Chapter 60b
“Hi,” he heard a female voice say. Philip’s mood elevated for a nanosecond, thinking it was Chloe. When he looked up, his face fell. It was the last person he expected to see.
“Well that’s not exactly the reaction I was hoping for,” Monica said, walking into his office.
Confused, Philip squinted. “Sorry?”
“You looked happy there for a second — until you looked at me. Then your smile turned upside-down.”
Philip chuckled lightly. “Nothing personal, I promise you that. What’s up?”
“Oh. I wanted to show you my branding concepts for the Beats venture,” she said, holding up her tablet. “Got a minute?”
Philip glanced at the Outlook calendar on his laptop. In truth, he had no meetings until afternoon, but he really didn’t have the patience or focus to review branding concepts right now. Rubbing his forehead, he asked, “What about Jeff? Shouldn’t he be the one looking at them?”
“Oh. He did,” Monica explained as she accessed the files on her tablet and set it on the table. “But he said to run it by you.”
“Oh.” Philip didn’t feel like he needed to approve the concepts, but he could understand why the team would want his approval now, rather than his criticism later when the branding was closer to final. So he got up from his desk and walked over to the round glass table in his office. Monica closed the door and took a seat next to him. She slid her chair closer so that the edges of both chairs were touching.
“What do you think of this one,” Monica asked, swiping the screen and leaning in so her shoulder was touching Philip’s. “Heart Beats — for the moments your heart remembers.”
Surprised, Philip turned his head and looked at her, but it wasn’t Monica he was seeing. Instead it was Chloe. He remembered her emotional speech last summer in Nevada, talking about how music becomes the soundtrack of your life. Her words touched him deeply and made him long to recapture what they once had. Sometimes, you want to remember a feeling forever, you want it to last, but it doesn’t. The feeling is gone, but the song lives on.
Philip didn’t even know when or how it happened, but somehow he was locked in a kiss with Monica.

Ugh. Hope Philip snaps out of it before this goes any further.

*facepalm*. Someone, please get Philip out of there! I really hope he wakes up and realizes what he's doing soon! Great chapter, Kpatch!

Keep it in your pants Philip. Emotional/grief/angry sex has never worked in your favor. I don't see it starting now.

Philip is making the situation with Chloe even worse. Philip wake up and figure out what you are doing.

Chapter 61a
Philip didn’t even know when or how it happened, but somehow he was locked in a kiss with Monica. She was shifting in her seat to get closer to Philip. Her hands were in his hair and her tongue was in his mouth. He quickly noticed that the woman he was kissing didn’t taste like Chloe. She didn’t smell like Chloe or feel like Chloe or move into him like Chloe.
As soon as he realized what was happening, he gripped Monica’s shoulders and gently pushed her away, while Chloe’s words rang in his head. Don't get up close and definitely don’t put yourself into a situation where you’re alone in an office because it's going to turn personal.
He abruptly got out of his chair. “That,” he said emphatically, “should not have happened.”
Monica got up and walked over to Philip, putting her hands behind his neck. “Really? Because I think it was a long time coming.” She tried to pull Philip closer for another kiss, but he resisted and backed away from all contact.
“I’m sorry Monica. I’m really sorry if I gave you the wrong impression. I’m your boss, and this is completely inappropriate.” He walked over to the door and opened it, thinking about the potential for a harassment claim.
“Maybe so,” Monica said seductively, “but some of the best things in life are inappropriate.” She walked closer to Philip again. “Besides, I know you’re in favor of office romances. You told me so yourself.”

Um, Monica, no means no.
I'm glad Philip realized his mistake. I hope he's able to get rid of Monica without further trouble. And he'd better tell Chloe himself, before Monica spreads rumors.
