Chapter 67c
Readers, please click the link to listen to the music now playing in the background during Chloe's speech: LeAnn Rimes "I Need You"
“Who here has a song that, when you hear it, it transports you to another time and you feel now what you felt then, as if it was happening in the present instead of the past?”
People in the audience started calling out names of songs, like I’ll Be There, Stand By Me, Night Moves, and Sweet Caroline. One man yelled out “Five O’Clock Somewhere” and the crowd burst out in laughter.
“Ironically, for me, that song in my head isn’t Für Elise, even though it’s my favorite of the classics. And it isn’t even from an opera. It was a song that changed the course of my life, the song I danced to at my first high school prom — ‘I Need You’ by Leann Rimes.”
On the screen behind Chloe was a still shot of her and Philip dancing at the prom and the song I Need You playing on audio.
“I fell in love to that song. And to this day, every time I hear that song, I’m right back there, falling in love all over again. The music recaptures that feeling in a way that nothing else can.
Sometimes, you want to remember a feeling forever, you want it to last, but it doesn’t. The feeling is gone, but the song lives on. But when you hear the song, it revives the feeling.”
Chloe got choked up again and had to pause for a minute.
“See what I mean? It still gets to me. … Like I said, I don't know a lot about big business, but I do know music. We started DreamTunes, not to be just another cookie cutter music download provider, but to bring emotions to life. Music with the power to make you feel. It's why we exist, to help define the soundtrack of your life. Because if music doesn't make you feel something, it's not worth listening to. Like DreamTunes’ slogan says: ‘Don’t just listen to music … feel it.’ Thank you.”
Chloe left the podium as the audience applauded energetically. A few people even rose to their feet. It had been years since she received a standing ovation and she had forgotten how thrilling that felt. She returned to her seat at the dais where the other speakers were seated at the front of the room. A few of her table-mates shook her hand or patted her arm approvingly.
As the next speaker was introduced, Chloe blew some air through her lips and felt herself relax. When she gazed out at the tables in the ballroom, her eyes fell on a familiar face at a table near the back of the room. Oh no! It was Philip.

I think you have a typo... It should say 'Oh yes! It was Philip!' ;-) That's what I was thinking! Is it tomorrow yet?

I like seeing Chloe receive such a positive reaction to her speech. I'm wondering how much of the speech Philip heard. Hopefully he was there for most if not all of it. I can't wait to see what happens now that Chloe sees Philip in the audience.

Yay! And perhaps the audience response to her speech will make her feel a little more settled and confident in her job...

Chapter 68a
As the next speaker was introduced, Chloe blew some air through her lips and felt herself relax. When she gazed out at the tables in the ballroom, her eyes fell on a familiar face at a table near the back of the room. Oh no! It was Philip.
She had no idea he was here. She wondered whether he’d been there the whole time or if he only just arrived. Did he see the entire presentation? Some of it? None of it? She vaguely remembered asking him not to come, and she really wished he hadn’t. But there he was. Right now, he was chatting with a man sitting next to him, doing his PR job as President of Titan Media. After a minute he looked up and their eyes met. He nodded at her.
Chloe looked away, turning to face the speaker at the podium, but she didn’t hear a word he said. She was so flustered over seeing Philip. She wondered what he thought of her presentation, both as her boss and as her ex. Was it too personal? Did he mind her showing a picture of them, a picture of their son? Suddenly she felt flushed. She felt foolish and embarrassed.
When she created the presentation after learning the truth, she’d been hopeful about a second chance, a future with Philip. Her speech was filled with emotion and renewed hope. But he couldn’t have been any clearer on the plane about his intentions. He didn’t have any; they were over. Over and out. So he must have been mortified to see her trotting out their life story for the world to see.
As soon as the next speaker was finished, Chloe rushed out of the ballroom and went to the ladies room to splash her face with cold water. Philip could still get to her, just like always. She looked in the mirror and dabbed the moisture with a paper towel, trying not to disturb her makeup.
For the past week, she rehearsed in her mind what she would say to Philip, how she’d tell him she knew he’d been faithful to her and she wanted to get back together. For the past week, there was reason to be hopeful. But now, all hope was gone. She’d finally done it. She killed what they once had, what they always had. Her insecurities and distrust created that self-fulfilling prophecy about love coming to a tragic ending. Well, it may not have been a tragedy in the sense that there was death by poison or gunshots or airplane crashes, but to Chloe, it felt like a tragedy nonetheless. It was a sad sad ending to a beautiful love story.
Sure, there’d been other men, but Philip was the love of her life, her home base, her safety net, and she was devastated that he was never going to forgive her for not trusting him enough, and for putting their family through hell. She couldn’t forgive herself either, so deep down, she couldn’t really blame him.
She was nowhere near ready to think about what life might be like without Philip. Dr. Richards had said they’re connected forever through Parker. But it wasn’t just through Parker. Their connection ran so much deeper than that.
Chloe’s life began when she met Philip. He literally brought her to life, made it okay for her to feel things. He knew what she was feeling before she did. Until Philip came into her life, she was afraid of her own feelings.

Great chapter!!!! I can't wait to see what Philip's reaction actually is. I feel bad for Chloe. She's learning the hard way. For now anyway.
