Chapter 10a
Author’s Note: This segment is told from Parker’s point of view.
Mommy, Daddy and me were seated at a booth at IHOP. Daddy sat on the seat closest to the aisle, with me next to him on the inside of the booth so I can't get out and run around, while Mommy sat across from the us. Daddy was reading the menu so he could tell me what sounds good. Mommy was reading hers so she could tell me what to eat that won't make me fat.
Parker was hungry after eating hardly anything in forever. He hoped his parents would make up their minds soon. They’d been sitting here reading their menus for ages. Why hasn’t the waitress come by yet? I'm hungry!
“I’m hungry,” Parker blurted out. But all that got him was a pat on the head from his father, who didn’t even look up from his menu. Sheesh. Parker looked from his mother to his father thinking up ways to get their attention.
Parker suddenly remembered being shocked to find his father at the condo so early this morning. But even more shocking was when his mother announced she was going to join them for breakfast. He couldn't believe it! He didn’t think they liked each other anymore, so why would they want to eat together?
Still, he noticed that Mommy and Daddy seemed more relaxed than ever. He even saw them smile at each other a few times. He guessed they liked pancakes.
This is great, this is great, Parker thought to himself. “This is great,” he said out loud.
“What’s great, angel,” Mommy asked.

Awww what a sweet chapter! I love hearing Parker's thoughts. Chloe needs to ease up on telling him that certain foods will make him fat. Nutrition is important but it's going to cause issues later on if she keeps talking that way. I thought Parker was going to start acting out to get their attention. I'm glad he didn't. Great chapter Kpatch.

heroicmuse , the comment about foods making him fat was Parker's POV and not necessarily reality. In Parker's mind, healthy/nutritious = won't make me fat. Chloe chose to come to breakfast to make sure that Parker doesn't eat anything that will make him sick again. In story-time, it was just a day before when Parker had the stomach bug. It is true that Chloe is the more health conscious parent. Mostly, I was trying to show that Parker sees Philip as the more fun parent. Chloe is more of the disciplinarian, which I think is common when one parent lives with the child and the other does not. I can't wait for tomorrow's chapter!

Chapter 10b
Author’s Note: This segment is told from Parker’s point of view
This is great, this is great, Parker thought to himself. “This is great,” he said out loud.
“What’s great, angel,” Mommy asked.
He bounced up and down on his seat and was about to answer his mother when he changed course. Parker looked over his shoulder at the booth behind him. Still feels weird to not be sitting on a booster seat. He turned back around and looked at the fun stuff on the table. Oooh. Salt shaker! Parker reached for the salt shaker.
“Parrrrkerrrrrr,” Chloe warned. She had that tone of voice that told him he was about to be in biiiig trouble, so he abandoned that pursuit and slid one of the pancake syrup dispensers toward him, while keeping an eye on his mother’s reaction. When she gave him “the look” yet again, he whined, “I’m just getting ready!”
Parker suddenly had a flashback.
Last night, he couldn’t sleep, so he went across the hall to his mom’s bedroom. He tried the door but it was locked for some strange reason and he couldn’t imagine why. He was about to call out for her to open the door when he heard a man’s voice say, “I’m just getting ready.”
Surprised, Parker put his ear to the door and listened some more. His eyes widened when the sounds of grunting and heavy breathing reached his ear. He immediately turned and headed back across the hall wondering what to do. Maybe he should call the police. Then he’d be hailed a hero like some of those other little kids on the TV news. But as soon as he got to his room, he spotted his AnimaLogic puzzle on the floor, started playing with it, and forgot all about calling the police.
Parker turned to his father and tugged on Philip’s sleeve. “Daddy, Mommy had a sleepover last night.”

I'm so happy you're enjoying the IHOP breakfast. Much more to come.
Next up, we get Philip's point of view. How will he answer his son's question? He's caught between a rock and a hard place with Chloe across the table disagreeing with his approach. Parker is smarter than even they realize because nothing gets past him.
Where the heck is that waitress??

Thanks for the great previews Kpatch. It looks like a rough conversation. Parker must be really hungry by now.
