Chapter 15a
After the movie, Philip and Chloe slowly strolled hand-in-hand back to the apartment enjoying the last vestiges of warmth before summer turned to autumn. Philip began whistling “As Time Goes By,” the theme from Casablanca, and soon the whistling turned into singing. “Moonlight and love songs never out of date. … Hearts full of passion, jealousy and hate.”
Chloe watched Philip as he sang, then she joined in. “Woman needs man and man must have his mate. That no one can deny.” Still holding her hand, he stretched out his arm and she twirled under it. He caught her in a hug and they both laughed.
“We always did make beautiful music together,” Philip opined.
“And we still do,” she agreed. “Philip, you know what I miss?”
Philip took a step back and shot Chloe a suspicious glance as if he were expecting the conversation to turn to sex.
“Besides that,” she said swatting his arm playfully while taking hold of his hand again. “I miss our opera dates. Maybe we can do that next time.”
“Next time, yeah,” Philip said quietly, enclosing her hand between both of his. “I like knowing that there’ll be a next time.”
They started walking toward home again when Chloe looked sidelong at Philip. “Philip, can I ask you a serious question?”
“Sure.”
“We said we were going to be open and honest, right? So … um. Do you ever think this is stupid and we're doing it for nothing?”
“What do you mean? What are we doing for nothing that seems stupid? Dating?”
“No, no. Oh gosh, no. Not dating. I’m talking about Dr. Richards’ no-sex rule. Do you think it’s a wasted effort?”

Two words, Chloe. Cold. Shower.

Seriously, Chloe, girl, calm it down! LOL. But can we blame her? As a kid, she didn't know how awesome sex with Philip would be during the dating part. Now she does but she's gotta wait. Still ... she needs to calm down those hormones!

Phillip think long and hard before you answer that question.

They are definitely not wasting their time! Jumping into bed is part of what caused problems last time. They both need to take a (or several) cold shower.

It's been a very long time for both of them so it's not surprising that Chloe is longing to resume their physical relationship.

Chapter 15b
While strolling back to the apartment after seeing Casablanca, Chloe asked Philip, “Do you ever think this is stupid and we're doing it for nothing?”
“What do you mean? What are we doing for nothing that seems stupid? Dating?”
“No, no. Oh gosh, no. Not dating. I’m talking about Dr. Richards’ no-sex rule. Do you think it’s a wasted effort?”
Philip ran several answers through his mind. Somehow the subject of sex seemed a little treacherous these days. “The truth? I try not to think about it too much,” Philip chuckled. But he knew Chloe was looking for a real answer, so he gave her one. “But yeah. I guess I sometimes think it seems strange.”
“Me too. Seriously,” she said, a hint of annoyance in her voice. “I mean, does she have any proof that abstaining from sex is going to make a difference? Does she have statistics?”
Philip puffed out his lower lip. “Hmmm. Not sure. But that’s a good question. We should ask her next time we see her.”
“Because things are going to work out for us either way, right? Whether we abstain or not.”
“I’m counting on it,” Philip confessed, despite that gnawing that persisted in the pit of his stomach which he tried to ignore, he refused to entertain the possibility of things not working out.
“Good. So then, should we just forget the doctor 's orders?”
Sighing, Philip shook his head. “I don't really know,” he answered, squeezing her hand as they strolled toward the condo. It was nice to hear Chloe sound so sure about their future, but there were no guarantees and this wasn’t going to be easy, sex or no sex. “I mean … okay, let’s imagine we say ‘to hell with it,’ and we go ahead and do whatever we want. And then, suppose things don’t work out? I don’t know about you, but I’d always wonder if waiting would have made a difference.”
Chloe got quiet for a minute. “I guess. But … I miss you.”
Philip smiled broadly. Those words were music to his ears. “Oh baby, don’t you know? You already have me. You just miss having sex.”
Chloe rolled her eyes and looked toward the sky. “Argh. I hate it when you're logical.”
"Tell you what," he said as he put his arm around her and squeezed her closer. “I'll work on becoming less logical.”
