Thanks for reading and commenting. Love reading your thoughts. So happy that everyone is loving the arrival of Craig. I think maybe he'll stick around a while. Here are some previews for the upcoming week. It's a good one! Melanie is furious with Philip.
EJ pressures Philip.
Daniel’s play date is interrupted.
Craig visits the mansion to see Parker.
Those at the board meeting learn some horrible news.

Chapter 37
Melanie walked up to the nurses station to retrieve a patient file and she saw her father standing at the counter with his back to her. She came around the counter. “Hi Dad. ... Oh my god,” she said when she saw the bruises on his face. “What happened?? What happened to you? Were you in a car accident?”
Daniel touched the black and blue marks on his jaw. “What? This?” He laughed it off. “It’s nothing. Got into a fight in a saloon.”
Jennifer entered the nurses station and set a stack of papers on the counter. “I think you just want to make my job more difficult,” she interjected. “I’ve been getting questions all morning from people wanting to know why our chief surgeon looks in worse shape than most of our patients.”
Daniel looked at Jennifer. “I hope you’re telling them it’s none of their business.”
Maxine joined the conversation. “Now Dr J., you know this is Salem. Everything is everybody’s business here.”
Melanie was clearly unnerved. “Dad, please tell me. What really happened?”
“Nothing pumpkin. I just let my temper get the best of me. But hey, you should see the other guy.”
Just then the elevator opened and Philip stepped off. All eyes turned to look at him.
Melanie’s jaw dropped. “Oh no,” she said as she walked back around the counter toward Philip, taking note of his bruises. “Oh no, please don’t tell me. Philip is the other guy?? What’s wrong with you,” she yelled at Philip. Then she turned back to Daniel. “What’s wrong with both of you?”
Melanie turned her attention to Philip again and she pushed on his chest with both hands. “How dare you beat up my father like that! Are you for real?? You’re supposed to be an adult, a professional businessman. Not a member of a street gang.”
Philip looked at Melanie but didn’t respond. Why was he the one who was supposed to act like a professional, he wondered. What about her father? Why wasn't Daniel accountable too?
“Say something,” she insisted.
“I’m sorry, Melanie,” he said sincerely. “I’m sorry you’re upset.”
“Oh, I see. But you’re not sorry you beat up my dad. That’s what you really mean, isn’t it?”
Philip looked over at Daniel. “I’m just sorry things are the way they are,” he said quietly. “That’s all.”
The elevator doors opened again and EJ stepped onto the third floor. “My my, I thought our meeting was in the boardroom, but it appears to be here in the lobby.”
Philip looked over his shoulder. “No, it’s in the boardroom. Dad and Brady are probably already in there.”
EJ gripped Philip’s shoulder and whispered to him. “Might I have a word with you before the meeting begins?” EJ gestured toward the corridor. “Shall we?”
Philip squinted at EJ. “Sure, fine, whatever.”
After Philip and EJ left the lobby area, Daniel checked his watch. “Well, I’m off shift. And I have a play date with my son at the park, so if you’ll all excuse me. ... Maxine, you know how to reach me if there’s an emergency.”

I liked Maxine's answer. Obviously everyone will be curious about Daniel's appearance. Looking forward to EJ and Philip's conversation.

I liked Philip's response to Melanie. He doesn't owe her any answers.

Philip's response to Melanie--that he's sorry things are the way they are--was a good one.
If I were Philip, though, I wouldn't go anywhere (especially alone) with EJ DiMera...

Chapter 38
EJ’s arm was draped around Philip’s shoulder as they walked to the far end of the hospital corridor. Philip shrugged EJ’s arm off, opening the door that led to a little terrace.
“What do you want, Dimera?”
“I want to know why you haven’t executed our plan.”
“Our plan?” Philip looked around and laughed. “We,” Philip pointed back and forth to himself and EJ, “We don’t have a plan. I’m just a pawn in your sick little scheme and I could kill you for what you’ve done to my family.”
“Keep your anger in check, my man, or else you’ll pop a vein in your skull. It’s time to end the charade, Philip.”
“What the hell are you talking about?”
“By now I’m sure you know without a doubt that you’re Parker’s father. So why haven’t you told the doctor? That’s your job, you know. Don’t you recall that you’re supposed to do the heavy lifting for me so I can sit back and watch Daniel Jonas implode? He needs to pay for lying to me and saying that Nicole was not carrying my child. He needs to lose his child.”
Philip shook his head. “You’re a piece of crap, Dimera. Just waiting around looking down at us from your perch, pulling the strings, thinking you can make us dance to your music. Well guess what? I’m not your puppet. I’m not interested in making Daniel suffer, even if I hate his guts. I have more important things to think about.”
“Such as?”
“Such as, none of your damn business. You want to tell Jonas he’s not Parker’s father, go right ahead. I’m sick and tired of being manipulated by you. My life can’t get much worse. So go do your own dirty work, you bastard.”
Philip pulled open the terrace door angrily and walked back inside the hospital. EJ followed Philip down the hall to the boardroom for their meeting.

I'm glad Philip said those things to EJ. Philip is focused on helping Chloe not punishing Daniel. I wonder if EJ will wait for the truth to be revealed.

Chapter 39
Daniel carried Parker up the ladder of the little slide. He’d been taking Parker to the playground on Tuesday mornings for weeks now and he’d gotten to know the other parents and children pretty well. Several of them were single dads like himself, carving out some time to spend with their children.
Daniel sat down at the top of the slide, tucked Parker safely in his arms and slid down together. “Wheeeee,” Daniel said, watching Parker’s eyes grow big.
By the time they got to the bottom, Parker was giggling like crazy. “Again,” he enthused.
Daniel crouched down so he was at eye level with Parker. “Want to go on again, little man?”
“Mysef!” Parker pointed to his own chest.
“Maybe next year,” Daniel chuckled. “You need to be just a couple inches taller to go on these rides yourself, okay?”
Out of the corner of his eye, Daniel noticed a woman’s high heels next to him. He looked up. “Jennifer.”
“I’m not stalking you, really I’m not.”
Daniel rose to his feet. “But you heard me say I was taking Parker to the playground.”
“Yes, I did. Okay, so maybe I am stalking you.”
“Why?”
“You know why, Daniel. I miss you. I miss you so so much. I miss us.”
Daniel closed his eyes for a moment. “We’ve been over this, Jennifer. I’m not sneaking around with you and I’m not pretending I don’t care about you just so that JJ can ... how do you always put it ... get better.”
“Suppose JJ isn’t a factor anymore?”
“Huh? What do you mean? He’s your son. He’ll always be a factor.”
“I’ve been looking into military academy for JJ.”
“Seriously.” Daniel was skeptical.
Jennifer nodded. “His behavior is unacceptable. He’s going to wind up in jail if he keeps dealing drugs, and I’m not going to be able to keep him out of trouble.”
“And JJ is okay with going to military school?”
“Yes, I think so,” she said. “See, a few days ago, I went to a local recruiting office and talked to the sergeant. I explained everything to him and ... Daniel, he was the nicest man. He came to the house and met JJ and they had this instant rapport. JJ wants to go. Can you believe it? He actually wants to.”
“So that means....”
“It means we can be together, if you still want to.”
“Still want to? Of course I still want to.” Daniel pulled Jennifer closer, wrapped his arm around her and kissed her hard. “I’ve missed you so much,” he said against her lips.
“Oh me too, Daniel. I’ve really really missed you.”
Daniel looked into Jennifer’s eyes and was about to kiss her again when a look of fear crossed his face. “Parker. Where’s Parker?”
Daniel looked around and a few yards away, he saw Parker climbing on a jungle gym. “Parker!”
Parker was on the third rung of the monkey bars. He was startled when Daniel called his name. Daniel reached out to the air and helplessly watched as Parker lost his footing and fell to the ground.
“Parker no!” Daniel yelled, running to the child as fast as he could.
“Oh my god!” Jennifer cried.
