I have a hard time picking who I think will leave versus who I want to leave. Hopefully TPTB want most of the same people to leave as we do. Dario...blech. Gabi....zzzzz.

It's a lot easier to pinpoint who I think are most likely to be staying, and while there are no guarantees, I think Nicole, Brady, Rafe, Victor, Maggie, Jennifer, Chad, Abby and Will are all at the top of the safe list. I don't think Roman, Doug, Julie, Caroline, or Abe are on enough for Corday to even remember they are part of the cast or be part of his count for cuts. And since Abe is likely to stay then so is Lexie by default. Then there are the ones that are so new or peripheral I don't even know if they are on contract and even if they are were they significant enough to count as an exit in Corday's mind... those being: Dario, Gabi, Kinsey, Tad, Gus... probably some others so insignificant I forgot them.
So the ones in the middle in my mind are: EJ, Stefano, Justin, Adrienne, Melanie, Daniel, Kate, and Sami. Yes, it is true that I loathe EJ, but in looking at things as objectively as possible, the writing is most definitely on the wall for this character to leave. Unfortunately, that has been true for the past 5 years, yet it remains ... and yet I do think he will be leaving.. I'm just not so sure it will be over in time to count as one of the "before September" exits. Stefano is a distinct possibility simply because it opens so many storyline options, including the J&M return... and as we all know the Pheonix always rises again so if it is Stefano, I see it being a temporary exit. Justin & Adrienne, just because I have a jaded point of view when it comes to TPTB. With J&J back in Salem, it makes perfect sense to have Justin & Adrienne remain, there are lots of options for the foursome to play off one another and add lots of humor and romance to the show (both of which are in short supply currently) ... and because there are so many reasons for them to stay, I think there may be a fair chance that TPTB will stupidly cut them. Melanie and Daniel -because Carly is leaving, because they suck as characters and the actors are not very skilled, they have no legitimate connections to Salem, have been a drain on the show, still require lots of propping from other characters, etc. ... and so of course in my jaded little heart of hearts I expect them to both remain. Kate is one of those character that is forever being rumored as targeted to be cut ... and yet she has remained for nearly 2 decades and still has tremendous story potential and interest as a character, plus she is portrayed by the fabulous Lauren Koslow... so with all that going for her, that jaded part of my psyche is concerned... yet not overly so, and highly unlikely to be part of the "before September" exits. Sami is probably at the very top of everyone else's safe list, but I'm not quite as positive. Although Alison is constantly rumored as being a favorite of Corday's and NBC, that didn't mean anything for Deidre Hall so how much less would it mean for Ali, and the writing for Sami has been awful since at least as far back as 2008 with much damage done to the character .... which is why there is also the possibilty that Ali may be the one who chooses to leave. Since Corday is making waves like the show might be moving in a more positive direction, I think there is less chance of her leaving than I would have said prior to Corday's interview. I definitely don't expect her to be one of the "before September" exits but I'm still throwing it out there as a possible future departure depending on how other things play out on the show.
Two final thoughts, first, what if "6" was just an arbitrary number that Corday pulled out of his butt. He could have just meant more than 3 less than 10 ... I mean it's Corday we're talking about. Little details like the exact accurate number of exits and returns don't seem to be priorities to him. Second, if I were the Executive Producer of Days and objectively looking at the ratings patterns versus airtime for the past few years and what is the best strategy to turning the show around and get it back on solid foundation, EJ, Rafe, and Sami would have been my first 3 cuts. Sami's my girl but business is business and she is not pulling her weight. It's not her fault, no character (or actress) could have fared well with what has been happening to Sami in the past few years, and had I been in Corday's shoes, none of that would have ever happenend and neither EJ nor Rafe (or at least not as portrayed by Galen Gering) would have ever stepped foot in Salem. But I wasn't and it did happen, so the fastest way to fix it now is to cut that trio, IMO (and I doubt it's a popular one).

I don't know if those three will be cut but I am tired of the show revolving around the three of them. I love Sami but she's not the same character since EJ and Rafe came along. There needs to be a better balance of characters. They are on all of the time yet Bo and Hope are hardly seen. If Ali leaves I think it will be by her choice. She is involved with so many other projects in addition to being a mom to two young children. If she leaves at some point I would assume Rafe would leave with her.

If she leaves at some point I would assume Rafe would leave with her. So long as Gary Tomlin has anything to say about it, Rafe isn't going anywhere. Until Corday's recent announcement, I was expecting to see Sami exit with a storyline of going to Hong Kong (Lucas) or Switzerland (J&M). Now, I think she will be staying and I genuinely hope it will be with a return to her former self ... and less airtime. Like I've said before I don't want even my favorite characters with the very best of writing to hog all the airtime - I would still want to see many characters having meaningfuly storyline and good character writing.

^^Kazz, have you heard the rumors about Gary Tomlin being fired also? Nelson Branco supposedly tweeted something about this. (I know, I know, that's like taking what a politician says as gospel : But who knows? Maybe if Tomlin's gone, this show can really build itself back up to it's former glory. As to who else is leaving....I voted Dario and Gabi but that's just because I don't like either of them. Well, maybe I sorta like Gabi but I just don't see much use for her. I have a feeling they'll keep Dario around for Melanie though. And in a way, I almost hope they do, if it means keeping Brady away from Melanie. I do not want Brady getting together with Melanie in that way. It's just gross.

I really don't see EJ going anywhere. They are clearly setting him up to take Stefano's place and it looks to me like they are setting up a battle for the Dimera name between EJ and Chad. I noticed during the fight with Nicole that EJ started smoking a cigar just like Stefano does. I can't, off the top of my head, think of another time that I've seen EJ smoke. Stefano is always carrying one around, even if he's not actually smoking it. (PS. I'm a little surprised that they are actually showing anyone smoking on camera. I thought that was something folks just did't do anymore - unless you're on Mad Men.) Anyway, EJ is, imo, one of the safe ones. He's going to be devastated when Taylor leaves/dies/whatever happens to her, and I see that pushing him totally to the dark side. I know, I know, he only has a dark side. But, imo, he's been waffling (sp?) for a while, especially around Taylor. By September, something is going to happen to make him completely dark and he will rightfully become Stefano.2. I'm actually looking forward to it. I can't wait to see how this all plays out.

If EJ truly becomes Stefano.2 then he needs to get smarter. As it stands right now he doesn't think things all the way through and goes off half cocked. He still lets his emotions run him. His fatha needs to sit down and play more chess with him if he is truly gonna take over as the patriarch of the family.
But at the same time I can see Chad being the new EJ and EJ becoming Tony. I can see how Stefano reveres Chad and that is the same exact thing he did with EJ when he came on the scene. EJ took over Tony's place for Stefano's admiration and I can see Chad doing the same thing to EJ. It is already being shown a little bit with EJ's annoyance with him.

That's what I'm saying!!!! EJ will try to become the new Stefano, but he's too reckless and emotional about everything. I don't know if Chad will jump EJ for the throne, but he already seems to be more levelheaded than EJ. Either way, I'm excited to see this sibling rivalry play out.
