I wanted to smack Abby for her reaction to Jen telling her she is going away for the weekend with Daniel. Then I wanted to smack Abby again when she told Chad that her mother and Daniel aren't taking it slow "if you know what I mean."
Then Carly's reaction to Daniel saying that he and Jen were going away. Everyone seems to assume that going away for the weekend means this is the first time they will be having sex. How does anyone know they haven't been having sex for weeks???
It really annoyed me. You?

It didn't bother me... I would think Abigail truly knows her Mom wouldn't just jump so quickly into the sack with someone especially someone she just started dating. Even to me it seems too speedy to go away. How about more dates first? To me it showed she really cares about her Mom & doesn't want her to get hurt.
As for Carly she realizes she is losing any chance she may have had with him by Jenn & Dan going away together.

You and I usually think alike jkjpatch, but I've got to say I'm with sportsgirl on this one.Barring the fact that the idea of Jenn and Dr.Sleaze having sex just makes me wanna toss my cookies,I felt that it showed Abby knows who her mom is and wouldn't be going this fast.
I do find though that Carly's feelings for Dan pretty much showed up out of nowhere.I posted a thread a few weeks ago about how I felt things that were happening/have happend are preplanned, and I feel now like this is one of them. With the news of Matt Ashford returning, they have to move Dan and Jenn forward and fast.Jenn doesn't usually take sex lightly so I'm assuming this is happening so Jenn will be genuinely torn.I'm also thinking that Carly's feelings for Dan are showing up now so that when Jack comes back and once again wins Jenn over,Dan won't be alone. He'll have Carly to turn to.Maybe I'm crazy, but it all seems connected to me.Or at least it makes sense....

I don't think it's too soon for Daniel and Jennifer. They have known each other for a while now, even though they only recently started officially dating. Jennifer has been physically separated from Jack for a very long time. Daniel's relationship with Chloe ended much more recently. However, the build to this moment seems reasonable to me.
I thought Abby was too whiny about something that isn't her business and I didn't get the impression she was being protective of her mother. She seemed more self-motivated to me. Although they did end up having a nice conversation and I loved how maturely Jennifer handled the whole thing.

But Jenn's life is Abby's business... She may not be able to say "No you can't do that" but she has a right to question it...I am not sure how long Jack has been gone. It may be a while. Abby & her Mom may also have developed a friendship/mom connection and are open to each other and their feelings.
I still think it's too soon. Jenn was married to the love of her life for a long time and she needs single Jenn time before she jumps into another serious relationship and to me, sex is serious... Date him, have fun but wait until the right moment hits.
eh, I guess I might be a bit old-fashioned!

Date him, have fun but wait until the right moment hits. eh, I guess I might be a bit old-fashioned! But the thing is is that she has been single for a while. The only thing that has really tied her to Jack has been a piece of paper (and boy do I know that feeling). Jack has been out of sight for an extended period of time (not sure how long but it has been awhile) and when you are completely cut off from someone like that then you start to lose the love you have for them. When they neglect thier family, you start to lose respect and in some cases trust for them. Without love, respect, and trust, there's just not much there to hang on to and it's hard to try to find something. Now, I didn't take going away for the weekend to mean that they were going to have sex. Given the last time they were alone together, had Abby not walked in, they probably would have, but everytime before when they have tried to have a date, something has interrupted it. Jennifer has had to have been rushed to the hospital or Daniel has been called back to work. To me this was just a way for them to get to know each other better without the interruptions. Yes, I think they will end up having sex, but I dont' think that they are going away for that purpose alone.

I still agree with sportsgirl but get what everyone else is saying. The thing is though,Alice died last June and when Jenn came back for the funeral, she spoke as if everything was great "Jack still makes me laugh",etc etc.So I'm thinking he left a while after that, which means he hasn't been gone all that long, unless he left right after that (I'm still not buying this walk about thing).
As for why Jenn and Daniel went on this trip.Logically speaking (yeah I know, bad idea to use logic with this show),they have to up the ante at this point with Matt Ashford's impending return.I'm assuming we'll see him either by the end of next month or at the beginning of July.Jenn and Dan I'm sure will be sleeping together for that reason alone. The writers nowadays seem to thrive on stupid triangles (Is this really a triangle if we know the outcome?).Jenn and Dan have to have sex if they want Jenn to be torn between both men.Jenn has always taken sex seriously (ok maybe....),so if she sleeps with Dan,she will have legitimate feelings for him,and therefor won't go back to Jack automatically.Personally,Jack and Jenn never needed a third party to create conflict, they were good at that on their own with both of them having the issues they have.

Normally I would find Abby's somewhat condescending "big girl" talk with her mom pretty annoying, but in this case it didn't bother me too much because I think both Abby and Chad are kind of "old soul" youngsters. Jen lets Abby know when she's crossing the line.
I understand wanting to get away if for no other reason than the fact that EVERYONE in town has something to say about Daniel and Jennifer getting together and they never can get any quiet time together. Since people in Salem only go to Bradys, the Cheatin Heart or Chez Rouge, they would not be able to have a quiet date night. Jennifer is an adult and can sleep with Dr. J if she wants to, and Dr. J always seems like he is looking for some action, so more power to them.

Dating in your 40's is a lot different than in your early 20's I am guessing. If they care about each other and want to have sex I say go for it. At least they have been spending time together and aren't making a hasty decision because they are drunk. Many of the characters in their 20's and 30's jump into bed much more quickly. I wouldn't like it if I felt like Jen was being pushed into it but she seemed eager to go away with Daniel.

@jaysdelina...I don't know about the funeral. People often lie at funerals about their personal lives b/c it's not really the time to say "my husband has been absent/left me". So, she could have been putting on a fascade, like she did when she arrived in Salem this time (telling everyone that life was okay). Even Abby admitted her dad emotionally checked out a long time ago...
I don't think that the timing is off for Jenn/Dan. They've courted, they were friends, and they both have a connection. I can see how Abby would be concerned b/c it is a bit fast, but as fluffy ^^^ says dating is different in your 40s. You're smarter about life, and you know more about the world around you and what it has to offer.
I say if they want to do the horizontal mambo, than by all means, its no one's business.
I also agree that Carly's sudden love for Daniel is off putting.

It's been a while since Jenn has been in the dating mode... I really would have liked a conversation about safe sex, especially if these are supposed to be mature adults....

My only problem with this moving so quickly...40s or not...is that is not the Jennifer I remember. Yes, she was raped, but otherwise she was never in a hurry to rush sex. In fact, it was always something she waited on. I could definitely see Abby and Carley both knowing this as Carley was best friends with Jennifer back then and Abby has probably heard this lecture from her mother many times. I think it is totally out of character for Jennifer and, I honestly believe, that was Abby's whole objection to it. She was the one that pushed Jennifer to file the papers and "move on".

Well, we don't know how long it's been for Jennifer. Maybe it's been years, and the cobwebs need sweeping?
In any case, I agree, Jenn wouldn't rush into anything, but she's also trying to get herself to move past Jack. I think she feels safe with Daniel and wants to move on. This might be her way of doing so for herself.
