I'm thrilled that Philip set up a private dinner for the two of them. I really liked the descriptions of their outfits in the previous chapter.
I'm anxious to hear what Philip has to say next.

Chapter 71a
It wasn’t just the soundtrack of your life. It was the soundtrack of my life too.” He held his palm to his chest and swallowed hard. “It made me want to feel that way again.”
“Oh. I see.” Chloe’s eyes darted around nervously, intentionally avoiding Philip. Now she understood what he was trying to do. “You just want to recapture a moment.”
“No, Chloe, not just a moment,” he said, placing his hand on top of hers on the table. “I want to recapture a lifetime. The lifetime we didn’t get to have.”
Her lips parted in surprise. The poignancy of that remark nearly made Chloe cry. Her skin tingled as his thumb ran back and forth over the top of her hand. “Because I made you unhappy,” she looked downward to keep him from seeing her tears.
With his other hand, he touched her chin and she looked at him through tear-filled eyes. “Chloe, you and I have more problems than I ever thought we would.”
“I know,” she nodded. “Because of me.”
“At the same time, we have no problems at all,” he added.
She narrowed her eyes. “You mean … because they’re all in my head?”
Philip lifted the bottle of red wine and poured each of them a glass. He shrugged. “You know what my head keeps telling me,” he asked her. She shook her head no while watching him intently. “My head keeps telling me to stick to my guns. I said no to you on the plane, but the truth is … Chloe, the truth is I don’t know how to walk away from you, not when you’re willing to try again.” He set the wine bottle back on the table. “In my head I know that walking away would be the smart thing to do. But I’ve lived long enough to know that being smart probably won’t make me happy and it won’t make me stop loving you. Some guys might choose to play games, but that’s not my style.” Then out of the blue, he asked, “Did you know that Will and Sonny tried to set me up?”
“On dates?” Chloe asked with surprise.
“Yeah.”
“Oh.” She remembered Parker telling her about Daddy’s blind date, but decided it was more prudent to play dumb for now. “So … how did that go?”
“Miserably,” he answered with a chuckle.
Chloe found herself laughing for the first time all day. “Sorry to hear that.”
“Liar,” Philip laughed back. He squeezed her hand on top of the table. “Chloe, when we got divorced, I told myself I’d never do it again.”
“Never go on dates again?”
“No. I mean never fall in love again,” he clarified.
“Why not?” Chloe asked the question, but she figured she already knew the answer. “Too much trouble?”
“Noooo,” he answered, drawing out the word. “It’s because I knew I’d never stop loving you. And those aren’t just empty words,” he said sincerely. “It’s the truth. I’ve said it before. I’ve loved you from the time I was 16 and I never stopped. Even though I was in other relationships and marriages, I found I could never love anyone the way I loved you.”

Keep talking, Philip! And Chloe is doing good to keep her mouth shut. Such an emotional chapter. They have far to go, but at least there's hope left!!

Aww! I love Philip's declarations in this chapter. I hope he and Chloe give their marriage--and Dr. Richards--another try.

Chapter 71b
“I’ve loved you from the time I was 16,” Philip explained, “and I never stopped. Even though I was in other relationships and marriages, I found I could never love anyone the way I loved you.”
“I know exactly what you mean. It’s hard to top your first love.” Chloe turned her hand over and closed her fingers around Philip’s hand. “I never stopped loving you either, Philip.”
Nodding slowly, he mumbled, “And there were plenty of times I really wanted to.”
“Philip!”
“Sorry. I got sidetracked.” He scratched his temple and chuckled. “Didn’t mean to kill the mood.” Keeping hold of her hand, Philip got up from his chair. “Let me make it up to you.” He held out his other hand and Chloe took it, a little hesitantly. He pulled her to her feet and wrapped one arm around her.
“What are you doing,” Chloe asked, half-laughing.
Tightening his hold on her, he said, “I’m dancing with you.”
“Where’s the music?” she quipped.
“It’s where you said it is.” Placing her hand against his chest and holding it there, he told her, “It’s here … in my heart.”
“Oh. … Oh Philip,” she said, a little moony-eyed.
Slowly, they rocked back and forth to the unheard music. Philip closed his eyes and rested his forehead against Chloe’s, whispering, “You know, if music is the soundtrack of my life, then you’re my costar. What you described in your speech, Chloe … I want to feel that way again.”
“So do I,” Chloe answered softly.
“Not just for a day or for a year or for two years. Know what I mean?”
Allowing herself to relax in his arms as they danced, she answered, “I do.” She leaned away to look at him. “I mean, I think I do.”
Meeting her gaze, he elaborated. “What I’m saying is … this is the last time, you know? It’s got to be. You need to have more faith in me, faith in us.”
“Oh Philip, yes. I know. I’m going to work on that,” she said with total conviction. “I promise.”
“It won’t be easy,” he told her. “I meant what I said on the plane. I can’t go through that again.”
“I know.”
“We have to succeed this time,” he told her as if he were leading a business meeting. “Failure is not an option, Chloe.”

Yes yes yes yes yes. I was getting misty eyed. I'm glad Philip is acknowledging the problems and letting Chloe know it can't go on like this as well as declaring his love. This gives me so much hope for their future.

Chapter 71c
“I meant what I said on the plane,” Philip reminded her. “I can’t go through that again.”
“I know.”
“We have to succeed this time,” he told her as if he were leading a business meeting. “Failure is not an option, Chloe. That means we’ve got our work cut out for us. Couples counseling, individual counseling. Not just for Parker.”
“No, not just for Parker, I agree,” Chloe insisted. “I’ll do whatever it takes, because … because Philip, I love you so much and I absolutely hated being apart.”
Sighing, Philip looked at her and she got lost in his eyes. “Chloe, you have to know, the idea of me having an affair with another woman is insane. I don’t want another woman. I don’t love any other woman. There's just you.”
“I know. I mean, I know that now. I do.”
“Good, because this is it, Chloe. It’s happily ever after or nothing.”
Chloe laughed inadvertently and held him a little tighter.
“That wasn’t supposed to be funny,” he leaned away, a little irked.
“I know. I’m sorry,” she said, still chuckling. “It’s just that I don't think you can demand a happily ever after. It doesn't work that way.”
Philip lightened up a little and ran his hand up and down her back as they danced. “Well it does for me. I’m Philip Kiriakis, after all. Everything in my world is so sunny.”
“Right, I forgot,” she joked. “So I’m sorry to inform you that it doesn’t even work that way for a Kiriakis,” Chloe explained.
“We’ll just see about that,” he said, surprising her with a kiss. She succumbed to the kiss in an instant, holding the back of his neck as he wrapped both arms around her. She relished the softness of his wet lips drawing her into him over and over.
Even though she felt slightly lightheaded when the kiss broke, it was the best she’d felt all year. And she was still wrapped in his arms, so she knew she couldn’t fall. “Wow. Well, I can see why you always get your way,” she said, tracing his lips with her fingertip. “So if happily ever after is what you want, Soldier, then happily ever after is what you'll get.”

*applause* that was a perfect ending. I teared up. I hope there will be a sequel with them dealing as a couple with Parker. (Because I can't stand seeing those words THE END. Lol)
Anyway I teared up. Beautiful dialogue and ending.
