Chapter 22 PARK Rhiannon and J.J. kissed. After a few moments, they broke away. RHIANNON: Sorry. J.J.: Don't be. I liked it. RHIANNON: So did I. I just...it was unexpected. J.J.: Is that bad? RHIANNON: No, not at all. Like I said, I liked it. J.J.: So, what's going on? RHIANNON: I just...I don't know. I'm confused. J.J.: About what? RHIANNON: A lot. I'm trying to figure out what's going on. I thought I had it figured out, but now I'm not sure. J.J.: Well, if you need any help, let me know. I'm here for you. RHIANNON: Thanks. The thing I do know is that I love you. J.J.: I love you, too. Again, J.J. ran a finger through Rhiannon's hair. J.J.: Wanna go get an ice cream? RHIANNON: Yeah. That sounds good. SAMI & LUCAS' HOUSE - SYDNEY'S BEDROOM Sydney and Ceri were lying on Sydney's bed, arms wrapped around each other. SYDNEY: I know I say this almost every day, but you are the most amazing girl in the world. CERI: So are you. The most amazing ever. SYDNEY: I'm so glad I met you. You've made me the happiest girl in the world. CERI: I'm glad we met, too. I'd never want us to be apart. Then, there was a knock on the door. SYDNEY: I should open the door, but I don't wanna leave your arms. CERI: Me either. The two laughed as another knock came. CERI: Go on. SYDNEY; I guess. Sydney got up and opened the door to reveal Ari. SYDNEY: Ari? ARI: Hey, Sydney. SYDNEY: What are you doing here? ARI: I'm home for the summer. Who's your friend? SYDNEY: Oh, yeah, you two haven't met yet. This is Ceri. Ceri, this is my niece, Ari. Ceri waved. CERI: Hi. ARI: Hey. So, this is your girlfriend? SYDNEY: Yep. Sydney walked over to the bed and put an arm around Ceri. ARI: Pretty. SYDNEY: So, when did you get in? ARI: A few days ago. I wanted to come see you. SYDNEY: Cool. Ari stared at Ceri. CERI: Is there something in my teeth? ARI: Sorry for staring. You're just really pretty. TITAN Brady was in his office again, trying to work on some paperwork. There was a knock on the door. BRADY: Come in. Brady's secretary, Chrissy, opened the door with a man behind her. CHRISSY: Someone to see you, Mr. Black. MAN: You Brady Black? BRADY: Who wants to know? MAN: I do. That's why I asked. BRADY: Yeah, I'm Brady Black. Why? MAN: I'm Philip Kiriakis' lawyer. The man handed Brady an envelope. MAN: And you've been served.

Not sure I am liking how Ari is responding to Ceri. Fireworks are just around the corner at Titan.

Chapter 23 SAMI & LUCAS' HOUSE - SYDMEY'S BEDROOM CERI: Thanks. SYDNEY: So, how long are you in town for? ARI: I don't know. A while, probably. SYDNEY: Don't you have to go back to boarding school next month for summer session? ARI: No, I'm not going back there. SYDNEY: How come? ARI: It's complicated. SYDNEY: Oh? ARI: Yeah. Never going back there again. I hated it. SYDNEY: Gotcha. ARI: Well, I suppose I should go see Grandpa John, since I told him I was in town. Good to see you, Sydney. SYDNEY: You too. ARI: And it was very nice to meet you, Ceri. CERI: Thanks. Ari winked and walked out. Ceri waited until she was out of earshot. CERI: What was all that about? SYDNEY: What? That's just Ari. She's friendly. CERI: I think that was more than friendly. SYNDEY: No, that's just the way she is. She's always like that. CERI: Syd, I think she was trying to flirt. SYDNEY: No way. She was just happy to meet you, that's all. CERI: I hope you're right. WILL & SONNY'S HOUSE Will was pacing through the living room, on the phone. WILL: You're sure you've got all that? Pause. WILL: It's gotta be perfect. Pause. WILL: Okay, good. Thank you. Pause. WILL: Yeah, three weeks from now. That's when it'll be. KIRIAKIS MANSION A few hours later, Brady walked into the Mansion. Philip was sitting at his computer in the dining room. Brady put the envelope down on the table. BRADY: What the hell is this? PHILIP: Oh, it was delivered to you already. He is quick. BRADY: You're blocking me out of my own company?! PHILIP: It's not your company, Brady, it's mine. As I am not dead, the rights to Titan go to me. BRADY: But since you are still legally dead, the legal rights to Titan go to me. PHILIP: Not anymore. BRADY: Okay, something else is going on here. I told you you could come back to Titan as my assistant until everything was cleared up. PHILIP: And I told you to stick your assistant position where the sun doesn't shine. BRADY: That was only this afternoon. There is no way that you could have hired a lawyer, drawn up this letter pushing me out of my company, reinstating yourself, and having it delivered to me in one day? PHILIP: Hey, what can I say? I think fast, I talk fast, and my new lawyer works fast. Let's just call this getting ahead of the game. BRADY: Well, you won't be gaining another inch on me, that's for sure. Philip chuckled. PHILIP: Brady, I already have. Titan belongs to me. I told you that I would get it one way or another. By any means necessary. BRADY: And I am telling you, that I am going to fight this. Your memory still isn't 100%, Philip. You can't go back to work yet. PHILIP: My doctors say I can. And my memory might not be 100%, but it's getting closer and closer every hour. Being back at Titan this afternoon, that just brought back a whole lot of memories. I spoke with my physician on the phone this afternoon. He thinks that I am more than capable of going back to work. Since you wouldn't let me back in to my old position, I had to force you out. Face it, Brady, I win.

Chapter 24 SAMI & LUCAS' HOUSE - SYDNEY'S BEDROOM It was now a few days later. Ceri was sitting towards the top of the bed, with Sydney lying down, her head in her lap. Ceri was gently stroking Sydney's hair. CERI: Is it any better? SYDNEY: A little less painful than yesterday. Sydney had not felt well for the last two days. She had a terrible headache. These were not uncommon for her, but had been more frequent when E.J. had still been alive. It had been many months since she'd had a headache this bad. CERI: I think you should get this checked out. SYDNEY: I hate doctors. CERI: I know. I do, too. But, I also hate seeing you feel like this. SYDNEY: I'll get it checked out tomorrow. CERI: Okay. I'm glad it isn't happening as much, but it sucks that it's still happening at all. SYDNEY: You're telling me. CERI: Is there anything I can get you? Anything you need? Sydney shook her head. SYDNEY: No thanks. I'm gonna try to sleep. CERI: Okay. I'm here if you need anything. SYDNEY: Thanks. KIRIAKIS LAW FIRM Sonny had joined the business his father started and became a lawyer. Both he and Justin worked from the same office. Brady was in talking with Justin. JUSTIN: That's all he said? BRADY: Most of it. JUSTIN: If I'm gonna have any chance at all of helping you, I need to know everything he said. BRADY: He also said that there was no way in hell that I would get his company back until he was dead...again. JUSTIN: Did he have the documents filed properly? BRADY: Perfectly. Whoever his new lawyer is, he's good. JUSTIN: Have him send the files over to me. I'll love them over, see what we can do. BRADY: That's it? JUSTIN: Well, until I see the documentation, there's not much I can do. Did Philip seem to be in his right mind? BRADY: He's as ruthless as ever, just like he became after grandfather passed. JUSTIN: He took Uncle Vic's death hard. Almost became the new Uncle Vic. BRADY: You're telling me. I worked with the guy. He doesn't have his memory back, though. Not all the way. Most of it's there, but there's little things. JUSTIN: I'll see what I can do with that. But, I will need those documentations cutting you off from all rights and reinstating Philip to head of the board as soon as possible. BRADY: Okay. Thanks, Justin. I'm sorry to have to do this to family. JUSTIN: Well, I feel the same way, but if it had to be anyone, I'm glad you came to me. Brady and Justin shook hands.

Chapter 25 SAMI & LUCAS' HOUSE - SYDNEY'S BEDROOM A few hours later, Sydney woke up again. Ceri was still gently running a finger through her hair. SYDNEY: Hey. CERI: Hey. How did you sleep? SYDNEY: Good. CERI: Do you feel any better? SYDNEY: A little, I guess. CERI: Should I grab the bucket? Sydney gave a small smile. SYDNEY: No, not this time. Ceri smiled, too. CERI: Good. SYDNEY: What have you been doing this whole time? CERI: Nothing much, really. I listened to a little bit of music while you were sleeping. Other than that, I've just been sitting here playing with your hair. SYDNEY: I like it when you play with my hair. It's soothing. That must have been why I was able to go to sleep so quickly. CERI: Maybe. SYDNEY: Hey, when I go to the doctor tomorrow, will you come with me? I'm not a big fan of doctors, and I would feel better with you there. CERI: Of course I will. SYDNEY: Thanks. I love you. CERI: I love you. Ceri kissed Sydney on the forehead. CERI: I'm glad you're starting to feel better. SYDNEY: Me too. I hate feeling like this, especially when it's a 3-day one like this. CERI: Well, I'm sure the doctor will figure out what's wrong. SYDNEY: Me too. CERI: Anything I can get you? SYDNEY: No thanks. An we cuddle for a bit, though? CERI: Sure. Ceri laid down next to Sydney and put her arms around her. WILL & SONNY'S HOUSE Will was on the phone. WILL: In two weeks, that's right. Pause. WILL: Do you think you can make it back? Pause. WILL: That's great! Pause. WILL: Yeah, it's gonna be awesome! Pause. WILL: No, definitely not gonna end up like last time. Pause. WILL: Okay, thanks. Pause. WILL: You too. Bye. Will hung up the phone. WILL: Well, that's her on the list. Now I just gotta invite...everyone else.

I hope Sydney doesn't have something seriously wrong.

Chapter 26 SALEM UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL The next day, Sydney and Ceri were sitting in the doctor's office. SYDNEY: I feel fine, I promise. CERI: I know. But, you promised that, even if you felt better, you would get checked out. SYDNEY: I know. And I am. Then, Kayla walked in. KAYLA: Hello, Sydney. SYDNEY: Hi, Aunt Kayla. KAYLA: Please, call me Dr. Johnson. SYDNEY: But, I always call you Aunt Kayla. KAYLA: That's because you've never seen me as a doctor. In this room, I am Dr. Johnson. Outside of this room, I'm Aunt Kayla. SYDNEY: Okay...Dr. Johnson. KAYLA: Now, what seems to be the problem? SYDNEY: Well, for the last three days, I've had this really terrible headache. It's gone now, but it was really bad. KAYLA: On a scale of one to ten, how bad? SYDNEY: About a 7, I think. KAYLA: I see. What happened when you got the headache? SYDNEY: Well, like I said, it lasted for three days. I felt really tired, even after sleeping for a long time. Anytime I tried to do anything, I felt like the room was spinning. I threw up a few times all three days. The only thing that I could really do was lie down and try not to think about it. Kayla wrote some things down on a note pad. KAYLA: I see. Have you had headaches like these before? SYDNEY: Yeah. I get them every couple months. KAYLA: How long have you been having them? SYDNEY: I don't know, really. I think I've been getting them since I was about ten. KAYLA: How long do they normally last? Are they always three days? SYDNEY: Not always. Sometimes they last a few hours, sometimes a day, sometimes three. Kayla wrote more. KAYLA: Is there anything in particular that you can recall doing the day before these headaches come? SYDNEY: Not that I can recall. I think it may have something to do with stress. When I went through that stuff a few years ago, I got them a lot more. Kayla wrote more. KAYLA: I see. Kayla put the pad down. KAYLA: Well, I have a fair idea of what might be wrong, but I want to make sure. I'm gonna have you go down to the lab and get some bloodwork done. SYDNEY (under her breath): Great. KAYLA: Then, when the results are finished, I'll have you come back, and we'll go from there. SYDNEY: Okay. Thanks, Aunt...I mean, Dr. Johnson. KAYLA: You're welcome. Kayla handed Sydney some papers. KAYLA: The labs are down the hall, first right. Sydney and Ceri got up and left the room. WILL & SONNY'S HOUSE Will is on the phone. WILL: Yes, I realize it's only half a week away. Pause. WILL: Well, do you think you can do it or not? Pause. WILL: You know I have the money. Can you do it or not? Pause. WILL: Okay, then. Good. No problem. Pause. WILL: Thanks, bye. Will hung up the phone. WILL: This is gonna be good! The phone rang again. WILL: Will Horton. Pause. WILL: Hi, yeah, thanks for getting back to me so soon. Look, I know it's only a week and a half away, but I really need you to send your best D.J...

Chapter 27 SALEM UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL CHELSEA: Make a fist, please. Chelsea had become a nurse in the interim two years. She was preparing Sydney for her blood draw. She got out an alcohol wipe and rubbed it over a vein in Sydney's arm. SYDNEY: How are the girls? Since we last saw her, Chelsea had given birth to her triplets, who were now about two. All three of her and Max's children are girls. CHELSEA: They're good. They miss you and Ceri. CERI: We miss them, too. CHELSEA: Max and I are hoping to go out this weekend. Would you be available to watch them? SYDNEY: I'm good with it if you are. CERI: Sounds great to me. CHELSEA: Thanks. Chelsea got out a needle, connected a vial to it, and then felt the vein one last time. CHELSEA: This may sting a little bit. Sydney took a deep breath. SYDNEY: I hate blood. Ceri walked over and put her hand in Sydney's free hand. CERI: Sydney, it's okay, darlin'. Look at me. Don't even think about that over there. Just look at me. Squeeze my hand if you have to. The needle went in and Sydney's grip on Ceri tightened. She started breathing heavily. Ceri got down to look Sydney eye-to-eye. CERI: Hey, it's okay. You're okay. Just look at me. Just look at my eyes, Sydney. Sydney's breathing slowed to normal. CERI: It's all right. It's almost over now. Though she still held her hand, Sydney's grip on Ceri's hand loosened a little bit. After a moment, Chelsea capped the vial and took out the needle. CHELSEA: Done. CERI: There we go. Hey. Hey, it's okay. It's all over now. Sydney looked down, and was instantly sorry that she had. Chelsea had yet to put the band aid on, and a small spot of blood sat on Sydney's arm. She quickly shut her eyes tight. Ceri started rubbing Sydney's free arm. CERI: It's okay. Chelsea's taking care of it. It'll be fine, sweetie, I promise. Chelsea put a band aid on. CERI: There. See? It's okay now. Slowly, Sydney opened her eyes. Chelsea brought her a glass of water. SYDNEY: Thanks. CHELSEA: You're welcome. The test results should be done by tomorrow. Dr. Johnson will call you when they're in. SYDNEY: Okay, thanks. Sydney drank the water, then stood up. CERI: You hungry? Sydney nodded. CERI: Come on, let's get some breakfast. SYDNEY: Okay. Bye, Chelsea. CERI: Bye, Chelsea. CHELSEA: Bye, girls. WILL & SONNY'S HOUSE Will was continuing his phone conversation. WILL: They tell me you're the best. Pause. WILL: Yeah, once. You did a party for a kind of relative of mine a few years ago. Pause. WILL: So, you'll do it? Pause. WILL: Great! Thanks! Pause. WILL: Oh, you choose. You're the D.J. Pause. WILL: Okay, sounds good. I'll meet you at the Pub in a few days. Pause. WILL: Thanks, T.Y. Looking forward to it.
