Yep absolutely.Too bad it was that noticeable.I'm glad he's gone, just because he deserves to be where his talent will be used.Hopefully if he ever comes back, the writers will use him properly.

Agrred, but I hope he lands something really big soon. I had so hoped that he would land a pilot like Shelley Hennig did.

I really don't think it was so much Jay "phoning in" as much as it was terrible awful writing and incredibly bad stories for Philip... so Jay did the best he could with what he was given. Jay appears to be too much of a professional not to give his all and always do his best when performing. I just can't see Jay just not working as hard as he always did.

I guess maybe "phonining in" wasn't the write words to use. I am sure he did give his all and try, but he didn't have the same passion that he used to and I yes I blame that on the horrible writing and stories Jay was in his last year and couple months on the show. You could tell that Jay was disheartened by it all.

Unless one actually talked with Jay and he voiced that, there really isn't any way, I think, of really knowing what Jay was feeling or thinking or doing based on his portraying of Philip.

Ok let me amend my own statements then...It didn't feel to ME like Jay was putting in 100% anymore. He never got the stories he'd been promised,so I can see how he may have been disheartened, but it could have been the writing.

You are right, I can't really know what Jay was feeling, and I doubt he would ever say he is to much of a professional. But I do know that Jay has verbalize himself that he likes playing Philip as edgy more of the bad boy, and he is also said that he really likes working with the vets like Lauren, Louise, John, and Joe. And these are two things we didn't really see from Philip the last year or so. I was disapointed not only with his storyline, but the fact that other characters like Melanie, Daniel, and Rafe were leading the stories when Philip who is not only a legacy character, but Jay had more than payed whose dues with the show and had more time there was pushed to the side as a supporting character when he should be a lead character. I don't know Jay, but I had to imagine he was disapointed, but I guess you are right I can't really speak on what he may or may not have felt. I can only talk on my own observations, and they are that Jay to me always brought this intensity to the character of Philip, and wether I liked the storylines he was in or not (and most times I did not) I could always feel Jay's passion to putting his entire self into his character. I personally did not see this alot in the last couple of months and I know that I was not the only one who feels this way post frequently at Daytime Royalty, The Sony Boards, and at soapcentral.com and alot of posters who love Jay like me felt the same way. But I guess at the end of the day we all have different opinions, and I deeply apologized if mine offended you or anyone else on the board. I wasn't trying to upset anyone when I made some of my comments.

I wasn't trying to upset anyone when I made some of my comments. You didn't offend and I didn't mean to offend either and I have to totally agree wth you regarding about what happened to the character of Philip. He became a prop for everyone's else's story and didn't have a story of his own so I can see how Jay may have become disillusioned and not happy with what was happening at Days and to his character. But the point I was making is that we can only assume and not say that he was... we don't know that for sure, but only can make assumptions. Regarding Jay's passion.. I still feel it was Philip's passion that was lacking... I think Jay did the best he could do with the material he was given.... you can't put pssion into material that is passionless.... that lacks anything but the same thing over and over again.... torn between being a daddy to Parker and his concern for Chloe and wanting Melanie back.... after doing that same thing for months on end, it becomes passionless... as I said, I think Jay did the best he could with the garbage he was given to act....I feel bad for Jay, who is so talented yet was never given the leading man material and front burner stories he should have had... I think it's good to share comments and really we tend to agree on most points... I think it's more a matter of semantics than anything else in which we disagree...
