further and further away. Philip positioned himself behind Chloe, pressed against her and locking her between his arms as he grasped the railing in front her. “This is perfect,” he whispered as he nuzzled the back of her neck.
When she didn’t answer, he asked, “What are you thinking?”
“Mmm. I’m not. I’m just enjoying the breeze in my hair and your arms around me, and the prospect of time alone with you. No phone. No internet. No interruptions.”
Wrapping her tighter in his arms, he kissed her hair. “I’m starting to wonder why we didn’t do this before now.”
“This doesn’t have to be our one and only vacation, you know." She leaned her head back. "If we like it — and I’m guessing we will — it can be the first of many.”
‘I like the way you think, Miss Lane.”
“Philip?”
“Mmm hmmm.”
“Can I ask you a question?”
“Mmm hmmm.”
“Are you happy with our wedding plans?”
Philip straightened up, shifting his eyes from the left to the right as he contemplated her potentially loaded question. “Uh. I am if you are.”
Chloe nodded without saying anything.
“You are happy, aren’t you,” he asked a little hesitantly. “I mean they’re your plans. We’re doing things your way this time. That was the agreement.”
“I know,” she sighed.
“I sense a ‘but’ coming.”

I rewlly hope Chloe is happy with their wedding plans, especially since she made them. Philip and Chloe don't need any more road blocks. Thanks for the chapter, Kpatch.

Clearly she isn't happy, if she's bringing this up. Question is....what exactly is she unhappy about? And can she and Philip get on the same page?

Chapter 49a
“Are you happy with our wedding plans?”
“I don’t know Philip. I guess I have some mixed feelings, but it’s not because of me. It’s because of you. All the while we were making plans, you were kind of contrary. I got the feeling you had misgivings.” When Philip stiffened, Chloe slipped out of his arms and turned around to face him. “I’m right, aren’t I?”
Philip shook his head back and forth. “Not the way you’re thinking.”
Taking a deep breath, Chloe said, “Talk to me, Philip. If you don’t want to get married—”
“I don’t.”
Chloe’s eyes flashed and a lump formed in her throat. She was starting to be sorry she brought this up. “You … you don’t want to get married??”
“Not really.” Chloe took a step back but Philip reached out and grasped her shoulders. “That came out wrong,” he added quickly. “Sweetheart, I want you to be my wife more than anything. This ceremony stuff is inconsequential to me at this stage of my life. But it’s important to you, and if I’ve seemed contrary, I’m sorry. All my marriages have ended badly, so I supposed I have a negative association.” Chloe let out a breath and he pulled her close. “I want to spend my life with you, there’s no doubt about that, and if you want it to start with a big wedding, that’s what we’ll do.”
She leaned away to look into his eyes. “You sure?”
He moved closer and softly kissed her lips. “Very sure.” He smiled and touched her chin. “I’ll try to be more upbeat, if it helps. Besides, the invitations are already in the mail.”
“I wish there was a happy medium.”
“Like?”
“Like. I don’t know. I just wish we could have an intimate wedding, but one that’s more personal than what we did last time, which felt so … so cold and impersonal. I want it to be perfect this time.”
“It will be,” Philip said firmly, “because you’ll be standing beside me when we make our vows.”
“Even if half our guests are taking bets about how long it’ll last this time?”
“To hell with what they think,” he blurted. “We’ll prove them wrong.” Philip held Chloe’s gaze for a long while.
Finally, she rested her forehead on Philip’s shoulder. “You’re right. You’re always right. It doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks.”
Philip rubbed her back and held her tight. “Know what I’m thinking right now?”
Chloe leaned away slightly and looked down. Then she looked back up at Philip. “I’ve got a pretty good guess.”
He leaned forward and kissed her lips. “Let’s go back to our suite.”

I agree with Philip. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.
I hope this is the end of them almost arguing about the wedding plans.

So glad that they didn't get into a fight about this. They don't need any more stress from arguing, on top of the stress of planning a wedding. They should just be enjoying their vacation. Can we please have previews, Kpatch?

Sometimes Philip needs to grow a filter... Things do appear to be looking up, though! Any chance of previews, boss?

I'm glad that Philip spoke up about what he was feeling. And past experiences can influence how you feel about situations/events. No one can fault him there. AT least Chloe didn't go storming off in a huff this time and actually gave him a chance to explain.

Chapter 50
They continued sailing northward up Lake Michigan toward Canada. They got off the ship and had breakfast at the Chateau Frontenac, the centuries-old, five-star hotel in Quebec City. After breakfast, they made their way down to the Old Quebec and walked along cobblestone roads to the horse and buggy stand. Once inside the carriage, Chloe nestled into Philip’s arms, listening to the clip-clop of the horse’s hooves, and reading her sightseeing leaflet.
“What’s a caleche?” Philip asked.
Chloe looked up at him. “Where did you see that?”
“On a street sign.”
“It’s French for horse and carriage,” she translated.
“Oh.” He seemed a little disappointed.
“What did you think it was?”
“I don’t know.” He shrugged. “A pastry maybe.”
Chloe laughed. “You can’t be hungry. We just had breakfast an hour ago.”
“I’m not. But it sounded good.” He rubbed his nose against hers. “All buttery and flaky.”
Chloe’s eyes fluttered shut. “You make everything sound so sexy.” She opened her eyes and looked into his. “But you’re thinking of a croissant.”
“Mmmm,” he growled. “Let’s go get some afterwards.”
Playing along, she said, “Okay, I saw a patisserie on the way here.”
“A what?”
Chloe rolled her eyes. “Have you forgotten all your 10th grade French?”
“Every bit of it, except ….”
“Except what?”
“Except ‘voulez vous couchez avec moi c’est soir,’” he said with a wink.
“Ha! I should have known. But I’m pretty sure you didn’t learn that in French class.”
“That’s probably because I skipped class so much.”
“You did not skip class.”
“You’re right, I didn’t.” He squeezed her closer to him. “I never skipped any class that we had together. I wouldn’t miss the chance to be near you.”
“Oh.” She got lost in Philip’s eyes and grew a little misty. “I never want to miss a chance to be near you either, Philip.” She reached for the back of his neck and pulled him into a soft, leisurely kiss that lasted the rest of the ride.
