It's sad to see Chloe going from feeling good about her speech to feeling hopeless and foolish. I can't wait to see Philip's reaction to her speech.

Chloe took too long to realize all this, but at least she's there and she gets it. Now where to go from there? I guess the ball is in Philip's court...

Chapter 69a
Chloe’s life began when she met Philip. He literally brought her to life, made it okay for her to feel things. He knew what she was feeling before she did. Until Philip came into her life, she was afraid of her own feelings. Chloe’s thoughts and feelings still scared her sometimes, because they usually caused her to act like an idiot.
Philip once wrote a poem for her that he called “Tell Me What You’re Thinking,” but she didn’t really have to tell him what she was thinking. He already knew. She often thought he knew her better than she knew herself, and that never changed. Yes, Chloe’s life began when she met Philip, and, without him, she felt like her life might end.
She blinked back her tears, along with a shot of eye drops, then did one more check in the mirror and took a long deep breath before leaving the ladies room. She started walking back toward the ballroom when she felt someone grab her arm from behind. She turned around.
“Philip!” Her eyes flashed. He was without question the last person she wanted to see right now.
“That was some speech,” he said, dropping his hand to his side. She couldn’t quite tell how he meant that. Once upon a time, she was really good at reading him, but her Philip-signal was obviously on the fritz, because she'd been reading him incorrectly for a long time.
Chloe felt herself redden. “Look, I’m sorry. I didn’t know you were going to be listening, and if it got too personal, well, it sort of had to,” she rambled defensively. She really wished he hadn’t been there to hear it. For some reason, it was much easier to share her emotions with strangers than with someone she knew. Hmmm, that in itself seemed like a problem — something she should talk to Dr. Richards about in their next therapy session. “See I was trying to tell the story of my life through music in less than fifteen minutes and, like it or not, you’re part of that story.”

WHOA! Talk about a cliffhanger. Once again you make me glad it's not Friday Kpatch! Chloe is such a mess emotionally. I wonder how this conversation is going to go and what Philip is going to say.

I'm also very glad that it's not Friday, Kpatch. I'm not sure I could endure the wait if I had to wait all weekend to find out what came next! I really want to know what Philip is going to say!

Bad that she automatically jumped to being defensive but good that Chloe understands that she's been misreading Philip and that she needs to talk to Dr Richards!

I can't wait to see what Philip has to say. I don't blame Chloe a bit for being defensive. After the scene on the plane Chloe has no reason to think Philip will react positively to the personal nature of her speech. She's probably very eager for the day to be over.

I hope that Chloe's tone doesn't annoy Philip and that maybe they can have a real discussion!

Chapter 69b
“I was trying to tell the story of my life through music in less than fifteen minutes,” she rambled on defensively, “and, like it or not, you’re part of that story.”
“I get that.” Philip nodded without expression. “It just wasn’t what I expected.”
She narrowed her eyes at Philip, trying to look intimidating instead of the emotional wreck she felt like inside. “Shall I clear it with you in the future?”
Philip shook his head slowly, and in a business-like tone, he answered, “No, not unless you want to.” Then with some unexpected admiration, he told her, “You know, you had the audience eating out of your hand.”
Chloe immediately softened, but she still wasn’t quite sure he was being sincere. “You really think so?”
“Yeah, definitely,” he said. “You conveyed DreamTune’s point of differentiation without the hard sell. I was impressed and … and moved.”
So he was being sincere. “Thank you Philip. That means a lot to me.” It really did.
“Are you free for dinner?”
Chloe shook herself. After that plane ride, she figured he would want to steer as far away from her as possible. But Philip was in business mode, his tone was serious and his expression stony, so she took the bait. “Why? Do you have some prospects?”
Philip looked away for a moment to consider Chloe’s question. “Yes,” he answered, looking back at her.
“That’s great.” The truth is, Chloe really didn’t feel like putting on a fake smile and talking shop with some strangers — and Philip. She dreaded the thought of sitting across the table from Philip after she bared her soul to him, with him knowing how she felt, and she knowing how he felt. Plus, she'd been planning to get in that much-needed massage tonight. Her shoulders were tight and her feet were killing her and she wanted to pull a blanket over her head and forget today ever happened. Still, she was in Reno on the company’s dime, so she merely said, “What time?”
Philip pushed up his sleeve a little to reveal his wrist watch. “Say seven?”
“K,” she uttered with a bit of uncertainty.
“I’ll meet you right here.”

Oooh... what a great cliffhanger. (If I forgot it was Friday I'd know by reading your chapter Kpatch). I'm hoping that the prospects Philip has are he, him, and himself. Will there be previews?

I'm glad that Philip complimented Chloe on her speech. I don't think she was expecting that. I hope dinner goes much better than she is anticipating. I'm anxious to see what happens next.

That was a nice compliment Philip gave Chloe. I hope that it's the start of them softening towards each other. I also hope that we will get previews for next week. May we please, Kpatch?
