I think it's gonna be great too.
Can you imagine any Days characters actually eating at a place like IHOP? They eat at the pub, coffee shops, fancy restaurants, and night clubs, but I've never seen anywhere quite like an IHOP. Frankly, it was a little hard to imagine. I enjoy the juxtoposition of people who look like Philip and Chloe and have their kind of money "slumming" it an IHOP.

Chapter 11
Breakfast with the Kiriakises vignette
Author’s Note: This segment is told from Philip’s point of view
Parker turned to his father and tugged on Philip’s sleeve. “Daddy, Mommy had a sleepover last night.”
Philip’s eyes flashed.
“Parker!” His mother called to him. “Mommy did not.”
“Then how come the door was locked? I heard voices,” Parker insisted.
“Um.” Philip rubbed his forehead. Philip sometimes forgot that Parker was five years old and not a baby anymore. He was becoming more and more aware of the world around him. How do I answer, Philip wondered. Stalling, he asked his son, “What did you hear, Parker?”
“Mommy and a man,” Parker answered. “They was making funny noises.”
Philip glanced over at Chloe. She looked upset. He knew this isn’t how she wanted to tell Parker. When it came time to have “the talk,” and tell Parker that they were reconciling, they were supposed to do it during a family counseling session. That was Mary’s advice and Chloe had come to depend a great deal on Mary. Sometimes he thought they couldn’t use the bathroom without getting Mary’s opinion first. Truth be told, Philip was a little tired of playing by Mary’s rules. Sure, she knew her stuff and sure, they were paying her big money, but this was his life, and his family, not hers.
Whenever he had to make a business decision, Philip analyzed all the angles. That’s what he was doing right now as Parker stared at him with that innocent little face of his. So, after running a number of scenarios through his mind, Philip decided to go with the truth. “Um. Parker, that was me you heard.”
There was a thump under the table. “Hey, you just kicked my prosthetic leg,” Philip told Chloe.
“Philip, we talked about this!” she said through clenched teeth.
“I know, but I don’t want to lie to him.”
“Yeah, lying is bad,” Parker chimed in. Looking at his father, he asked, “Daddy, why did you sleep over?”

Philip is wrong that Mary has too much control over their lives, but he is right that they didn't have much choice in this situation. Parker wasn't going to be distracted and lying would have been bad. Great chapter Kpatch!

I agree that there really is no other option, as Parker knows what he heard and they don't want to lie. I don't really agree that Mary has too much control over their life. Either way, I'm glad Philip told Parker the truth. Great chapter, Kpatch!

I don't blame Chloe a bit for feeling uncomfortable with Parker's questions. I wonder how Philip is going to answer Parker's question about why he slept over.

Chapter 12a
Breakfast with the Kiriakises vignette
Author’s Note: This segment is told from Philip’s POV
“Philip, we talked about this,” Chloe said through clenched teeth.
“I know, but I don’t want to lie to him.”
“Yeah, lying is bad,” Parker chimed in. Looking at his father, he asked, “Daddy, why did you sleep over?”
Glancing at Chloe, he knew if looks could kill, he’d be on life support right now. The last thing he wanted to do was incur the wrath of Chloe after everything they’d been through. Time to backpedal. Philip cleared his throat. “Well, Parker, I knew we were having breakfast together, and I didn’t want to be late to pick you up.”
“Oh great,” Chloe said, folding her arms across her chest. “And that’s not lying?”
“Well, what do you want me to say,” Philip whined.
“How come you slept in Mommy’s room ‘stead of the guest room?” Parker asked.
Philip avoided looking at Chloe when he answered. “Because … because your mother and I had some things to talk over.”
Parker thought for a minute. “What do grownups do at a sleepover? Do you play games?”
Rubbing his forehead again, Philip answered, “Sort of.”
“Parker, angel,” his mother interrupted, “why don’t you tell Daddy about trying out for little league?”
“Good idea,” Philip exhaled. “Tell me about little league, Parker.”
Parker gave his father a bewildered look. “Daaaddy! I already told you.”

Hahahaha!!! Philip was right to tell Parker that it was him. Chloe kicking under the table and saying the things that she is saying is only making it worse.
I don't agree that Mary has a lot of control over their lives....that's obvious by Parker's questions. LOL. they do need her guidance to get back the obstacles & insecurities that they both have. However, Philip & Chloe BOTH need to learn how to handle the here and now. Mary is not going to always be around to guide their answers and reactions. She is not their nanny and this world and other people do not conform to their wishes and/or plans. Like Philip said, Parker is 5 now and becoming much more aware of things going on around him.
