I really liked the honest conversation. I'm glad Chloe admitted her fears. May we please have previews Kpatch? I'm sending a virtual gin and tonic with a side of almond joy.

Thanks for the treats guys. I will be posting a chapter on Monday ONLY IF you all promise to read/comment … that is, if you're around. Thanks for your continued interest. Here are some previews... - It’s finally a new day in Chicago
- Philip and Chloe have a bit of an awkward moment
- Chloe meets someone and has a surprising reaction
- Prepare for an unexpected twist! (Is there any other kind?)

Chapter 17a
The next day about mid-morning, Philip was working on his laptop downstairs at the lobby Starbucks when Chloe walked in. As soon as she saw him, she walked over to his table, but didn’t sit down.
“What are you doing down here? Did you get thrown out of your office?”
He looked up from his work and his eyes lit up when he saw Chloe. “Oh hey. No, the multimedia presentation in the conference room got so loud, I couldn’t think. I may need to get better insulation for my office.”
“Or for the conference rooms,” Chloe suggested. “Um. I had fun last night. I hardly slept,” she said flirtatiously, gripping the back of the chair across from Philip. “And that’s all your fault.”
Philip smiled almost shyly and looked downward for a moment. “Same here.” He looked up and met her eyes. Tapping the rim of the paper cup on the table in front of him, he noted, “This is my fourth cup of coffee.”
“Can I get you another?”
Philip lifted his cup to see that it was still about half full. “No, I’m good. Join me?” He pulled out the chair adjacent to his.
“Oh. Don’t tempt me,” she said with a little whine. “I can’t. I have a meeting in 10. So … I’ll see you upstairs?” When Philip nodded, she smiled back and got in line for coffee.

I'm glad things are getting back on track, for now anyway... can't wait to see what happens next. I wonder what's going to happen at Chloe's meeting.

I'm hoping by "upstairs" Chloe means the conference room. Wait, that doesn't sound right. I mean during a meeting. I mean, I hope that Chloe meant she'll see Philip at a meeting. Yes, that's it. Thanks for the Labor Day chapter, Kpatch!

Chapter 17b
“Join me?” Philip asked, as he pulled out the chair adjacent to his.
“Oh. Don’t tempt me,” she said with a little whine. “I can’t. I have a meeting in 10. So … I’ll see you upstairs?” When Philip nodded, she smiled back and got in line for coffee.
Two men queued up behind Chloe. One was in his late twenties or early thirties and the other man was in his mid forties. Chloe turned around briefly and smiled at them before facing front again. The younger of the two men began talking to her. “Excuse me,” the man touched Chloe’s shoulder. “I just have to tell you — you have an amazing smile, but you probably hear that all the time.”
“Thank you,” Chloe said before facing front once again. She knit her brow and tried to catch Philip’s eye, but his head was down and he appeared to be concentrating on work.
The man took a step forward and came to stand right next to Chloe. “Hey. Let me buy you a cup of coffee.”
“No, that’s okay,” Chloe said, smiling politely, but feeling uncomfortable.
“Please. I want to. Hey, my name is Grant. Grant Lawrence.” When Chloe looked at him funny, he reached into his pocket and handed her a business card. “I know — it sounds like a soap opera name, but that’s me. I work on the 28th floor — for Tishman Speyer, the real estate firm that owns this building.”
“Um, okay. … Nice meeting you Grant … I think,” she said hesitantly, looking at his card and wondering why she was even holding it.
When they reached the front of the line, Chloe placed her order and handed the cashier her frequent customer card and a five dollar bill.
Grant quickly said, “Let me get that.”
“No,” she said firmly, blocking his hand from scanning his ApplePay information. “Thank you, but no.” Chloe turned to the cashier, took her change, and left the restaurant.

Geez Grant whatever your name is, don't you take no for an answer??? And didn't he see her looking at Philip while she was smiling? Guys like that really annoy me. They give the rest of us a bad name. Lol
