Chapter 70a
At seven o’clock, Chloe was already waiting for Philip near the elevators adjacent to the resort’s conference hall. The lantern-style lighting cast a glow on the terra cotta tile flooring, giving the space a sepia-tone quality.
She was wearing a lavender cocktail length dress with a pearl gray shawl draped over her shoulders in case the restaurant they were going to was cold. She thought she looked really good tonight, which was no small miracle after the day she had and she gave total credit to the Sephora cosmetics assortment she brought with her. Because if she looked as exhausted as she felt after the day she had, she’d probably scare away the new-business prospect, especially considering the harrowing plane ride, the emotion-charged conversation with Philip, finding out Parker punched Nancy, then having to give a presentation to several hundred digital music-industry executives. What a day! She’d just as soon forget the whole thing and pretend today never happened.
She really wanted to crawl up under the covers in a pitch black hotel room and sleep until noon tomorrow. But she was here to do a job, and Philip asked her to join him in a meeting with prospective clients. She hoped they’d stick to small talk, safe subjects, nothing personal.
She turned around and did a double-take when Philip stepped off the elevator. She expected him to be wearing a suit to meet potential clients; he almost always wore a suit. But instead, he was wearing a black button-down shirt with a black leather jacket and black slacks. He looked sharp, she thought. Then again, when didn’t he? She guessed they must be meeting with some young, hotshot entertainment types that would be turned off by suits.
While Philip strolled over to where she was standing, she started to feel a little self-conscious. “I guess I should have asked who we’re meeting with and where. I think I’m overdressed.”
He stopped in front of her and eyed her up and down, raising his forearms and lightly touching each of her elbows. She thought for a minute he was going to hug her. “No, you’re perfect,” he said, surprising her.
“Oh. Um. Okay.” His light touch and the way he looked at her and his dimples and the comment he made had all just conspired to throw her off balance. It had been a long time since she received a compliment like that from Philip. “So, where are we going,” she asked, searching his eyes.
Smiling, he merely said, “You’ll see.”

Great descriptions! I can just see both of them in their beautiful clothes. I wonder if the business in question has to do with undoing their divorce or something. Philip definitely seems to be softening towards Chloe and I hope that means a reconciliation is in the air.

Wait ... what? I somehow missed the previews. I was hoping that Philip was surprising Chloe with a dinner for two. But maybe you are misleading us and Chloe will be surprised to discover who their dinner companions are because they're people who don't exist! Or he flew Nancy and Craig and Parker and Maggie and Victor there to be together as a family. Ok, clearly, I'm getting delusional. I'll just wait until tomorrow. You know, it's Tuesday morning in parts of the world, so I think it's time for an update ...

Chapter 70b
“So, where are we going,” she asked, searching his eyes.
Smiling, he merely said, “You’ll see.” He touched the small of her back to guide her toward the sliding doors and out onto the hotel’s grounds. It was a typically hot and arid Nevada evening. The air was heavy with the scent of cactus, and the cloudless sky was dotted with stars. As they got closer to their destination, she spotted a gazebo 50 yards away wrapped in tiny white lights. Inside was a table for two with votive candles and wine glasses. It looked like a romantic dinner for two.
Chloe stopped in her tracks, totally confused now.“Um. Philip. What’s this?”
“Corny, huh?”
She looked at him quizzically as he stood next to her smiling. “I don’t understand. You said we were meeting prospective clients.”
“That’s not exactly what I said,” he corrected her. “You asked if I had prospects. And I said ‘yes.’ Because I do. But it has nothing to do with clients. It has to do with us, you and me.”
Philip gestured toward the gazebo and Chloe continued walking in that direction, feeling slightly dazed. When they entered the gazebo, he slid her chair out for her. She sat down and he briefly squeezed her shoulders from behind before taking the seat adjacent to hers, rather than across from her.
She let her scarf slide off her arms and onto the chair. Then she shook herself, not sure what to make of all this. “I don’t understand. Were you kidnapped and replaced with a double? On the plane, you said we were done.”
“I know. You don’t need to quote me,” he smiled and touched her hair for moment. “Chloe, the things you said in your speech about music making you feel a certain way? As soon as I heard the Four Seasons, I had the exact same memory as you.”
“From when I was in the hospital.”
“Right. And when you showed that clip of the Last Blast dance, and played I Need You, it all came flooding back, just like you said. It wasn’t just the soundtrack of your life. It was the soundtrack of my life too.” He held his palm to his chest and swallowed hard. “It made me want to feel that way again.”
“Oh. I see.” Chloe’s eyes darted around nervously, intentionally avoiding Philip. Now she understood what he was trying to do. “You just want to recapture a moment.”

Girl, don't mess this up!! I think Chloe needs to just keep quiet for a while. That'll probably make things go better! I'm glad the dinner is for two, after all!
