I like the little father-daughter bonding moment. Thanks for the "taste" of vegemite!

Chapter 14 PAGE 27 CAFE NICOLE: So, what did happen between you and Taylor? QUIN: Oh, you know how Taylor can be. We just didn't work out. Everyone said it wouldn't, and they were right. NICOLE: Everyone? QUIN: Well, mother and Ivan, most of my mates back here, quite a bit of the internet. It's just one of those things, ya know? NICOLE: Just one of those things. Quin's phone rang. He picked it up. QUIN: Gotta take this. Excuse me. Quin stood up and walked away. NICOLE: “Just one of those thing”? Who does he think he's kidding. I don't buy that for a second. MIA: Maybe it was a bad break up. NICOLE: Honey, if Taylor was involved, it was definitely a bad break up. MIA: You think there's more to it than that, though, don't you? NICOLE: In what sense? MIA: You think that something happened to either Quin or Taylor. Something bigger than just normal break up nastiness. NICOLE: Isn't that obvious? MIA: Clear as day. NICOLE: Then, we're in agreement. Your next assignment, which I will be helping you with this time, begins. MIA: Huh? NICOLE: It's lesson time, baby girl. In order to be a good schemer, you have to be good at seeking out information. But, you have to do it on the down low. You can't always just ask someone a question and expect them to answer truthfully. Sometimes, to get to the truth, you have to dig for it. But do it in a way that doesn't leave a trace of digging behind. That's what you and I are gonna do. We're gonna dig up information on Taylor and Quin's relationship. MIA: Okay. Just one question: how does this help me with scheming to get a man? NICOLE: Most of the men you've wanted, such as Will, Chad and Brennan, have all been taken. If you want to get a man, you have to get to know him first. You find out information. Then, you find out about their significant other. You save any useful information for later. Then quickly cover it up so nobody knows what you've been doing. Then, at the precise right moment, you use the information you have and strike. That's how it's gonna help you. MIA: Cool! OUTSIDE PAGE 27 CAFE Quin walked out and answered his phone. QUIN: G'day. Pause. QUIN: Look, make this quick. I'm with some people right now. Pause. QUIN: Of course I haven't told anyone. Pause. QUIN: Well, why would I? There's no point in it. Pause. QUIN: Look, I know the risks in this. But, if this goes south, it's on you, not me. Pause. QUIN: Oh, I will. Nicole can never know what really happened.

Nicole's advice to Mia is hilarious. If I were Mia, I'd say to Nicole: "So how did all this scheming help you in getting a man?" LOL.
Oh wow. Quin is shrouded in mystery. Love it!

Chapter 15 OUTSIDE PAGE 27 CAFE Quinn was still talking on his phone. QUINN: Oh, I will. Nicole can never know what really happened. Pause. QUINN: Just that it's over, but she doesn't know the details. Quinn looked in at the restaurant. QUINN: Look, I should go. The people I'm with are almost finished with their food. Pause. QUINN: Yeah, I'll speak to you later. Bye. Quinn hung up. PAGE 27 CAFE Quinn walked in and sat back down. NICOLE: Welcome back. QUINN: Thanks. How's brekkie? MIA: It's good. Thanks. NICOLE: So, who was that on the phone? QUINN: Nobody important. NICOLE: You were out there for a while for somebody who wasn't important. QUINN: Oh, it was just a customer who was having a bit of trouble. NICOLE: A customer? Hm. QUINN: Yeah. Even though I'm out of the country, the company still has my number, and I'm still on call. I just wish they wouldn't talk for so long. The roaming charges are a killer. NICOLE: Hm. Nicole took a drink of coffee, but kept her eyes on Quinn. MIA: What kind of work do you do? QUINN: Distribution. I distribute products. MIA: What sort of products? Quinn took a drink of his coffee. QUINN: All sorts of products. Just general distributing of stuff. Quinn put his coffee down. QUINN: But enough about me. What do you guys wanna do? NICOLE: Not sure, really. Any suggestions? QUINN: Well, if you're willing to pack up again, I could take you guys on a road trip. MIA: Where to? QUINN: Uluru. NICOLE: Sounds good to me. MIA: What's Uluru? QUINN: It's the proper name for what most people call Ayers Rock. MIA: Oh yeah! Imogen and Josh told me about that! QUINN: Who? NICOLE: Brad Willis' twins. MIA: It sounds awesome! QUINN: Right, let's go then. MIA: Hang on. I'll be back in a minute. Mia went to the ladies' room. NICOLE: Right, so, now that we're alone: talk. QUINN: No idea what you mean, love. NICOLE: Don't play dumb, Quinn. It doesn't suit you. You know exactly what I mean. Now, what was that phone call really about? QUINN: I told you: customer. NICOLE: What kind of customer? Are you in the business again?

Chapter 16 PAGE 27 CAFE NICOLE: What kind of customer? Are you in the business again? Quinn sighed. QUINN: Nicole... NICOLE: Answer me, Quinn. QUINN: Look, Nik, there is a process. You don't just leave the business. NICOLE: I did. When my father got put in jail, I ran as fast as I could. QUINN: Well, you're luckier than I am, then. I don't have the luxury of just being able to walk away. NICOLE: Why not? QUINN: Because, I am one of my bosses' most successful pimps. I'm like the Heisenberg of the pimp world. NICOLE: The who? QUINN: Heisenberg. He's the alias for Walter White. NICOLE: Who? QUINN: Have you ever seen Breaking Bad? NICOLE: Nope. I always meant to, but I was too busy watching The Walking Dead. QUINN: Basically, he's a drug kingpin. NICOLE: So, you're into drugs as well? QUINN: No! Will you listen? I'm using Heisenberg as a comparison. I'm the Heisenberg of the pimp world. NICOLE: So, you're a pimp king... QUINN: Ssh! I don't want the whole world to know! Nicole noticed that a few people were staring. NICOLE: Nothing to see, people. We're just reenacting a film. Everybody went about their business again. NICOLE: So, you're a pimp kingpin? QUINN: Yes, but there's always a bigger boss. And he's not just gonna let me leave. It doesn't work like that. I'm practically the top of the ladder. But, if I were to just go now, the entire system would collapse. NICOLE (sarcastically): Well, that would be such a big loss. QUINN: Look, just don't tell Mia, okay? I don't want her to think poorly of me. NICOLE: No girl deserves to know that their father is a master pimp, so I won't. But, you need to find a way out of this. I've seen the underground, and it is not pretty. QUINN: You think I don't know that?! NICOLE: All I'm saying is: do not put my daughter in danger. QUINN: Our daughter. And, I wouldn't dream of it. Speaking of which, let's change the subject before she gets back. NICOLE: Fine. How long will this road trip take? QUINN: About six hours if we go straight to the Rock. NICOLE: We should get a hotel there, first. QUINN: Agreed. Mia walked up. MIA: Hi guys. NICOLE: Hey, kid. QUINN: Hey, love. MIA: What're you guys talking about? NICOLE: Oh, just our father's plans for the road trip. MIA: Cool! This is gonna be awesome! QUINN: Come on, let's go pack up and hit the road. Mia and Nicole got up and walked out. Quinn stayed back a minute and checked his phone. There was a message on it. QUINN (reading): If she ever finds out, you'll be joining your lovely ex.

LOL to the Breaking Bad and Walking Dead references.
It sounds like something really really bad happened to Taylor. I can't help but wonder if Vivian is somehow involved in all this.

Chapter 17 OUTBACK Listen to this song to set the tone for this scene. Nicole, Quinn and Mia sat in a car driving through the Australian outback. It was beautiful. MIA: You know, for a desert, I didn't expect it to be so green. It's gorgeous. NICOLE: It sure is. QUINN: Well, that's 'cause it's the middle of Autumn. It starts turning green in Spring. In a few weeks, this'll all be sand. It was a clear day, and though it was warm, it wasn't overly hot. At one point, they stopped for a break and to stretch their legs. Mia heard a noise. MIA: Did you guys hear that? NICOLE: Hear what? The noise came again. MIA: There it is again. Don't you guys hear that low thumping? The noise came again, several times in succession. Quinn pointed behind Mia. MIA: What? QUINN (whispering): Ssh! Behind you. Nicole and Mia turned around to see a small kangaroo hopping along. MIA: Oh my gosh! Is that...? QUINN (whispering): Sssh! The kangaroo stopped bouncing suddenly. It looked up. It turned it's head around, as though looking for something. It looked over at Nicole, Mia and Quinn. Then, it turned around and bounced away. It only hopped a few feet, though. Then, it turned back around and bounced in their direction. Then, when it was only a few feet away, it turned around and bounced the opposite direction again. It did this several more times for the next few minutes. Until, at last, it got tired and went and laid down n a patch of grass and began grazing. QUINN (whispering): Come on. The three got back in the car, but Mia watched the kangaroo grazing until they drove out of sight. MIA: Wow! That was... NICOLE: That was something else. QUINN: It must have liked one of you. It was showing off. MIA: It was so cute! QUINN: They might be cute, but they're pests if they get in your garden. MIA: Do they do that often? QUINN: It's been known to happen. Not in the cities, mind you. But here in the Outback, it's possible. NICOLE; They sound kind of like deer back home. QUINN: They're similar, yeah. Quinn looked at his watch. QUINN: Should be at the hotel in the next hour or so. MIA: I don't know why you ever wanted to leave this place, dad. It's beautiful. QUINN: It wasn't quite my choice. Just like it wasn't your mother's. MIA: I see. QUINN: Sometimes, we have to do things we don't want to do. Then, once we do them, we're trapped. HOTEL – BELFAST Quinn and Taylor stand in a hotel room. QUINN: It's not my choice, Taylor! If I could get out of it, I would! TAYLOR: You can! You just don't want to! QUINN: Of course I want to, love! Look, I don't have a choice! They've got me trapped! Wha the hell do you want from me?! TAYLOR: I want you to stop lying to me! I just want you back. The real you!
OUTBACK – NORTHERN TERRITORY, AUSTRALIA QUINN; Trapped.

This story makes me feel like I'm on vacation. Great description of the kangaroo and the Outback. I could picture it and I agree with Mia. It was cute. I loved hearing Mia call Quinn "dad."
I am looking forward to more of Quinn and Taylor's missing years!
