Okay! Thanks so much for reading and commenting and continuing to stay engaged in this story. Love you guys!
This will be an interesting week when we’ll peel away a few more layers.
Previews
Philip and Chloe have serious meetings with two women this week.
-How will Edith in HR react to the difficult position Philip has placed her and Titan Media in? -How will Dr. Richards react to being fired?

I hope Dr. Richards has all her sessions recorded and can play back the fact that she did NOT tell Philip to break up with Chloe, at all. She will probably, at the very least, point out that her method worked and brought them closer together. I wonder whether Monica will claim that Philip kissed her against her will. Can't wait to see what happens Kpatch!

So they actually go through with firing Dr. Richards? Wow! I'll be interested to hear how Monica's version of events differs from Philip's. Thanks for the previews, Kpatch!

Thanks for the previews Kpatch. It's going to be very interesting to see Phloe talking to Edith and the conversation with Dr. Richards.

Oooooh. If Dr Richards is making progress with Parker, I'm not sure I want Philip and Chloe to fire her...maybe she can suggest someone whose practice is strictly marriage counseling?
I'm hoping that Philip and Chloe's visit isn't the first that Edith will have had about Monica acting inappropriately. Maybe Titan can transfer her to its office in Sri Lanka?
Thanks for the previews, boss!

It appears that there are some differing opinions (which frankly, is awesome) of the way Dr. Richards handled Philip a couple weeks ago and the way he reacted to her suggestions. So, heading into this week, I thought you might like/want a refresher on Philip and the doctor’s session.
“Her ….” Choking up, he cleared his throat. “Her distrust of me, it tore me apart.”
“I can see that.”
Philip leaned forward and clasped his hands between his parted legs. “I only cheated on a woman once in my life, doc. Not that I deserve a medal for that,” he quickly added. “But the thing is, I cheated with Chloe. And there were extenuating circumstances, but she knows that. She knows every bit of it and she knows how guilt-ridden I was over our one-night stand and what it did to Melanie." Staring off into space, Philip pondered, “I’m not a cavalier kind of guy. I wouldn't cheat on Chloe, and … I just don’t know how she could know me so well and not know me at all.”
“I can’t speak for Chloe here,” Dr. Richards' tone was sympathetic. “That would be something to discuss during our combined sessions. What I’m concerned about right now is you, Philip, and that undercurrent of anger I’ve been seeing for weeks.”
“And the only person who gets hurt by my anger is me, right?” he said dismissively. She wasn’t the only one who got to do analysis, Philip decided.
“Often, that’s the case. Chloe told me that when she finally realized the truth and begged your forgiveness, your first reaction was to rebuff her.” Philip nodded. “So tell me, why did you take Chloe back? What made you change your mind?”
“It’s no mystery, doc. I love her.” He shrugged. “Simple as that.”
“Is it really simple? You have two strong emotions going on here. Love and anger." She balanced imaginary balls in each hand. "And you feel both of those things about the same person,” Mary observed. Philip merely looked down at his lap. “From everything I’ve heard, all the stories you’ve both told me, she really yanked you around since the beginning. She hurt you badly time and again. And you keep coming back for more." Philip raised his brows at Mary's directness. "From where I sit, a man like you could have any woman you want.”
Philip scoffed. “Oh sure, I'm a real catch,” he said sarcastically. “Did I mention my two failed marriages,” he asked, knowing that the doctor already knew the whole story. “Make that three.”
“I think we have a bit of a self-esteem issue.”
“Me?? That’s nuts.”
“Yes, Philip, you,” the doctor replied as if it were a fact, not an opinion. “Let’s take a look at your history. You told me that your first wife never got over her first love, that you were her second choice. And with your second wife,” she looked at her notes, “that was Melanie, it turned out that you were the man she wanted, but she was toying with another man and you thought she was in love with him.”
“I know. I lived through it,” Philip cut her off, getting annoyed at hearing the ugly truth yet again.
“And with Chloe, she dumped you for your own nephew, and went on to marry your brother, then—.”
“I know! Okay?” Philip raised his voice and scratched his forehead roughly. “So, what the hell is your point?” Was this some kind of new technique? Some test? “Are you trying to make me angry? Because it’s working.”
Mary placed her palms on her desk, a gesture meant to calm Philip down. “My point is, that you shouldn’t ever have to settle. You should be with a woman whose love you don’t have to beg for and never have to question. Love shouldn’t be this much of a struggle.”
Philip’s brow knit. He felt like the air just left his body. “But it always is,” he stated quietly.
“But it shouldn’t be.”
If it wasn’t for Dr. Richards’ all-business demeanor, he might have thought she was coming on to him. Where was all this leading? “So … what? Are you suggesting that I just walk away from Chloe because our relationship is a struggle?”
“Only you can decide that, Philip,” the doctor answered without emotion, saying the opposite of what he expected her to say. He thought she’d tell him every relationship has its struggles. But instead, she said, “What I’m saying is you need to determine how long you can live with that gnawing anger, how much you’re willing to put up with.”
Philip chuckled wryly. “I’m apparently willing to put up with a hell of a lot. … Let me ask you, doc. Are you having this same conversation with Chloe? About me?”
The doctor smiled and said nothing for a full minute. But Philip continued to stare her down until she finally answered. “I’m not free to discuss what Chloe and I talk about in our private sessions. But this isn’t about Chloe. It’s about you, and your reaction to her lack of trust. Your anger. Your guilt. Let’s think about this for a minute.” She paused for effect. “There’s no guarantee that Chloe will change or grow less insecure no matter how long I work with her. She has trust issues, and that’s not violating a confidence. You already know about that. So, what happens if she can’t get past those issues?”
Philip’s eyes widened. He firmly believed that failure wasn’t an option this time. Was the doctor saying he was wrong? “But… Isn’t that what you’re working on with her?”
“We’re working on a variety of issues. What I want you to think about, Philip, what I want you to decide is whether you are willing to wait for Chloe to get to that place where she’s able to trust — if it ever happens.”
His stomach turned when she said that. Looking down, Philip squeezed his hands together and cracked his knuckles in an effort to distract himself from the pain in his heart. The idea of living a life without Chloe had been all but unthinkable, but that’s what the doctor was suggesting. He lifted his head and looked at her, fighting back the tears. Clearing his throat, he said, “So you think it’s possible that Chloe might never get past her trust issues?”
“Again, only she can answer that question. I’m merely pointing out that Chloe may never become the kind of partner that you need. But you’re just as much my patient as she is and it’s clear that you don’t have those same issues. You deserve a healthy relationship.” Philip looked up at the doctor with surprise. “Think about it, Philip. That’s all I’m saying. Think about it.”

Ok....I'm willing to reserve judgment regarding Dr Richards til we see what happens this week. On a second read, this conversation looks a little different to me.

Chapter 64
Chloe was right. The way they handled the Monica situation by being upfront with Edith was the exact right thing to do. In explaining what happened, Philip shouldered the blame, but he was honest in his description of Monica’s interest in him. Chloe added her part of the story, that when she told Monica that she and Philip weren’t together, Monica went running straight to Philip’s office to make a play for him.
Edith was professional and they could tell she was annoyed, but she did let Philip know that his behavior was nothing compared to some of the antics his father and mother and Brady pulled during the years when Edith was head of Human Resources at the headquarters office in Salem. The things she had to sweep under the rug! But she cautioned Philip and Chloe not to drop their guard — these were very different times; the world was far more politically correct and litigious, and news travelled faster than ever thanks to social media. So they had to approach the situation with far more diplomacy.
Monica would be transferred to a different department, but it could not seem like a punishment. Instead, it would be a step up the ladder for her. Edith further suggested giving her a bigger workload to both keep her busy and make her unhappy enough to leave the organization.
Philip rejected the latter suggestion. He firmly believed that Monica didn’t deserve to be punished for his actions.
Looking through her emails, Edith got another idea. Sterling Cooper, Titan Media’s ad agency in New York, had an opening for a marketing specialist, and Monica had the right experience for it. Edith said she would send Monica’s name to her counterpart over there, along with the names of some less-qualified candidates.
After meeting with Edith, Philip walked Chloe back to her office. He couldn’t take his eyes off her, and he couldn’t get over how differently he felt about her today and about them, compared to the way he felt last night at the opera. Night and day.
He felt so proud of the way Chloe handled herself during this whole drama. Mostly he was heartened by the fact that they were in this together, really together. She supported him completely. There was no hint of jealousy or distrust. She just wanted the issue resolved and she didn’t want Philip to have to suffer any consequences, even if he deserved to. It felt like the beginning of a new chapter in their relationship, maybe the best one yet.
