I Agree jaysdelina and sportsgirl! However, I think Nathan is going to eventually come back as a recast and they will eventually fall for each other again! I don't know, but I almost HOPE he goes bonkers,a la Nick.At least it would give him a storyline.Don't forget,he IS Nick's cousin, and we really don't know much about Nathan's background. It would be interesting to find out that maybe his father had gone bonkers too,and that's why he's not in Nathan's life.Maybe it's inherent of the Horton family.Laura had gone nuts,Laura's mother,Hope (but her was due to pills),Nick's mother,Nick (also due to pills),so it seems to run in the Horton family. And another thing....Nathan has repeatedly told Philip not to speak for Mel right? So why,on god's green earth, does Nathan believe it's ok for HIM to speak for Mel?He TOLD Philip that Mel was staying with him,and he's going to ask for Daniel's blessing to marry Melanie.Did she even tell him that's what she wanted?I don't think so....So yet again,he takes over for her.

^^ Great points Delina. Seems some insanity does run in the Horton family, which is ironic, since I always used to think of them as the most sane family in Salem. I guess it averages out on the sanity richter scale.
You are right about Nathan speaking for Melanie. Melanie looked as surprised as anybody when Nathan told Philip "she's staying with me." Loved Philip's comment about whether Nathan ever thinks before running his mouth. Nathan said that exact same thing to Stephanie. LOL.

I was just thinking that at least if he went bonkers it would give us SOMETHING about him.I mean what do we really know about Nathan? We know his father isn't around, probably has never been around, and we know he traveled, that's about it.
Nathan seems to have double standards in regards to himself and other people. It's fine for him to speak for people (namely Mel),it's fine for him to make snap judgements (remember when he assumed Mel was the one responsible for what happend to Nick? When he assumed Steph's anti-anxiety pills were Mel's,or how about when he assumed her "party girl"image was who she really is?).I'm not convinced that Nathan loves Mel at all.I really believe he's still in competition mode with Philip (although I do believe it stopped being a competition for Philip and he really did fall in love with her),and that by pushing Mel into a committment,he believes he "wins"against Philip,if that makes sense.

I couldn't believe it when he said that he fell in love with her the moment he met her. What B.S. that was. If he was in love with her, why did he play her against Stephanie for so long. Sanctimonious jerk.

EXACTLY!If you remember correctly too,in the beginning,he'd badmouth her to anyone who would listen. He was almost as bad as Steph on that. This is just another case of the writers rewriting history to suit their purposes and give us a story that really makes no sense.Corday I believe it was, said that Mate (Mel,Nathan)would be end game....that they had this great love for eachother.Excuse me?Where is this great love?I,for one, never saw it play out.

Blech! Let's just hope the writing for them is better the second time around.

I hope so.The best move would be for Days to fire the whole lot of 'em and hire a whole new staff of writers.

Actually, I don't mind the writers, but what I think they need to do is shut down for a week and have the highlights of Days Past (and crash course in character history) so that they could pick up and start fresh on what works, what doesn't, and how to build a relationship!
It's frustrating that they keep changing their minds mid story.
However, I think that Mel did spell it out for him that she's not ready right now when she was pregnant, but hasn't really since. She is indirectly leading him on by not really stopping him and saying "I can't have you here in my life right now".
He's also not getting the hint from her non-committal and from people like Maggie telling him to back off. I think he knows deep down that he's going to lose her (again, no like she was ever really his) and he can't accept that.
She just needs to put her foot down and not go running to him every chance she gets if she doesn't want him in her life. Fight with Philip, go to Nathan. That's her MO. She's sending mixed signals.

Nathan is pissing me off more and more each day! I love how he just thinks he knows exactly how Melanie is feeling and what she needs or wants. I didn't know whether to laugh or barf at his conversation with Daniel today. I get that he hates Philip but his line about "Melanie finally figured out what kind of guy Philip was and she didn't love him like she loves me." First of all, that's not why Melanie broke up with Philip and second of all, I'm sorry but if I'm not mistaken the only time Mel has even said "I love you" to Nathan was in quarantine under the duress of a near death experience. This guy is beyond delusional...he's practically bonkers! I'm starting to wonder if Nathan is going to be written out by way of the looney bin.

I absolutely agree. I had high hopes for Nathan! The writer's have done nothing but depress us all with his character almost since day one. PS LOVE your new avatar Sparkster!

Even Daniel laughed at Nathan. I saw one of those thought bubbles over Daniel's head and he was thinking "What a jerk. My daughter's taste in men stinks."

Nathan is only seeing what he wants to see.He only sees what suits HIS agenda for Melanie's life. You right Sparkster, that's NOT why she split with Philip, and she admitted to Philip she still does love HIM.I don't think she loves Nathan more than she feels SAFE with him.Nathan's never really hurt her.And why is that?Because the people you LOVE most have the power to HURT you most. She is in "intense like"with Nathan, not love. That is reserved for Philip, otherwise she wouldn't have been so hurt when he went back to Steph after she and Philip had their one nighter in that sleazy motel. She wouldn't have been so hurt to find out about the affair and then of Parker's paternity. But that's just my opinion. As for her turning to Nathan all the time,I agree, she does turn to him.In the last few months though,I don't think she has,at least not intentionally.Unfortunately everytime she turns around,Nathan is in her face, stalker boy that he is.So yeah,if she's upset and he's there,he's right up in her face,so she talks to him.I really don't know that Mel sees she leads him on.I think she truly just considers him a friend and it's Nathan's wires that are crossed because he WANTS to have more with her. He's not seeing the strong friend vibe she's giving off because that's not what HE wants.Nathan's love is not about Melanie and making her life better,it's about winning over Philip.JMO.

Good points, D. When you mentioned that Melanie often runs to or runs into Nathan, it made me think that she sees him the way she saw Max, as a big brother/protector. He's not lover material for her. He's brother material.

That's exactly my point. She doesn't love him as a "lover"that's reserved for Philip. She loves Nathan as a friend,as a brother, and because it doesn't suit him,he refuses to see it or hear it,no matter how many times she's said it by now (and there have been several).I get that some are frustrated that she's not saying it anymore, but really,if you think about it,how many times do you have to hit your head against a brick wall before you get the point that it hurts and you're gonna bleed?Talking to Nathan is like beating your head against a brick wall, and frankly,I don't blame Mel for not wanting to do it anymore. She's wasting her breath.Something else has to be done to smack him upside the head and wake him up.
